GPS Display Maximum Speed: 19.7 knots

Conditions: 5 to 10 kts SSW

Equipment: StarBoard F161,

Sail: NP RS5 11.6m

Self: Age 354, 94kg, 183cm, 2 years exp (this decade)

Comments: It was a little bit light !!!!!!. Better pumping technique would have made it a better afternoon on the water.. If anyone has any tips, dont hesitate to send them on. 2-3 more knots would have made a big difference in the number of runs I got in, but probably not too much more speed in it.

Comments: This is my PB, hope you all don't mind me posting it so long after it happened, I just started looking at this part of the forum. I did it on the speed strip at Walvis Bay, Namibia, when I was there for work last year. Even by local standards it was one of the windiest days of the year.

Sail: 7.0 Aerotech VMG

Comments: Was quite excited to strap the GPS onto my arm for the first time ever. The wind was a bit light at the start but then picked up nicely for a couple of good runs. Had to bear well away from the sandbank to get the speed, so there was a fair bit of chop when fully wound up. Tried a 31cm fin as well, but it wasn't as fast.
Don't know why there's so much fuss about the 30 knot figure

GPS Display Maximum Speed: 28.3

Conditions: Up to 20 I think

Equipment: Kinetic Gladiator 100L with standard fin

Sail: 05 Ezzy 6.6 Infinity

Self: Age 52, 85kg, 185cm, 15 years exp

Comments: First go with the Navi, was really hoping for a 30
Wind was 14 on the beach, and better further out, water was rough. Got a Nm average of 23.8, was happy with that considering it was a fair way off shore. We ended up about 2 Nm out chasing the wind, and about 3 Nm along the coast. Going by the Navi, I did 42 Ml, but I think a 6 Km trip to work is included, not sure.

Thanks Gestalt. I'm looking forward to checking out the Funnel with you on Saturday...

Hey Firie, we both popped our cherry on the same day Awesome feeling, hey! Have you set your NAVI up to bleep at 30 knots? I did that to mine, and it bleeps slowly at 25, then faster and faster until it's like a heart machine at 30.
Also I noticed my sail plays a tune, it starts whistling middle-C at 26 knots, then C# at 28, then D at 30. It has very well defined notes, it doesn't just rise in pitch but steps up like a piano. Easy to know what speed you're doing without checking the GPS. Weird hey!

Hi neb's,
Gota say it was exciting getting the Navi in thye mail
Yep set it for 30, but never heard a thing, bugger.
I get a high pitch whistling too, but I think it's my boom, my mates can hear me comming. It also waits till I have some good speed up, funny thing is the note is constant once it starts, but changes to a higher pitch when launching of chop going downwind Makes me laugh
Raining at the moment, hope it clears by tomorrow, otherwise it'll bugger the wind on the coast.

Goodnight

Sounds like your fins whistle - common with the select range and some north shore. Makes you sound like the jetsons hovercar (80's cartoon for the young ones). The faster you go the louder and sometimes more annoying it can get.

As far as I've read It's not really detrimental to your speed and has the added benefit of letting everybody know it's time to get out the way Ben's on a run

HaHa, no, I assumed Elmo was referring to Ben, i.e. Bender.

There was a guy at the last Cervantes speed run, going very fast too, who was kitted out with a Porsche Cayenne, KA Koncept, F2 Missile and Select whistling fin. Some people have all the toys.
I was trying to (not very subtly) determine if he was one and the same.
