Wouldn't mounting P plates be easier?
Wouldn't make any difference to most people. It has to be seen to be believed that people here just "merge" across the dotted line without looking or adjusting speed. To make it worse, people move out of the left lane to let them in, which just reinforces the behavior, and even I have started doing it.
To be fair, as I have said before, the onramps here are not long enough. People seem to struggle to get up to speed before the lane runs out, which is sort of funny as a lot of them drive like idiots on the freeway where speed no longer seems to be a problem, and then sit in the right hand lane until they are close to their exit ![]()

Wouldn't be quite as bad, if the tress and shrubs blocking vision on the entry to the ramps, weren't there. At least if both lanes of traffic could see each other on the approach to the ramp, it would give more time to adjust speed.
I guess that's why some people just sit in the outside lane, they don't have to avoid somebody just appearing alongside them, who's lane is rapidly running out.
My worst experience coming onto a ramp, (doing freeway speed) was emerging alongside a road train. I only had a second to decide whether to brake or speed. I went with speed, as of course there was some idiot tail gating the road train. I had to break the speed limit to make a safe entry on to the freeway.

Yeah, which is why I now think that the onramps are too short here. I looked at one the other day and there is only really a very short distance to speed up, to see what's running parallel with you, and then finally to merge. Which is probably why a lot of people don't bother.
While I am whining about other road behavior here, it makes me chuckle when you see someone way back that is flying up in the right lane, just so that they can sit up behind you. I think they don't want to go that fast, they just want to sit up behind you.
When I figured this out I started moving over as soon as I possibly could before they got there, and it confuses them. They seem to get parallel and then slow down as there is no one to hide behind. I am not sure if this is just unthinking behavior or if they want someone to be the first one if there is a speed camera up ahead.
I use 'Waze' all the time when driving towards the city, so I can see the congestion ahead, before I get to it and it amazes me the amount of people that will keep on driving fast in the right hand lane even though you can see a sea of red brake lights ahead.
Wouldn't be quite as bad, if the tress and shrubs blocking vision on the entry to the ramps, weren't there.
But you're even older than me Decrepit! You must have also seen the motor vehicle expand from next to nothing to its
current level of domination. You would have walked to school, you would have pulled out the rubbish bin to play cricket out the front of your house. Your mum would have sent you down to the corner shop for half a pound of butter from the time you could walk. Chopping down the trees and shrubs for the benefit of motoring is just rolling over.
We shouldn't pick on WA drivers in this nice thread.
We're all the same. Any differences in culture can usually can be put down to environment.
Low rainfall leads to low gutters. Low gutters means you don't need to park accurately. No need to master parking can lead to lack of spatial awareness of how your vehicle fills the void around you.
Found a picture of one of those fussy modern mag wheels from the eastern states on the other thread. How come you can't buy a car with no nonsense plain old steel wheels these days? Does anybody have a car with modern mag wheels that they actually think look good?
How do you extricate the caption from a posting in the "Funny images thread" ? Would it be funny without the caption?

I can't criticise the scraped rims! I had heaps of cars where I have done that. The best thing I stumbled across by accident were the tyres that have a lip to protect the rims. I think its the Michelin Sports Pilot series. Ever since I have used them, no more scraped rims (just tyres).
That trend where they fit under-width tyres to rims would have me scraping all the time. I would be afraid to drive anywhere.
The drivers in WA are not so good though, just like the drivers in NSW and probably everywhere else in the country. When it is where speeding is the only thing policed, people can drive anyway they want as long as they miss enough speed cameras over long enough time.
Given that the thread is going to disappear soon anyway, I may as well whine about the roundabout indicating now. I just don't get the need to indicate when leaving roundabouts in most cases. Especially when people do it too early and it can be misleading. May as well not bother.
When I was a lad... (there were still crap drivers, but slower cars)
When you were a lad roundabouts didnt exist.
Did they??

He's not one of those know-it-alls when it comes to things including driving is he? Those guys are the same young or old. You are probably one of them based on some of your replies.
When I was learning, I don't think there were roundabouts in the area, but its hardly rocket science. Yet these days you see plenty of people on P plates that seem to have skipped that section. What excuse would they use?
My local area had an 'impeller' in one intersection. I can forgive people not knowing what they are, but it wasn't that hard to figure it out. Yet they removed it because so many people couldn't figure out how it worked.
Yes, we were very impressed by that, pity we haven't copied them.
There's a myriad number of things we should have copied from our Tasman Cousins......
Firstly their Country's No-fault compensation scheme.
A no-fault compensation scheme is one in which accidents and injuries are regarded as inevitable, and the emphasis is on compensating victims for related expenses - without anyone having to enter the civil justice system and proving another party is liable for damages.
Secondly, how to play Rugby
Thirdly, [keep it going guys as this may actually redeem the first 8 pages of this thread

Waaaay more interesting then hearing about how bad things are in WA on the roads.
Loto:
"it has become..." not it had gotten
"stories" not story's (they don't belong to an entity)
"on the roads in WA" not in WA on the roads.
Sometimes I did wonder if you have any post that does not mention WA or windsurfers, but now I will never know.... thank god for the new 'hide' function on this forum.

I wish Australia adopted the yellow centre line system that they have in the US. Very simple,. One instantly knows what the traffic flow is. Removes all ambiguity about one way roads because in such cases, the yellow line will still be there, but on the edge.
nah if yellow meant centre and suddenly it was at the edge, I swear to god some people would drive on the footpath.
have you driven in Kiwiland?
"Merge like a zip" on the signs.
Makes it easy (cuz)
"Merge like a zip" if you're queer otherwise get yourself an inch ahead to claim the spot and make sure the other person has to brake and ruin traffic flow to avoid an accident.
Still not the end...?

They only use yellow so it shows up against snow.
Aus version of 'merge like a zip' would be 'merge like Velcro', tailgate as close as possible.
Especially important if the car has L or new P plates displayed.

We will see , how it works in practice. Two things :
Misinformation?
And
Trumps account on Tweeter.
Musk will get Trump back on twitter soon enough, as he should be. As will the Biden laptop story. As will Dr Robert Malone.
Maybe even Alex Jones and infowars
Good times
Hahahaha.
Yeah I'd be inclined to listen to a political activist who can't even make a well-composed meme.
Then again, its aimed at swaying Labor voters so its possibly designed to be on their level?

Who is it aimed at? People who can't spell?
I can't figure out if its aimed at anyone other than someone taking the piss out of the Labor party. Which is a bit lame if they can't spell. Is it like those phishing emails where they dumb down the spelling and grammar to filter out educated people?
