A lot of boat for the money.

Yes and no...
Old steel boats like this really should be gutted, blasted inside and repainted, before reinstalling the interior.
That's a hell of a lot of work.
I bought a bargain steel boat once (7.5K) she was sold to me as a Buchanan as well but after some research I don't believe she was. I had been buying boats and doing them up, Laser, nacra, Jarcat and a Careel 18 making money on them with a plan to work up to a yacht. Then I bought Jusante, bit off a lot more than I could chew, eventually she rusted away in the backyard, I couldn't keep up with the rust, it took off in her bilges after she was out of the water and dry. I tried to sell her, no luck, so I parted her out and cut her up for scrap after many years. Got my money back minus the crane and transport fees after many many hours of work. Felt guilty as she was a very pretty boat, classic lines and very fair for a steely. She would have looked beautiful in her prime with dark blue hull with gold pin strip and white topsides.
This pic is after I pulled out the props and let drop onto her side. Still got her ships bell and a couple of winches and some other bits and pieces.

A lot of boat for the money.

What a shame. That's a sweet looking hull shape.
The reality is that after 20 years or so, most steel boats need major work. Some will have been built with proper drainage built into the stringers and access to the entire bilge, and they will be generally ok, as will be the ones that have been meticulous about prep and paint inside.
There is a reason why steel boats start getting very cheap as they get old.

i like the look of this boat. I like the flush decks and the two cockpits.
bit pricy for an old boat. Looks like the interior would need a bit of work. Electronics look old etc.

Sailboat of the year 1973. They have always been a classy boat. This one looks to be well fitted out but the owners ran out of money when it came to the anchor!

They need to sort out the advert text..........keel ballast more than the total displacement, draft the same as the beam...........
This boat is legendary in JOG circles but make sure you are sitting down when you see the asking price............it may very well be worth it but would need a very specific owner and crew who were rusted on to in-line spreaders and runners..............it is over twice the previous high selling price of an Aust quarter tonner that I am aware of. It has a diesel and shaft drive. Of course in the UK ex 1981 world champ 1/4 tonners are being refurbished for 6 figure pounds amounts and now winning "1/4 ton revival" regattas but the owners have a tad more than that behind them..............
Strip plank cedar with epoxy resin and glass reinforcement each side is an excellent construction medium but is not "GRP with cedar core".

Silly money! If you want a boat with checkstays or running backstay you don't need to spend that sort of money.

On the other hand, she'd rate really well IRC or ORC and for plenty of people that's not significant money for an immaculate giant killer with no work to do. I think there's a similar boat in Brissie doing well and I'd assume that it would have had similar money spent on it.
I used to sail against it; it's going very quickly and the owner seems a good guy in no need of the cash, so he can probably wait for the right buyer.
Plenty of boat for the money.

Another Petersen for the right money. Wheel steer would have to go.

...if of course you want a 41 year old balsa cored boat...
We've got one the same age, with balsa core. She's got one slight issue with the core in one spot, which is a very good tradeoff for a lighter, stronger, warmer, stiffer boat.
Not for sale but just bought and about to take up residence here. I had the guided tour this morning. The quality of everything is just outstanding! The video is of a sistership. The one here has tiller steering.
Maybe need to start an interesting boat not for sale thread, novacastreans may remember this one from 2017. Ruach avanti Wait to go up on the Harwood slip. Don't see many gaff schooners around

You are lucky.
There is potential for major problems. You would want to go over the whole boat with a good surveyor with a top notch moisture meter...and do a lot of tapping.
Centre cockpit Carter 33. I'm surprised this has been for sale for so long!

I was on my way to have a look at that boat last July when I got locked out of NSW due to Vic lockdown 2. Then it had been on the market since April and the asking price was 14.5k. Different dink and motor now but not much else has changed. At the time my concerns were the diesel being a bit of an oddball and the life left in the new sails that had done 12000nm. The liferaft was also due for a repack and the wind vane was missing the paddle which is pretty much unobtanium unless you could get a hold of one to copy. Might still be worth a look but not for that price.

I had a look when it was for sale last year. It had actually been on sale since January. I was going to put an offer in but at the time the engine was not running, no big problem (AFAIK) but the owner had taken the wiring apart and couldn't figure out how to put it back together. The other thing is to look very carefully for any oil leak. I think the engine mounting stud had been drilled out and through to the crankcase, by the previous, previous owner and then put back in with red locktite, it never sealed properly and could not be removed to fix it properly. It might have been fixed by now.
I later rang up the owner to see if he had got the engine running and make an offer but he had sold it that morning for the asking price.
Pretty much as Drouge said, and also to note it doesn't have any fresh water tank. Condition of hull is excellent in my view and you would be hard pressed to find any corrosion. It's not painted inside or out.
It's listed as a Vlot 18, That's a typo, it is a Flot 18 Mk IV
You can see the (3? times) previous Canadian owner post at

I don't think it has done a circumnavigation as claimed, but still impressive to have done atlantic and pacific.
The asking price is a little crazy and well above the $14.5 paid, some time or another you are going to want to repower it.
I have always loved the NIS concept, and if I were after a small cruising boat at this point on my life I would find this hard to walk past... as is is I'm dreaming...

That Cirrostratus looks fast and in pretty nice condition, good choice.
I've been looking for info on this for a couple of days. Thinking it may be a one off? Lifting bulb, multi-chine, looks like built for a specific purpose.
At first I thought there was some other hull appendage behind the bulb keel but now I'm thinking it is just how it is being proped up.

I wonder what the lines disappearing down the back stay opening in the bimini are? Don't think a small bimini like that and that high up will give much shade.
Anchor plates for dodger are enormous in the cockpit! Rope to wire splices to contend with or change of winches on the mast if change to rope halliards. Strange they werent done as a lot of other work seems to have been done to the boat and it's quite an interesting boat
The halyards all seem to be Dyneema.
I always use my phone to look at these things and my eyesight isn't the best anymore. Looked like old style drums for wire at first sight. I'm sure you are correct especially if you have looked on a laptop.
