Hey guys, I arrived on Sydney 2 months ago and Im living in the city/central. I've been kiting for 7 years now, and I brought only my 8mt kite (f-one bandit4).
When does the wind pick up (month/season)? Where are there some nice beaches to kite close to the city? Do I need a certain certification?

Thank you!

You won't need any certification, though bring plenty of common sense.

Wind wise we should see the arrival of NE winds very soon, starting with the odd seabreeze then hitting its peak in the summer months.

There's a map getting around by NSW kiteboarding association that shows locations and guides you thru them, google or search the forums should bring it up.

Kited today 25/9 but geez , you had to be quick.

NE was in at midday (12kts) but by 1.30 (18kts) wind was north in the "North Illawarra".

After so long, the feeling of being on the water was intoxicating....

Hey Tony. I got out at easties at about 2.30. Only got about an hour before it went north and dropped. No swell around though only knee high waves. Still, was stoked to get in the water.

Hey Gus, must of missed you by a whisker... was at easty's earlier but it was not much better. Had 20 minutes lit, but nearly got stranded about 400 meters out when it all went pear shaped. Went to beer o clock after... getting desperate for some waves... faaarrrk!!!!!

I flew from Albion Park to Moruya at 1,000 and return a few days ago.

Heaps of perfect set up's at the mo.

Gunna go back and check a spot or 3 on the next NE/+swell, will be unbelievable.

Jerry's spot at the moment could be ok for the flat (gay) freaks....

Anyone get the bit of wind today?? Got out a Gerroa for a sail for about an hour before it dropped a bit and jumped on the kite for about an hour. Kept dropping off through the arvo. Got some nice little waves.

Hey Gus,

Had Easty's for 2 hours, basically to myself.

Still no waves, a couple of 1 or 2 footers but was fun.

Did you see the Bellambi wind chart ???

Hey Tony.

Yeah it came in early at easties so I thought it would be cranking at gerroa. I had to go down there to get some gear anyway do thought I'd take my windsurfing gear. It was only light but surprisingly was picking up the little bit of swell. There was some nice little waves.

Kited Shoalhaven Heads river mouth today with Dave. Started out at 13 knots and finished up 2.5 hrs later at around 17 knots.Wind was NE and fairly X on .Tide was coming in and current helped a lot when wind was marginal. No down the line waves ,a few decent ones riding upwind.Wind gets quite gusty inside the mouth because of sand dunes and all the bitu bush that's gone rampant over the years.Great for boosting .I think the waves would be cleaner on outgoing tide. Will definately go back .

Matt, from what I saw at 1,000' a week ago, the mouth is silting up and ??? at some point about to fill in.

Sure the local guys might give you current news.!!!!

Noticed some set up's south that looked GREAT. Combo of wind/waves, keen to explore...

A few locals were kiting up at the surf club, the beach up there is only about 15 m wide not much room to launch now .It seems that all that sand is working its way into the river which is about 20 m across at the moment. It would prob stay open for this summer but very unlikely to be open next summer.

There's a massive sandbank that's exposed at low tide on the inside of the mouth so windsurfing on high tide should still be ok
Yeh I'll prob be down there weekend also
