Joint Statement for inclusion on Sea Breeze.
A representative of Whitfords Sea Rescue Group (WVSRG), and Peter Morgan have met to reconcile their different perspectives on the collision that occurred between Peter Morgan when he was kite surfing and the WVSRG vessel Green 1 on the 30/12/2013 near Quinns Rocks.
WVSRG has understood that Peter Morgan’s kite surfing activity includes racing and free style.
On the day in question it is apparent that Peter was engaged in race training - and therefore not “stuffing around’ (as was reported by one media outlet) and not interested in jumping the wake of Green 1.
As a result of this accident WVSRG has alerted its skippers to an attribute of the racing activity in that the kite surfer’s attention is to the upwind and less so to downwind, in contrast to most recreational kite surfers.
As the Marine Safety report stated ‘Learning and understanding the idiosyncrasies of these activities may assist in understanding probably movement.’ ‘In this case (action to avoid collision … made early and readily apparent) may still not be seen by the kite surfer.’ For their part ‘Kite surfers engaged in the activity described here should have situational awareness of other craft in the area’. Both parties are relieved that the incident did not result in serious injury.
This concludes this matter and no further statements from WVSRG or Pete Morgan will be forthcoming regarding this collision.

Sorry but all this really says is that both groups need to be more aware and look out for the other. It does not cover the right of way issues that need to be adhered to...

who is gonna get hurt in a collision - a kiteboarder, their body protected by.. errrr ...... exactly nothing - or a 40ft boat... lol

common sense says kiteboarders will use caution, respect says slow down and keep your distance from kiters

Mate... are you a bit slow or what... I'll break it down for you one last time!

1. Pilot Pete was in lala land cruising along with his skid lid on... Having a wonderfull old time and oblivious to what was going on around him. Maybe he was singing 'wake me up, before you go go' or something similar.

2. Sea Rescue were out and about rightfully saving bell ends fisho's from running out of fuel ect.

3. Pilot pete and Sea Rescue joined up for some water based Kite Vs Boat panelbeating

4. Pilot Pete had his feelings hurt. Sea Rescue got the blame..

5. Forum experts posted their views. Blah Blah Blah. Report was completed...

6. Both to blame. No Compo for PP case closed.

Obersvations from this topic...

Kiters are need to pay attention/give way to things that are bigger and made from metal in order to preserve their existence and their gear.

THE END>>>

Rightfully and respectfully the last word should actually come from the ONLY people who were actually involved

there was heaps of Who Ha when it happened, but since the comments werent positive towards Pilot Pete he droped it like a hot spud!!!

Now if he had got a payout and people agreed with him, he would have been singing just like a canary in the sunshine.
