I have the MA850v2 and the old MA1050. My last session I tried the MA1050 with the S208. But it felt very unstable!
S208 works well with MA1050v2. My most used foil combination at the moment. The MA v2 is such a good allrounder my SF foils don't get much to do. Speed range of the MA1050v2 is crazy.
I have the MA850v2 and the old MA1050. My last session I tried the MA1050 with the S208. But it felt very unstable! So I switched back to the S210 for the MA1050. The MA850v2 works much better with the S208. Maybe the stabiliser is too fast for the ma1050, I don't know but it didn't feel good. Up down up down up down, no stability.
I had the same experience, MA1050 (2022) with S210 is much more easy/calm, may be a bit slower (I do not have a GPS traker) than with S208.
Any word of the release of the pump and glide foils or the DW or Mid Length boards?
I spotted some details on a set of new DW front wings on a random wingfoil group on FB - 700, 900,1100 and 1400, looked nice, not sure what the AR is. Set of new stabs coming too. Hopefully official release soon. Also had some pics of the DW board.
I saw some pictures of the dw Board and the foils aswell on a fb page, but it got removed. Here i found some pictures, but not much details.

Anyone can share more details?
- release date?
- Can you dockstart, flatwaterstart the DW1100?
- speed / stallspeed / maneuverability compared to sf, maV2, ha?

Thanks, great looking line up. Gotta get saving !
This is my first post here. I came across this thread by Google search spent time reading it and feel I can contribute since I have lots of North foils from the old stuff like reflexed wing profile and the old HA to the new HA and the newest SF foil.
I have these North gears.
Front wings:
1850R (this foil is the very strange one but mostly good in its days it has a very good speed range you can go really fast in high wind but no glide at all so it is so bad in light conditions with lulls)
Old HA1450 (not a high aspect in today's standard this foil is very easy but very slow)
HA1050
SF1080
Stabs:
S01, S270, S208 and have S215 on order
Masts and fuselages.
I have CF72 and CF85 mast and C600 and C700 fuses.
In the local spot where I lived (Phuket, Thailand) the wind is mostly light 6-15kt rarely above 20kt and many no-wind days. So my gears are for that kind of condition. I'm around 73-75kg.
I think if you want to buy North gears right now you should only consider the HA and SF series. The MAs may be suitable for some people in some conditions but I think the right size HAs and SFs will cover that condition with higher performance.
HA1050 is high-performance foil very slippery through the lulls. I can get it up in 8-10kt relatively easily in flat water with lots of wing pumping to get board speed. Foil pumping when the board is still on the water does not really help with this foil. So I have difficulty in light wind and choppy sea with the chop to slow you down all the time (I use a 5ft board about 72L). I just ordered a very narrow 18" downwind board to see if it will help in this condition. I use this foil with S208 (didn't try with other stabs) The glide is unreal but the problem is the stall speed. You may drop off foil if you are not careful. And in very light wind you need to manage your wing to avoid back winding in jibe as you are lots faster than the wind.
The SF1080 is my go-to light wind setup. Before I had this foil I used an OLD HA1450 for light wind and it is very good for that but it is very slow and not good at turning at all. The SF1080 is very easy to get up in and it has very low stall speed you can slow down to almost a standstill and regain speed and control when you dive down which is incredible. The carve stability is insanely good. You will feel lock-in on pitch and roll so it makes you a better foiler instantly. It's the easiest foil to pump. And very stable when you luff the wing and go downwind with the swell. I currently use SF1080 with S208 (high aspect fast stab) because my S215 (low-speed surf stab)
I think I might buy a smaller SF830 when it comes out.
I have HA1050 and buy SF1080 just for light wind wing foiling.
I think HA1050 is a good for downwinding but it need more skill than I have since it faster than the most short period swell where I live but should be perfect for fast moving open ocean swell in where most pros do the downwinding on YouTube.
The SF1080 is much slower than the HA1050 but very easy to use. I think it can't keep up with the fast moving swell. I think I might get the smaller SF when it is available.
Hi, You're riding in my dream spot, Phuket !!!
I'm beginner/intermediate, foiling in similar condition in Cayo Coco Cuba, 10 ~ 15 kt
Im 73 kg using 5.2m Wing, 100L board, Infinity 99 front wing.
My plan is to get 70 ~ 80 L, with SF 1080 or 1230.
Plan to visit Hua Hin, Phuket next Jan with this set up.
When is sub 10, I usually foil with kite.
Can SF 1080 be one quiver Front wing with 5.2m wing in 12 ~ 15 kt condition (not much chop)
Will I be able to foil in 10 kt ?
Or
Would you recommend SF 1230 ?
1 out of 7 days , wind here can be 15 ~ 18 kt
Would SF 1230 too much of foil for my weight at 18 kt ?
Also have 2' wind swell here, wish to jump on that as well.
I wish to experience that instant boost at foiling.

