My $300 Garmin watch was purchased in 2017 and has been on my wrist almost 24/7 since. It gets used for running and at least 2 swims a week as well as my less frequent windsurfing. I could walk into a shop today and get a replacement if it failed (as it is well beyond warranty). Still holding 7 days of battery life when not using GPS. Has a screen to give me feedback on my activity and uploads via bluetooth without even touching my phone just by stopping the activity. It even tells the time and my HR plus many other things. Only issue I have had is the little clip that holds the excess band broke (out of warranty). I emailed Garmin and they sent a replacement at no charge.
I am with you great hassle free device, it was put to the GPSTC committee that maybe the website could be updated to allow Garmin for "recreational or non pb tracks", but that was over a year ago and no update so far .. But if I am reading it correctly from previous posts it wont be long before GW60 wont be around .. I have no doubt Julien is making an exceptional product but its a lot of pressure on him to meet demand by the looks.. so maybe it is time that we re visit the issue of other devices for non "pb" days .
Who? There's a huge gap in orders due to the black line era in which I barely took any order. So even January 2020 was the tail-end of the paid queue.
>>>
There's an interesting forest for the tree bias lately; casually excluding all devices that were on time and that work fine every day.
>>>> you should be in the numbers above if your payment was last October like mine.
Just going by this post here Julien, Dezza says she paid for hers in October, I paid for mine in February
And I have no knowledge of all the success stories, I'm only concerned with my own experience.
But I appreciate, all the problems you've had and the great job you're doing, I'm just getting impatient.
Mike I ordered my LCD in Jan 2020 as well, I did get a tracking number back in September for it but that never got lodged at the courier.
I seem to have dropped of the list as well. I still don't have my Mini order complete either. I would have expected he would fulfill his orders before replacing a lost unit.
The GPSTC needs an alternative if the GW60 is now superseded.
You paid mid-July 2021, received one parcel, another is on the way and the last parcel is scheduled for next week.
This is getting silly.

This is really the wrong thread for this comment. ![]()
The reasons for the delay have been mentioned elsewhere. But basically, the web programmer (owner and volunteer keep in mind) has just had zero time available to put into such a Major job. Arrangements have been made to solve that issue, but it is not the highest priority on the list of changes and fixes, and could still possibly be many months or more from action if the GPSTC decide it is still desirable.
Back on topic, I just received half of an order of Mini Motions that was ordered early in 2021 and I understand the other half are in Transit now. The serial numbers are in the 350's range and I would guess, the majority of those have come to Australia. There are a LOT of Motion Loggers in use here now, they are extremely easy to use and extremely accurate.
I also just received two LCD Motions, one of which was in the backorder queue from around two years ago when the original screens became unobtainable and stopped production dead for well over a year! The other was ordered in October 2020. The queue and timeline can only get shorter as his order queue catchup progresses.
A few Mini's are available locally right now! ![]()
Yes Vosadrian Garmin do make great watches. They employ 16,000 people, but not one of those employees is able to program any of their products to the required standard for high speed windsurfing. So the comparison to the Motion is meaningless.
I am sure that everyone here agrees that Garmin have the resources to make a unit for speed sailing. But with <1000 units a year, they would not even bother discussing the possibility of doing it. So instead you get companies/individuals who are interested in doing low volume..... and you end up where you are..... quality problems, production caps, logistics issues etc. I was just pointing out that you can get away from those issues in accepting a device without "accuracy" data. Some may not find the accuracy as important as the support.

Lets be honest here. There is no intention to make this change by the GPSTC. There is no need for any change to be made to the way the website works... it is simply a change in the rules. A couple years ago the GPSTC accepted sessions from devices without doppler or accuracy data. I was using a Garmin Gecko as a legacy device and was within the rules posting with that device. The rules changed to not accept sessions from that device.... but the way the website works did not. Those rules could be changed again to revert that and add other devices with no effort. The GPSTC saw that the popular opinion on this forum was against what they wanted so they made a non-committed promise to get rid of the dissent on here since they could not control it. It is no surpise that nothing has been done.
Accuracy data and accuracy. If you don't care for these, you're in luck because there's hundreds of devices to choose from indeed. I make devices for the few who need these two. And if it's not for you, then who cares, carry on.
Also, "if you don't want to wait for the device of this one guy on his first two products, you might make do with the products of this billion dollar revenue multinational established 30 years ago" might not be the dig you think it is. There's 400 Mini in use today and 3 have been replaced. If it wasn't for the LCD black line issue, regulars would have a tiny amount of replacements too. And I wouldn't have lost a whole year searching for the issue and its replacement. It is what it is.
"Quality problems".. I think not! Not with my two Motions, or in fact with any of the many used by friends. This comment could only come from from someone who does not own one.
This is entirely off topic, sorry guys, but I need to answer this bit of misinformation.

