It's irrelevant. But if software/competitions want to populate the HDOP field, I'll gladly provide the proper HDOP field.

- Notice how it bottoms out at 18 satellites used. ;) ;)

Actually, it does not "bottom out". All accuracy measures keep improving after 18 satellites. This trend continues to into the high 20s.

- Filtering by C/N0 had a short lifespan in Motions. It was overall a bad idea. Not recommending it to anyone.

But the Motion still is limiting the number of satellites tracked, correct? Which means that the GPS either throws out extra satellites randomly (which would be bad), or ranked by a measure that's most likely CNO. The only drawback of a fixed CNO requirement is that the number of satellites can drop low if the reception is poor. The graphs above actually show an example of that.

- Cold stationary tests are always a bad idea. The dynamic filter needs movement to sort itself out.

This was not a "cold" test. And re-iterating that stationary tests are a "bad idea" does not make it true. As Tom Chalko pointed out many years ago, the idea of "stationary" is an nonsense, given that GPS satellites move at more than 7500 knots relative to earth. The only issue that needs to be taken into account is the effect of speed directionality.

As for dynamic filters, those were quite heavily used by Locosys, especially by the GT-31. They distorted the alpha numbers quite a bit, and the "zero speed" filter that is still present in the GW-60 still creates errors at the start of runs. Only two dynamic filters that are apparent in the u-blox data: 1. the sAcc filters, which slows down the increase of sAcc numbers to make sAcc almost useless (sAcc usually exceeds thresholds only when the min. satellite filter is also triggered); and 2. the "extrapolate when reception is lost" filter, which can keep speed at pre-crash levels for several seconds after a crash, instead of letting it drop to zero. Those filters make some sense for GPS use in cars, but they are only detrimental for speedsurfing.

- Anyway, it's HDOP they want. So it's HDOP they'll get if everyone is cool with it.

The guy who asked the question appears to be somehow associate with a GPS watch maker, not with the GPSTC or any speed competitions. On the software side of things, HDOP filters are relics from pre-GT-31 times. With the current default setting of 5.0 in GPSResults, they are virtually never triggered when a GPS has reception of 5 satellites (the minimum for GPSTC postings).

If you want to spend your time modifying the Motion firmware to store HDOP values instead of PDOP values, because GPSResults uses the PDOP values from Motion files in the column labeled "HDOP", nobody can stop you, but don't claim that GPSTC or any analysis software would see any benefit from this.

Never made that claim. Reported HDOP is wrong and we'll correct it.

It's a trap for young players so I'll insist: GNSS integrated receivers are iterative. They build on previous context. If you place your device on a table, start it, walk away, stop it and then check its log, you've restricted it from precious context and the opportunity to refine itself.

UPS salesperson took responsibility for the mistake and offered to refund the difference but the contract won't change.

I'm fed up with express shipping invoices tallying surcharges on previous quotes to the point where parcels are approximately twice as expensive than expected.

So I'm sending a tester parcel to Australia today with one device. When it makes its way out of Europe, all the others will follow suit. I have them all done or one stage before done. Some of you may remember that one time I sent 12 devices and they were blocked at an airport for a month before coming back home. I want to avoid that.

Tracking went from "at the airport, waiting for a flight" to "arrived in Australia" suddenly. Then I was worried about the time it would spend in customs but it was delivered overnight by Auspost. I need to ask the recipient how it went on his side but on mine it was great.

All pending paid australian orders leave next week.

This is going to change the optimal order sizes as I can only send 4 devices maximum per shipment but with LCDs coming back, I expect less big orders of Minis anyway.

All five shipments now show this:

It's the weekend so of course I won't know why until Monday. Or Tuesday when they show up here. I hope the full reason for refusal was written on the returning parcels.

I sent them exactly like the two test shipments. And I'm sure I respected the rules.

There's 15 devices in these. Ugh.

Checked UPS again but once all the fancy surcharges are applied, I'm looking at 105AUD/parcel to Richard or Andrew for example. And that's for 4 devices maximum.

FedEx prices are similar now they merged with TNT and took over deliveries/pickups from third-party last-miles drivers.