I'm heavier than you. 77-78 kg and the SF930/S215 is more than enough for you:
winging in 12-15 knts
kitefoiling in 10 knts.
I'd forget the 1080/1230 as they are for heavier weights and you'll lose in turning radius, speed, nimbleness.
I can dockstart the SF930 to give you an idea of its low stall speed.
And I personally use the MA850v2/178 as my every day setup, even in 12-15 knts. Small loss of low end vs the SF930

You can easily use SF1080 in 10kt with a 5m wing. For winging, SF1080 is slow enough for your weight so don't go any bigger. Tangur recommends SF930 for you and I second that. If I have a chance to try both before buying I think get that one instead.
You may want to wait a bit to see how the new DW-specific foil. I find winging a small DW foil is more fun in light conditions because it can go much faster than the SF and can cruise through the lull better.
Looks like new range is getting launched on the website today northkb.com/pages/foil-rider-style
The Horizon board isn't as expensive as I presumed it would be (still a lot of bucks :-) )

I concur w the above, the 930SF is my 75% Go-Too. I'm 80 kg's and it's stall speed, ease to get up and FUN factor is North's Gold Standard. Chest high to below waves, DWing w a little bump or jumping and freestyle, this thing is an ATV, I pair it w the 208Stab and only use the surf stab if it looks like a pumping day.
On another note, first day on the 680SF yesterday, powered up on a 5M Nova, chest to shoulder high waves. I was pleasantly surprised how easily it came up. Stall speed also blew my mind. The carve is crazy. Passive speed without throttling down let me do anything I was capable of on a wave w confidence. I was apprehensive, but the 830SF wasn't available yet so I went for it. Only negative is once I was comfortable I tried to launch a few jumps by putting the peddle down, the 208 Stab was a def mismatch, the stab started exerting it's will. ;) Waiting on the matching stab here Stateside to see the foils full potential.

Nice one, I've been craving user info on the SF680 as I'm tempted by it for my next front wing. Sounds good, keep it coming
Hello,
I hope some North owners can help me with advice on their foils. I'm currenty riding a Gong Fluid LT (1200 cm MA). I like this setup but I want to upgrade to a carbon mast, and a somewhat more HA FW (more glide). I really like the way North is built and the prices are not that much higher than a gong setup. I mostly ride lakes and his year maybe some ocean. Weight about 85 kg. Jibes are good, tacks are soso.
I'm looking for a setup for winds from 15-30 knots. The difficulty with the FW from North is for me: the MA looks about the same as my fluid shapewise. So maybe not that much to gain performance wise. The HA seems like a really high aspect FW. I don't know if that is for me, and especially if I want to go to the ocean ,I don't want it to be all to difficult to get up. Is the SE something in between? The shape looks like a mix between MA en HA.
Thanks! ![]()
I only use the MA series. I see it like this. SF = surf HA= speed glide MA = do it all in between. MA has good speed, better then SF, little less then HA. Turning is better. Their MA V2 series is amazing, you can't go wrong on that one.

Howdy, I used to ride the Gong Fluid LT and the HA Veloce L before moving to North about a year ago. I got the SF930/S215 and carbon 85 mast - weight 74kg. My goal was surfing large bay swell and surf when i could get it. Quality wise, back then it was a clear step up from gong (but in fairness gong has improved, as have their prices). The SF930 surprised me at the start as it wasn't as fast as the veloce and felt similar to the Fluid, but its such a user friendly foil, my winging progressed big time. My gong alu mast used to ventilate at speed and the carbon 85 never does - the whole North setup is a good weight and good stiffness.
I have since gotten the HA850 and reduced down the stabs (S178). The HA is more nervous but much faster.
I have stayed away from the MA range as its not what I seek out but if you read back the thread you will see they are the best all rounders. For your conditions I reckon the ma850v2 would bring a smile to your face when riding.
North are much slower to release new stuff than gong - they are almost opposite in terms of strategy. If you are comfortable with quality gear then go for it. If you love the latest and greatest and wanna switch things up frequently, maybe stick with gong and go for their carbon range.
my 0.2 cents anyhow

I ride North for over a year and still like it very much, especially the quality, ease of use with one tool only, the really good foils, and their policy of bringing new stuff on the market, that is well tested and designed, and not changing gear every 6 months.
For your conditions I would suggest the MA range, 15-30 knt and 85kg the 1050, either V1, more economic, especially when you buy it used, a bit faster and more agile but less glide as V2. I did try both at 93kg with S210 and S208.
I tried HA 850, 1150 and 1250, for me also riding 90% lakes not the right foil.
I thought often about the SF series, but did not buy/try , because I like to be a bit fast...
Anyone tried the new HM Mast? Especially the 85 in comparison to the CF 85?
Is the HM really stiffer/faster than the CF, any issues of breaking as a heavy rider?
MA1050 V2 slower then the MA1050??
Well I do not have a GPS tool, so it is just feeling, maybe I feel like this because the V2 is more stabil ? And I had 3 days on the V2 so maybe I' m not used to it. But the V1 is fast compared to other wingers I met.

