It seems like the next Duotone Slick wing V3 for 23/24 is to be launched in april/may.
Confirmed by my dealer, but without further details.
Any known leaks on the wing?
I just hope Duotone keeps the penta tx front tube and strut material, combined with the Mod3 canopy of the Unit wing.
Cheers,
Frank

Hasn't been released yet, so no one knows where they will leak ??
There was talk of a" light wind" 3 strut wing in the works. It would be cool to see it's in this new line up.
Darn! I'm really happy with my SLS quiver!!! Now I've got to upgrade in a few months!!!
Very content with my SLS quiver as well. I've jumped on every new Duotone boom wing since the originals in Aug 2019. This is the first time I feel like I have no reason to quickly upgrade. The SLS's have maintained a nice tight frame for the time that I've owned them.
Happy to see the technology march forward,... and happy to finally feel like I don't have to race to keep up with the changes. Whatever the performance improvements they probably won't mean squat to the skill level of 95% of the (gear obsessed
) forum members here, despite the typical promotional hype
It's interesting that a couple of years ago the assumption was Duotone was the only one with a boom because they had a patent on it and Fone was the only one with 3 struts for the same reason.

I believe the Duotone patent only applies to how the boom attaches to the wing, which was pretty weird anyway and probably only applied to original Foil Wing and Echo. I wonder if they even bothered pursuing a patent for the Slick Mini Boom attachment.
so we have Duotone, Ensis, Slingshot, and Ocean Rodeo with full booms off top of my head. Anybody I'm missing?

What was that lightweight British one I saw here a few weeks back?

I think I've seen a Gong Boom wing as well. So that might be coming soon.
the only things the Slick SLS needs is a stiffer leading edge handle and a propensity not to flip over. that second one is a big 'only' and the first one could help in that effort.

The Kauper Tyron wing is German and there boom is option add on, and yeah Gong now has two models with booms .

That's the one! That looked sweet. I have had Duotone, Cabrinha, and Slingshot with their various takes on handles. I'm not absolutely wed to Duotone, but I definitely love a full boom.

Duotone knows that a tight canopy leads to less stability in terms of flipping over but they have decided that it's more important to have a tight canopy than one that doesn't flip. At least that was what Ken winner said in his blue planet interview. They have led the charge on tight canopies and I don't see them changing soon.

I found the tight canopies harder to tack, they just don't depower as easily, though they do seem more powerful than the previous model Slick.

knowing you have developed a wing that is prone to flipping over should lead to at least trying to compensate for that with a leading edge handle that isn't a wet noodle. such a simple (partial) fix, not sure why they wouldn't do it.

Do you mean flip over when you crash and let go?
I never had a problem with the sls flipping while flagged out waveriding.

using the v3 Unit now which is awesome and has stiffer leading edge handle which I'm certain the new slick will have ![]()
sometimes when i flag it while waveriding, it wants to flip over and i have to use both hands to stabilize it, one hand on the handle and the other pushing down or pulling up off-center of the leading edge. on the beach carrying it is much worse, and it just isn't happy until it flips over. entering and exiting the water is the same...it wants to flip over, which can really suck in shore break. but i hope you're right about a new stiffer handle. overall, if it weren't for the boom, i wouldn't be using these wings at all.

Strange as I had the 5 & 4m and was suprised how good they are flagged out. Not sure why you would use the le handle on beach or shore break just hold it with your hand at front of boom. That's a major benefit of the boom and hard handles ![]()

I had mine deflated and laid out to dry in a closed garage. It flipped over. it's sorcery I tell you.

i have tried holding the boom rather than the le handle, but the results are the same. as the wing tries to flip, the boom just slips/rotates in my hand no matter how tight i grasp it. i'm talking about walking with my board here as well. when walking with just the wing, sure, just hold the boom over my head with two hands like i'm on the water and all is fine.

Maybe your wing is twisted or something from being hit by waves ????? I know kites get twisted from crashing in waves and fly to one side so guess it can happen to wings. My sls were super stable as are the new Units

I can fully subscribe to that. But only for my "normal" Slicks. I have not tried the SLS yet. I hope the SLS does not behave like that.
I thought that would be a significant improvement on the SLS.
I really like my Slicks but that bahaviour sucks. Happens always when good powered, not in light wind. When overpowered it is a disaster. In the small sizes (2,5 / 3,5 /4,5) it is worse than in the big sizes (5 / 5,5 / 6,5).

In a nutshell - the Slick V3 will be awesome! can't wait for the release :)
Funny how nothing comes close to making me want to buy a product than Robert's interviews with designers...
Reviews are nice but there's something special about these types of interviews
