I get Laurie's dilemma he doesn't want to do the work to moderate this section properly but he loves the income from random advertising
So he threatens to close this section and hopes we will self moderate
It does make his life so much easier

People generally can't be nice by themselves, so without moderation we are doomed. Especially in the current period where there is a bit of unease about.

I was under impression ( wrong again of course)
that I am delivering colorful, though and imagination provoking content, a bit of rational discussion, reasonable critique included.
But seems it looks like a waste of my time and yours ( i am greater audience here on SB)
I will rather withdraw for while .
After recent raining seasons I found amazing amount of funny creatures popping now everywhere on my farm .
Those greeny jumpers remained me something I left somewhere far away ...

If they are advanced enough to see us without us seeing them, they are probably a bit more accepting than you would think. They might be thinking:

They are just learning how the climate changes. It took us a while to figure out if it was us or not.
Typical 'human behavior'. We did that too.
Why does that guy keep posting pictures of cows on that website? We didn't do that.

Similarly, if you were a god, would you criticize the acts that your people do, or just understand them?

It's an interesting question to ponder. A lot will depend on the wavelength of the telescope and the length of time that they have been watching us. Just a short time viewing in the visible, without the technology to eavesdrop and decode our www chat, or the history of earth available on youtube will have them scratching heads.

They'll see all these creatures zipping about localised dense colonies in 3 tonne wheeled machines. Every 2 out of 7 planet revolutions they scurry into big green builidings coming out with battery-powered devices with which they construct patios to protect themselves from the sun.

The snorkels they fit to their means of conveyance will be puzzling. How come snorkels that are fitted to the vehicles when constructed in a factory have the inlet facing backwards yet the little creatures spend a great deal of time and effort to rearrange them to face forwards?

And why are snorkels ubiquitous on the west coast of one continent but relatively rare on the east coast of that same continent where all the flooded roadways are?

Yes but how is "watching from a distance" defined in our concept of time? Macro could have been pondering what they will be thinking in 500 years time when the images of us "now" arrive then?

So, the basic premise is that any species that has the capability to produce technology will ineluctably destroy itself?

Unless there are lucky enough to develop artificial intelligence. AI robots may have most likely circuit preventing from suicide and another circuit of common sense, third logic. Looks all three are missing in human race or at least defective.

so would these AI robots be self-replicating and replace the more primitive organisms that created them in the first place? In which case, if they are self-replicating, they qualify as life. And then they'd be subject to Darwinian selection and go down the evolutionary path to pick up the attributes that we have, which always leads to self-destruction. It's a universal constant . You can't beat it.

I am not sure that the aliens would be able to see the green sides of the big buildings through their telescopes

You don't have a 3 tonne vehicle with a forward facing snorkel? What happened to assimilation!

Doing my best. Researching a vehicle update. It's between the LC300 GX and the Ineos Grenadier. I'm leaning towards the Grenadier. The nautical, seabreezy connection. Ineos Brittania being Challenger of record for AC37 has got to count for something? The Grenadier is a little cheaper, no chance of getting either until the end of the year, both come with rearward facing snorkels but that can be rectified.

I think I have invested hundreds of dollars on replacing sprinklers in my reticulation system and spend hours in Bunnings buying them. I now have a green yard, which is much nicer than what was here, but I somehow respect the people that just don't bother. Who needs rain when you have a 3 phase pump?

It still really bugs me that people here cannot merge onto a freeway by matching their speed and sloting in. Everytime I see if they will accelerate or brake to fit in the gaps I am bitterly disappointed. Maybe that's why there are so many 4wds, so they can just batter their way in?

As for 4wds, I was looking to buy a hybrid instead until the import rules changed and delayed everything.

I'd left a bit of space for the two vehicles in front of me to merge in easily, when a 3rd cam accelerating up the inside, trying to beat me to the merge point, I just indicated and moved over, it was that or having to slam my brakes on. There was no room for a third car.

Having a 20-year-old car covered in lichen seems to do the job nicely.