Hi there,
with 15 to 30kn I would actually suggest MA850v2 with S208 stabilizer if you like it more surfy but fast. Or the S210 if you prefer a bit more locked in feeling.
Under 15kn I would suggest MA1050V2 with the same stabilizer combination as above.
The MA's are actually quite fast wings for being mid aspect ratio all around freeride front wings. They are not far off of the HA wings in regards to top end speed but with a much greater bottom end.
Love the HA's for their speed and acceleration, they just feel so fraction less through the water. However you have to keep the pace up a bit in your maneuvers compared to the MA wings.
MAv1 vs. MAv2
The top end is very similar, the MAv2 has just a way better bottom end range now with better glide and pumpability. MAv1 is very pitch stable which gives you great control over the wing but is not so easy to pump as these two features oppose each other.
SF
Is a super easy and fun wing range with a really really low stall speed. Lower then MAv2. It really helps you with your progression as you got all the time in the world for your maneuvers. However to allow for this massive bottom end speed it's top end speed is below the one of the MA's. But with the right stabilizer combination (S208 and even S270) you can actually push the SF front wings way over their normal sweet spot when winging.
To summarize:
If an adequate top end speed does matter to you go for the MAv2 range (best of both worlds).
If top end speed is not so on your focus and your more surf orientated go for the SF range. And if efficiency and max top end speed is all that matters to you go for the HA range.
Hope this helps a bit to make a decision.
Anyone tried the new HM Mast? Especially the 85 in comparison to the CF 85?
Is the HM really stiffer/faster than the CF, any issues of breaking as a heavy rider?
Hi Lenzilot,
the HM85 is a fair bit thinner than the CF85 hence you will notice a significant reduction in drag.
While being thinner the HM85 is also stiffer than the CF85 at the same weight though.
No problem with jumping the HM85.
All that aside the CF85 is still a really awesome masts and probably one of the stiffest and most affordable standard modules carbon prepreg masts on the market.
Hi there,
with 15 to 30kn I would actually suggest MA850v2 with S208 stabilizer if you like it more surfy but fast.
I own all of the above and they do indeed work exactly as described and intended.
However, I am still stuck with another brand for dock starting and flat-water paddle ups.
Which of your new DW wings would be my best bet to replace my current ~1400cm2 setup?
I have both the 72 and 85 mast but would probably want to use the 72 for dock starting. (~74kg on a good day)

If your main focus is dock starting then I actually would recommend the new Pump Series P1800 and P2050 front wings should be your go-to. Also good for flat water paddle-ups.
At your weight, I would recommend the P1800. (coming soon)If your focus is more on down winding and flat water paddle ups then the DW wings would make sense. Here it really depends on your paddle power and skill level. We have experienced rider flat water paddle up the DW750. While novice to intermediate riders use the DW1400 or DW1100 depending on their weight. Cheers Uli

Thanks Uli for your input here, very appreciated! Just like randomfoiler I own MA1050v2 and MA850v2 and SF. They work as you described and they're amazing foils. The speed range of the MA v2 is incredible.
What is your recommendation for ultra light wind Winging? Are these coming DW wings a good choice? For ultra light wind I use Gong Sirus L with a Gong Cruzader at the moment.

Welcome @UliSommerlatt to, what I reckon, is a great North user and appreciation thread
and my go-to for chat on North foils! Really super to have your inputs and defo looking forward to hearing more on these Pump and DW series foils.
Hello,
I hope some North owners can help me with advice on their foils.
Thanks! ![]()

Hi Uli,
I weigh 70 kg and my local spot is a "freewave" bay. Chop, swell, rarely flat. I like to do a bit of everything - jump, ride waves, go on speed runs off the wind and I've just started to learn jumping freestyle. My current foil is a Cabrinha H650 from 16 knots (4.5 wing, 75l board). I have a H1000 for 12-16 (but it feels really slow now). Could a MA850v2 be the one foil for me or could I drop down to a MA700v2?
I have a 850v2 but I use it with a bit more wind, like 20 knots or up. When doing turns or tacks I want some speed to keep foiling out of it. I suggest the MA1050v2 for what you r looking for in those wind speeds.
