Well i am in exmouth at the moment and cant wait to see far less eastern states plates as they go back home to their promised land. Us born and bred traumatised sand gropers are getting a slight taste of having to many rats in a cage. You can have it all bro.
I would have thought all the travellers would have left long before now. How come they are still there?

I guess there are many that know stuff that you don't.

I've only heard good things about Men's Shed.

I think Eppo doesn't realise that there are still a few people running around with plates from their original state. i have 2 cars here with nsw plates. i have seen a few vic plates, a few qld plates, and the odd nt or even tassie plates.
I swear that around one of the lockdown periods I had some kids freak out at my nsw plates... yeah, right guys, I just drove from nsw to wa in a lockdown and brought covid with me... uh huh. Clearly they didn't realise the hoops you had to jump through to get back into wa from nsw.
I changed one car over to wa rego during lockdown and even the DoT woman said that most people don't bother.

So funny, people in WA, just shuddering under their covers, pretending they are are not next.
A most unfortunate side affect of virus's is the culture of blame and division.
Guys.... it's coming!!!

Despite what others have said, I don't think WA/Perth has population density as high as Melbourne or Sydney. This will help. I haven't seen anything in Perth yet even close to the crap traffic and huge number of people that you see in some suburbs of Sydney. I think this means that things will spread a bit slower and it will be a bit more resistant.
Sure, they all don't live on farms, but I find the traffic here a breeze, even the crap traffic.

I made my point. And now it is you that is sniping. fancy picking on the blokes at my shed. Flog.

Errr, that thing about shuddering under the covers. . . nah. . . We're free. I know who's covers are shuddering. . . shuddering. . . Shuffling. . .
As I understand, the W.A. Transport department still require you to change to local rego after 3 months,
But - I see an awful lot of fleet, hire, and commercial and industrial trailers, trucks, vans and cars with foreign plates around the Perth metro area

Yeah, the way I read it it was something like 3 months after you have become a resident or words to that effect. I guess that's open to interpretation if its still a short term. The woman at the DoT was saying that I probably would have been fine until I got pulled over by the cops and its not that common. The actual wording in the legislation is a bit difficult for me to understand. It says something like 'it is not a defence if the vehicle is registered in another jurisdiction'. What that actually means in practice?
I think its a bit weird over here in that WA seems to be the only state that are so restrictive on out of state registration. I have read that if you buy a car from another state and then the minute you drive into WA its effectively unregistered. I don't think any other state has such a rule.

Yes, I reckon that will help alot, Perth is a tiny town. And there are bugger all people in the state which makes social distancing easier.
Yes contrary to popular belief COVID did come here. Just didn't spreadlike wild fire as we did the right things and were very lucky with not having the population density. I mean like my city didn't even have one case of COVID and Bunnings still has one way entry and exit, etc to spread people out, sanitiser everywhere. Still.
I think much of the Syd / Melb issue is high density public housing. A lot of those residents won't comply with any rules, and are all stuffed in like sardines in hi rise.

Bunnings having separated entry and exit is a good thing right? My local Bunnings stopped it for a while there after the initial lockdown, and then re-instated it again later. I was a bit annoyed they stopped it as its something to prevent the spread, which is equally effective before you get huge numbers of cases, and it conditions people to just keep doing it.
I am a bit disappointed that a lot of people don't login using QR codes as we need to do this before/in-case there is an outbreak as afterwards does not help anywhere near as much.
I am not sure about the public housing, but in general Sydney has higher density. My local shopping centre there was full almost all the time, whereas the ones in Perth never seem to be quite as full.
Some people here in WA think we don't have it because 'we are better' at following directions. Its nonsense, there is a certain element of luck and a lot of isolation.

It's not just public housing. The transformation of the ex-industrial areas around Zetland and Waterloo is amazing. What was a working class single-storey industrial area 30 years ago is now continuous multi-storey apartment blocks 4 to 8 stories high with the occasional 30 story block. Most of it has been built in the last 10 years and none of it is cheap to buy or rent. Even a couple of years ago a one-bedroom flat in those towers would cost you $600-$800,000 and you'd have about $100 a week to pay into corporate fees.
And the traffic in the area is insane. Forget about cycles being faster. Even walking is.

and I think the rest of them just don't care.
I have met a few people that moved from Perth to Sydney over the years, and at least one of them moved back.
Since I moved to Perth I have met quite a few people from Sydney that have moved to Perth and stayed.
Clearly its not all things to all people, but its a pretty good place if you are sick of the crazy hectic parts of other capitals.

What prompted your move to Perth: did you get a once-in-a-lifetime fulltime job at seabreeze, commenting on every thread trying to keep the tens of thousands of readers entertained?

Nah, I did that job from Sydney. It didn't work out so well. The 3 hour commute made it hard work.
It turns out that for the cost of housing in Perth, I could sell up in Sydney, buy a few kites and take a little time off work, and still have a better lifestyle.
Shhh... don't tell anyone, otherwise the place will become packed.
(tens of thousands... you really believe that?)
Agreed population density and geographical isolation are main things that have kept WA relatively open. I also agree that the delta strain will be here and sooner than some think and to add this strain may nullify the two key ingredients that kept it under wraps here.
that being said . in my small circle on friends and family id say 95 percent of them are double vacced. And 4 percent of them are booked in. 1 percent (2) just dont want it
and we are the nanny state. You think your lockdowns may have been draconian, we will top it for sure. there is a fcking rule for EVERYTHING here.
WA the Rolf Harris State
Rolf was jabbing 14 to 16 years olds long before
Any other pharmaceutical company
When WA opens up I think you can expect a lot of East Coast arrivals. Plenty of people are locked down in the cities, they have time on their hands, and are re evaluating what's important.
I remember Perth felt as though it was overly policed. Police are less visible in other states.

Overly policed with rules. The cops aint visible, it's all speed revenue raising cameras.

Don't you remember the delta WAS in Perth?
The super-mega-ultra contagious strain was there at least twice.
It was carried around to multiple locations by food delivery drivers who lived in shared households.
Yet for all the 'catch it by just hearing about it' virility of the delta strain, it didn't spread...
Oh good, the virus is leaking into this thread again.
I think its the Kappa strain.
Meanwhile Morrison is trying to open Aus up to International arrivals. Its not like we have lockdowns and outbreaks happening right now!
Its only my personal opinion, but if given the choice, I am happy not being locked down instead of being able to go overseas.

I think everyone thinks that their state has too many rules. I think they are almost all the same.
Any particular rules that you think other states don't have?
Maybe rules on not hassling Quokkas?
As for police, they are rare to see on the roads. In the CBD they are there but that's because of the problems there. Elsewhere, I haven't seen too many of them and the way people drive suggests that other than speed cameras, no one cares.

Luck?