OK totally honest there is intent and a good start has been made on modifying the data base!
There is no need for any change to be made to the way the website works... it is simply a change in the rules.
well it could be done that way obviously, BUT that would mean mixing unverifiable data with verifiable data in the data base. Yes there's that old legacy stuff already in there, but that can be separated chronologically. We do not want to stuff that up by adding more dubious stuff now
It is no surpise that nothing has been done.
The delay is a pain, I have to agree, but every body underestimated how much work was required and how little spare time the web writer had. As mentioned the project is in the process of being handed over to someone with more time on their hands. So all I can ask is be patient, I know it's not easy, I lost mine a bit further back in this thread.
......something irrelevant to this topic....
Wrong, wrong and wrong! Again. This is the WRONG thread for this discussion. Start a new one if you want to continue the topic.

So a year or so out of a population of 2 proves a lot!! :-)
No one user who owns a couple of units can comment on the quality of the entire population. There a few people out there who probably think the GW-60 is a quality device.
There is a version of this device (LCD) that has significant problems. The fact is that large companies like Garmin spend a lot more resources on validating component suppliers and testing samples and performing regorous verification and validation. Even then, they have returns, but it would be a tiny percentage, and you would get a replacement in a very quick turn around.
I'm not knocking Julien in what he is doing. I've done similar with some automotive products. I've been in his position. But to have a device with the limitations of a one man operation supplying the only device that can reasonably be obtained for use in the GPSTC is not sustainable. I'm sure that a Motion device is a great product for a high degree of accuracy in GPS. But when people can't easily get them, there has to be other options for those who care less about what the Motion is good at and just want something they can get and use easily and get a replacement quickly if it stops working. Thats not even mentioning the obvious here.... if Julien gets sick of making these, what is the backup plan?

This is oh.... so..... easy!! There is a field when you upload where you can select if the data is doppler. Verifiable data selects doppler. Non-verificable selects track points.
Adrian!
the worlds best speed sailors are now using the Motion and so are a lot of us recreational GPSTC windsurfers. It's only the LCD motions which have been in short supply. The mini motion is available to order,, also there's gpstc garmin app developed by by one of the sailors here to use with the mini. They work really well which is why the demand is great. Just get a mini to use with the Garmin and post to gpstc, I have one spare on its way if you'd like one.

Seriously buddy, you sure are pushing your barrow uphill here. There are hundreds of sailors worldwide using Motions and singing their praises, not just on the Seabreeze forum, but on many others. Even Bloodhound LSR (I had to Google it) are apparently happily using Motion Devices. Not bad for a one-man operation like Julien! I get that you like your Garmin, I wear one too, but in my own tests of wearing multiple devices I find the Garmin great, but not always agreeing with the other devices. My Garmin can often be in non-agreement by up to 1knot; for me personally, too far off to be accurate to my personal satisfaction.
I have continually read your opinions here over many months; I have to admire you for being resolute in your crusade.
Maybe you should simply set up a new and alternative platform for the sharing of gps speed sailing data, one that recognises Garmin, Cronis, Canmore, Timex etc. while waiting for GPSTC to modify its platform. If this would satisfy your frustrations, go for it. I am sure you will have a following.
Cheers .
Just saw on Motion website- an updated Mini firmware-3037. My old firmware was 3020.
just updated. Sooooo easy.![]()
Hi Julien, it's been a while since I've been in contact. Exhausting catching up on all the posts since I last looked (glad you've got your mojo back as there's been some pretty bad press - you must have very thick skin!). I'm still "patiently" waiting on my order for 3 x LCD's to Aus (Perth) so would be great if I could get an update from you. Very happy with the mini I received as part of my first partial batch a year or so ago and it hasn't missed a beat.
Cheers
Dan
Motion tracking numbers, just put them up here. Share with everyone. How hard can it be.
Does anyone have a tracking number to australia with the motion screen that they have been told is on its way of late.
Please share,???
What's in the new firmware 3037, what is the difference, what is changed, what??. Julien?
I still can't read @ on the water.
Three were delivered last week.
Some tracking numbers ,JulienLe ,no body has lost faith in your devices but your "its on its way" is getting old.
Julien can't publish tracking numbers as it would give out personal data, names and addresses etc, I think the schedule he gave here on 9th November still holds.

If I don't email about it, it's small bugfixes.
The next big one is January 2022 with A500, GPX downconverter for Strava users (and the likes), time/alarm for racers, custom pages and the following big one will be around April 2022 with connection to your home WiFi, maps and something new.
There's 10 parcels on the way now, I'll add 6 during this week and 4 next week.
Some cool pictures from Prince Of Speed, Luderitz, Defi, Goyard's foiling 40kn training, Albeau's Zephyr training lately. It's been a long desert walk before that. =)
