Self: Age nearly 47, 88kg, 180cm, 23 years exp
Comments: 35.5 is a PB, so I gotta be happy with that, by the time I sorted the best trim with Elmo's help. wind started to drop right out. Did quite a few mid 30's runs, starting to get used to it, felt I could 've handle a few more knots and wind so all good.

Comments:Still coming to grips with the 94L JP slalom II, first time of firing it up in anger
, took a bit of playing with settings till I found a good balance, shame it was toward the end of the session. had to go really deep into the run, which meant right into the shallows, was a bit nerve racking on a couplke of cavitations. Can't be anything but happy though. The Hardie was pushing hard and had the wood on us till second last run, great battle chasing each other![]()

Comments: Great session, bit more southerly, the run was brilliant although getting a bit shallow in places due to the angle. Didn't need tearing my big toe nail on the second run.

Keep an eye out for the Sandy Point boys tomorrow. Looks like it could be a good one with Windguru talking 25+ WSW which pretty much always means speeds over 40 knots.

Changed to 127L F2 Stoke with same sail (didnt fancy a dusk swim back)as wind dropped and got 28.1 but very bumpy ride. (makes my gut wobble) - My 11 old son got a PB of 20 knots on a 66 litre Acid with a 3.5 Tush DINO.

Location: Botany Bay
Equipment: Fanatic Ultra Hawk, 6.0 Sailworks SX race sail, 32cm fin
Details about Self: 39, 185cm, 75kg, 25 years
Comments: I got to the Bay early and was out by myself for about 2 1/2 hours. Was ready to call it a day with a 30.3 then Steve rocks up and tells me about ANOTHER speed run in a different spot to where I'd been sailing all morning. With the tide dropping and the 'spot' starting to become visible I wish I'd arrived 2 hours later than I had. As it was, when I got back out my forearms were knackered and I couldn't hold on to save my life. I increased my max speed to 30.5 but that was all I had in me. I was now overpowered and not enjoying things so I called it a day. I'm confident of breaking my PB at this spot now I know where and when I should be sailing it.

GPS Display Maximum Speed:Estimated 30 knots
Conditions:25-30 knots wind. Chop 5-10cm.
Location:Victoria Point
Equipment: JP Freeride 84L, 5.0 NP wavesail, unknown brand 31cm fin.
Details about Self: 29, 175cm, 85kg, 1.5 years
Comments: Followed a mate down the speed run (he had a GPS), I had more speed and overtook him on the run. He said his GPS said 28 knots so I think I did about 30. This is the first time I've had any idea of how quick I'm going.
My 5.0 was overpowered in the gusts, board was eating up the small chop, just touching the water underneath the back footstrap, occasionally lifting out all the way on the fin. Closed the slot with the wave sail, front toes lifting like crazy, trying to get the "magic carpet" effect happening.
Followed Vando and Pierre down the run as well, could just keep up on a beam reach but when they bore away I had no chance. All I can say is that if that's what 30 knots feels like, then 40 must be ab so lutely fkn scary!!!

GPS Display Maximum Speed: 36.4knots
Conditions: Small Chop
Wind : 20-28 knots
Equipment: Exocet Warp Speed, Aerotech VMG 6.0, custom fin 27
Comments:Got down for a late sail after sitting at a BBQ watching the trees swaying man that's painfull. Water condition were good but the angle was to tight had to bear away into the chop.
Hey nebs when you getting a GPS mate.
Hey Nebs-
Get a GPS!
I had 5 x 10sec > 30? knots today and it was AWESOME.
Ultimately it improves your sailing.
Sorry I Missed the VP action today - was at Manly with only a few mates!
- J
I get the feeling that getting a GPS is a slippery slope... suddenly no matter what your income you're always broke, buying trickier and tricker gear for that extra 0.1 of a knot.
At least grooveriding there are so many more skills to learn than just "bear away and grit your teeth".
That said, it was fun just seeing just how brown I could get my boardies today ![]()
I can see what the attraction is.

Comments: Cant seem to get my harness lines the correct length, I need to get some adjutsable ones. Also tried my speed board that I made about 20 years ago - hmmmmm I dont think it is a flyer but will try next time I sail in 30 knts + . Still great days sailing ![]()
Hey Haggar,
I've got some Visual Speed harness lines, bought them from Padi I think, around the $15/pair mark. Hard to believe but they're my favourite compared to my $40 Pryde fixed lines...
Don't slip, easy to adjust, only caveat is you have to pull them apart and cut some of the nylon sleeve off if you want anything less than 30 inches. Also had to buy some high pressure hose to replace the nylon sleeve after a year of solid use. Wouldn't go back to fixed lines now ![]()
Took my 20 inch fixed NP lines out the other day and now can't believe that I used to sail with non-adjustable lines... they make life so much easier.
Nebs
Can not be easier than the correct length lines
I also want independant checking of that 85kg claim
