Any advice appreciated.

No numbers at it looks like my Motion is having issues. Got green lights when I started but nothing when I went to shut it down. Have had it on charge for an hour & the 3 second press is not giving any lights whatsoever. Also tried 2 quick presses after each long press to see if it appears as an option to connect via WiFi but nothing. I did have a couple of shutdowns after about 15 minutes in mid November when I was wearing it in the pack with the GW 52 but had no issues since I started wearing it on my arm until now. Updated the firmware in the last couple of weeks. Would be the 1 year anniversary of my 1st motion post tomorrow
I got an identical claim a few days ago. Maybe it's corruption moving from one specific firmware to another, maybe it's the configuration hanging and not proceding further. I'm on it.
Thanks Julien.
I have sent a reply to your email.
PS Julien responded very quickly to my query.
Much better than dealing with Qantas or Telstra!
Firmware #3049 is out with:
- the return of "10Hz on GPS + Glonass + Galileo + SBAS",
- the return of night mode (press the top + bottom left buttons together),
- a big improvement in energy retention when the device is off,
- a 1Hz GPX downconverter for users of Strava and the likes, don't use this for speed competitions,
- added a 2min delay between inactivity trigger and the switch to low power mode,
- a few bugfixes.
This is the first recommended upgrade. The upgrade tutorials are here:
Wireless LCD: motion-gps.com/motion/documentation/firmware-update-wifi.html
Wireless Mini: motion-gps.com/motion/documentation/first-start-wireless-mini.html

Hi Julien,
Had a quick look at the firmware upgrade tutorial for the wireless LCD and noticed that you say
"Click on the wireless signal icon in the lower right of your Windows desktop. Then select the Motion WiFi network and connect to it."
Do you have to upgrade the firmware on a windows based computer or can the firmware also be upgraded using a Mac?
You can do it from any computer/smartphone that has WiFi and a web browser. I'll change that, thanks.
Also noticed an error in my post above, the Mini firmware upgrade is described here:
motion-gps.com/motion/documentation/firmware-update-wifi-mini.html
Upgrades apply to both LCD/Mini, it's the same core.
I'm adding custom pages now and I'd like to prepare what I'll do software-wise next week.
Is there any data you would like to see added to the log page? Except A500, it's coming. Stuff like acceleration, heading, whatever.
Some indicator of the accuracy of the entire session.
So a single number which in basic terms would be the average of all the errors across the session.
This would be a simple way for people to compare the error when wearing the device in different positions as well as comparing against multiple devices and friends devices used at the same time.
Dezza > that's in the data above what was previously screenshotted. I edited my message to include a longer screenshot. I was more thinking about data to add in the chart or map. Stuff that users currently check on desktop software. I don't know. Fishing for ideas.
tbwonder > I'm considering something similar. I need to think about it a little longer.

Can you setup the pages you developed for me a year or two ago for my first LCD unit? I can resend the templates if you want.

Can you include 100m and 250m? much more useful than 10 sec.
Also, although useful, rarely 1hour is used, no much need to have it in the main screen. I mean 2sec, 100,250, 500 and A500 are the most useful IMO for the main screen.
Also in the device 100m and 250m are missing.. Just my personal preference, never used time but fixed distance.

The time and distance categories currently shown are those used by the GPS-Teamchallage competition and the GPS_Speedsurfing rankings. the vast majority of the users of these devices use them for participation in those. 10 sec has been the main standard measure of GPS speed runs since 2004. I'm quite surprised you don't know that? ![]()
Yes 250m would be good if it's possible, the metric used in Dunkerbecks gps speed challenge the last couple of years, it's running again for 2022 so it would be great if we could have that, even if an option on customisable screens.

Well, It seems it is very diferent around the globe. I`m in europe and many challenges are on a fixed distance, and also your personal references may differ. Me and my friends never consider 10sec. Best option to have them customizable as in motion1.
Julien, is it possible to adapt the firmware for the Mini Motion so that a user can check their stats mid way through a session without having to start a new log?
(Others: yes I understand that the 2 logs can be joined together again later in a different application, but I want to avoid having to do that)
Apologies if this has been covered previously

Hey stretchy buy a Coros watch, gives you all you want as well as NM, Hr Average, and, very comparable stats to Australian approved devices ????????(gone fishing)
I'm pretty sure Stretchy already has a Garmin watch so can already see all the GPSTC categories in real time.
It would be nice if the Mini Motion could send the Category results in real time to the Garmin.

+1 for that.
Hi Boz, TBW
I had a Garmin, which was great until it it died. Then I was lucky enough to be given an Apple Watch for a birthday present, so I really can't get another Garmin or a Coros or I risk offending family
. The Apple is ok, but defo not my preference for on water feedback. I'd like to be able to check what the Mini is reading during a break.
Put some pressure on pasey, he was talking about writing an apple watch app.
John340 > customs: done.
veton, Dezza > 100m, 250m in live results and customs: done. On the site: mid-January.
Stretchy > one log per day: done.
tbwonder > it seems this would require the next Mini version to add a chip with ANT+ licensing. So I toured the market and once crazy-complex/expensive chips, unavailable chips, EOL and NRND chips, back in stock in 2023 chips are filtered, I'm left with 1 option. I ordered the devkit.

Thanks mate, thought that I'd be able to use my Mac but wanted to check
tbwonder > it would cost 1600+USD/year in licensing fees + 7USD/device to add Garmin/ANT+ support. That's without development costs and cost of my work. www.thisisant.com/assets/Licensing_-Full_Process_-_REV201906010_1.pdf
Not cheap. But potentially affordable if you have a lot of people using it.
I think there are other methods of connecting, possibly via bluetooth or wifi, I vaguely remember seeing a web connection example in the Garmin SDK examples.
I imagine Ant+ would be the most stable connection though.
Speed talk and last run announcement like in GPS-Logit Phone app. Maybe via BT to a speaker in/on the helmet?

Interesting for Cycling! ![]()
I can think of a whole raft of reason why they would not be practical for windsurfing. ![]()
I think the audio feed back is more useful, and safer - as it allows me to concentrate my vision of where I am going so I have less chance of crashing. ![]()
And I little waterproof BT speaker accessory could be considerably less costly?
