Chrispy - I've got a theory about the sharks being close to shore on the way north....here goes........traditionally the whales stay out wide on the way north as they travel with the south swells. For the past couple of weeks we have had a consistent east swell, that's assuming the Tweed Buoy has correct, as such the whales are coming in closer.

On the way south they will be going with N/E wind swells typical with that time of the year, also it allows them to come into the bays & give the calves a bit of quick rest, anyone who had dragged a tired toddler around with appreciate that.

On Friday night during an add break after Manly scored another try against Souths, the wife asked if I wanted to get a cabin at Evans for the Show Long Weekend and I said nope.....might wait till the bait fish have cleared off!! Looks like we will head to the Sunny Coast to see friends - at least at this time of year I won't need to take boards.

I'm thinking I might give away the full moon surfs for a while!!

Yep experiencing the same in the West. Whales are getting heaps closer to shore than they did in the past. I reckon that's part of the problem. That & that there simply are more sharks. And some are associating humans with food due to people burlying up the water from their boats & cage diving.

we had a pod of dolphins harassing us all afternoon with a cute little baby, steeling our fish. bloody smart little sh!ts
they would grab the mackerel without getting hooked on the lures giving a tug-a-war till they got the fish.

We didn't mind we got a feed and a great show

Im voting for a hipster cull from Evans to Byron no leggies is more dangerous than sharks

More sharks sightings and attacks on north Coast =
more people in water
more people surfing earlier and later due to crowd probs
people pooing their pants thinking they have seen a shark= seaweed, dolphin, marlin, sailfish, seal, shadow, fkin dugong
Laceys mates telling porkie pies to scare him out of the water

Mate I think it would be a huge waste of taxpayers money its a bloody big ocean out there where do you stop As long as mankind thinks the human race must be preserved at whatever cost we are Farked in my opinion I worked a fella whos son was killed by a bull shark locally, he still surfs and holds no malice towards sharks
Some of us just get to passionate about the whole debate cause we surf and cant handle the threat of a shark attack. Me I think about it when I surf or dive the same way I think about an Iced up P plater killing me or my family on the pacific Highway

Just wondering..... are there many long boarders amongst the attack statistics... or is it mostly short boarders ...?
Has anyone yet worked out if the attacks are near the "bite " time , that is when the moon /tide effect the feeding time of fish .. ?there are usually two times in a 12 hour period when fish feeding activity increases most keen fishos know this. I know in the future down Flat rock way ill be trying to minimise the sitting on the long board , plus being aware of the feeding times should decrease the chances of being mistaken for something edible... just my thinking...!