Julien, have you tried skynet.nl, I have items delivered by them from NL no issues, comes to Aus then Toll takes over. Don't know how they compare to your cost for shipping.

I think you need to just pass on the cost of fedx or UPS to buyers and move forward

Budget freight on this hard to get, hard to make item just does not make sense

Freight has to be paid by the customer if they want it

The frustration of delays, possible missing in post and damage is not worth the savings

I suggest you update your pricing to reflect what it costs to send it with top class carriers

Yes I agree, freight and production costs have gone up, a new GW60 looks to be A$450 now, I would rather pay more freight and get a LCD motion.

I think most of your current orders waiting in Australia would accept the increased freight cost Julien, it's still better value than the gw60. I will cover the extra freight $ for my group order if you can find a more reliable courier arrangement

Yep, me as well. I paid ages ago for the early model, I'm sure costs have increased since then. So I'm more than happy to cover extra costs.

Quick reply just to say the parcels are here, undamaged, unopened. The document pouches weren't opened either so I guess it's not a customs document/invoice issue. The depot that rejected them is very local so I guess they didn't x-ray them and it isn't a battery issue.

There was no explanation on the parcel, no sticker, nothing. So I'll wait for an answer from the depot. Initial support thinks it's just a mistake from that depot. Weird that it happened to all five shipments tho.

Worst case scenario, I got a few other leads going. But the first two testing parcels here went great. They took a week to Australia then were delivered the next day by AusPost. And that service has plenty of advantages to me. Overall.

I hope I'll have some news tomorrow. Once these are done, replacements will be over and that's a party on its own.

Hello, 2am wednesday, was searching for a bug, realized I was going to fall asleep at the desk, took 4 steps, fell like a rock and twisted my ankle. I haven't done anything since.

Skynet was a great lead but their route to Australia passes by England so they ask an extra customs handling charge per parcel which basically doubles prices.

PostNL refunded all the parcels and said it was their mistake, parcels shouldn't have been returned, and to try again. So I'll try two Monday. When these two reach Amsterdam's airport, they all go.

I'd really like for it to work because on the european side through that intermediary, handled by DPD, it's working really well. They deliver twice at home then to a local relay, they deliver saturday, in pretty much the same time as express companies and prices don't come with surprise charges. The first two test parcels to Australia were also very satisfactory. Crossed fingers.

I was made aware two days ago that I still had one device to replace in the Netherlands. I thought I was done. So if you are in Europe and waiting for a replacement and I haven't been in touch recently, please email me.

All LCDs to Australia are ready, Minis for the combined orders are ready, and I'll have the lone Mini orders done during the week.

Hello,

> What is the current status

They seem to work fine.

> Have you got past the component supply issues now?

Kinda. I'm hitting every component I can find. I got enough to do 40 more now, with enough to do 100 on the way and enough to do 200 just ordered. On the other hand, samples for the casings from a new manufacturer are only arriving in 2 weeks so there might be disturbance there.

> Are you taking new orders ?

No, only orders from the queue.

> Are you still behind with production on new orders?

Yes, I have 3 left to replace in Europe, 2 in the US and 12 pending shipment to Oceania.

> Derryn

There's 8 parcels on the way to Australia + 2 to NZ now, 2 have reached Australia friday. Mostly Minis as I'd rather lose and redo these than LCDs. But all orders with LCDs have started shipping too. I'm sending you an email now.

Yes, if you haven't received a tracking code yet, it hasn't shipped.

I have 13 parcels to Oceania at risk right now already. I'll add 4 more parcels Tuesday or Wednesday containing 15 Minis and 1 LCD.

Once these 13 parcels start hitting Australia, I'll send 2x 3 LCD, 3x 2 LCD and 2x4 LCD to end it all.

If I lose 4 Mini, it ain't the end of the world. If I lose 4 LCD, it's hell.

Well, everything was coming along nicely. New chips, new screens, new batteries, new antennas coming in, new casings nearly signed. Friday evening, I got an email that wireless charging parts backordered in July were rescheduled from October to June. So now I got everything in or coming, except those obviously very important parts. And as I searched for ideas during the weekend, it isn't looking great.

This train ain't rolling yet. :(

I'll reply to emails/mps tomorrow monday.
