ok guys,

even though we look to be getting short changed with the wind. when is everyone hitting the water.

i'm on the water sunday. can't do saturday. i am feeling pretty cheated with that. forecast now shows 5-10 knots. so if that is true then i am going for distance on the formula kit. so who's got lightwind gear. fitz, borrow something from pete...

anyway, wind may change. this is what the BOM have to say.

Note: The forecasts are based on movement of low currently near Rundle Island.
These forecasts will be closely monitored and updated if the low changes
intensity or expected movement. Caution is advised during the outlook period as
this situation is very difficult to forecast correctly.

can you believe that

If that NW on Saturday actually comes through then I'll have a wave session at Kirra... might strap the GPS on just for grits and shiggles.

Geez the forecast has been all over the place lately hey! Have a look at the predicted surface wind maps (magic seaweed or ask the weather god) and you'll see why.

hard to say haggar.

normally during a westerly at high tide it is very bumpy on the western side of the bank. but at low tide on a westerly it can be flattish there, depends on wind strength.

however. when the tide is high, if the water on the eastern side of the bank is deep enough that is very very flat. it's only 40cm deep in parts too.

wello can be unpredictable. take all the gear you got. i do cause you just never know.

Wello might be the go... is anyone else from SEQ having a sail? You can't stop me from sailing then, I'm going completely insane not being able to really give this NAVI a workout...

I'm most likely going to the bar at Bulcock beach on Saturday morning. Should be cranking from 8am. Looking forward to a couple of hours of B&J on incoming tide. Nothing like seeing the spray flying of the top of the waves on an offshore breeze. I'll also sail down Briby a little and check to see if suitable for speed.

I'll most probably just go to bramble bay / woody point providing it is blowin. I guess it wont matter if we sail apart, we can still use or data if 2 or more us sail Also been checking out some of the mud flats near the Hornibrook bridge, but I have no idea how deep the water is

Haggar,
If it's SW go to Pelican Point - Bells Beach to launch, good beach. Wish I could join you but recovering from another fight with knife wielding surgeon cutting more out of my leg to get rid of skin cancer. May drive down for a look though.

Maximus , I'm right to get out after all. Will head up with wave and mid sized gear and get into that bar. I'll take the Gps and do few runs at Bribie, after seeing what it is like.

i'll be hitting the water tomorrow, not sure where yet, either VP or wello depending on wind direction. a guess would be early morning session at VP but if wind is w or wsw i'll go to wello.

I did 90 k's today, but it doesn't fuggen count because for some stupid reason my NAVI didn't record the track onto the SD card!

I want to hit something. Hard.

Ben,

Have you tried downloading using the Navi software?

You may have some data stored.

OK before anyone else asks YES I did try downloading from the NAVI and there's nothing there.

And when I turn the unit on now it records quite happily. So something's either wiped the card between two hours ago and now, or space aliens came down and swapped my card with a blank one (albeit with a GPS_DATA folder on it).

It's always worked fine before, I seem to remember seeing the "Blank card found" and "New file" dialog boxes popping up when I turned it on this morning, and I definitely have a max of 26.80 knots and 90k's on the trip meter.

So I'm going to chalk it up to space aliens I guess.

I'd still like to hit something

Nebbian, on a lighter note, and obviously its not funny.
But us less fortunate who have a shocking time staying pace with this propellerhead stuff, are quite possibly sitting here smugly thinking. See it happens to the guru's as well, and we don't feel so techanoliged thingamjig challenged any more.

So you cheered us all up in a round about way, thanks cobber

Thinking back to yesterday, and without my crankypants headache face on, I think the sequence of events was something like this:

1) Turn unit on.
2) Try to reset the max speed in the aquapack, but couldn't because the thumb switch was too fiddly (and aquapack too tight)
3) Take unit out of aquapack.
4) Reset max speed
5) Put unit back in aquapack.

*** DANGER Will Robinson! ****

As I was putting it back in, the aquapack pushed the thumb switch up, and possibly in. When the unit was being inserted, all the options were flashing up on the screen.
Possibly what happened was that the unit selected "Format Card" as I was putting the NAVI into the pack.

6) Seal up and go sailing.

The moral of the story is:
1) Reset your max speed at home when you download data.
2) If something weird happens on shore, turn the unit off, then back on. It's better to have two files that you have to stitch together, than no file
