From reading boards, French and German mags, I have yet to disagree with any of their tests.
Back foot vs front foot:
I will agree that some of those KS turns are more both feet then front foot.
Look at KP videos for sick front foot riding.
KP and JA boards are completely different.
This is not an indication of front back foot boards
It's an display of how the use their boards in those conditions.
If I apply backfoot pressure I feel it slows and stalls the board which is not conducive to getting me back up the wave face. I have yet to try a board where it requires me to use more backfoot pressure. I'm open to suggestions and trying out a board that does. Please suggest a 90 to 120 litre quad board that does.
Kauli is using a much different board and different style. Both riders wouldn't be able to perform as well if they traded boards. Yet, the conditions are the same and the turns and hits they aim to do for the competition are similar.
That's why style and favorite moved or goals are critical when recommending or designing a board.
So many riders here sail in the waves but each with their own style and level requiring much different gear. Yet, the conditions are the same for everyone.
A back foot quad to sail steep but short side-off or what? Asked Quattro?
^^^^ Both of these two would sail very well if they swapped boards. These guys are very skilled sailors.
As I said earlier....The video is not an indication of front back foot boards

doubt it ! .... Angulo wouldn't have been able to get upwind into the peaks even with his 5.8 and tones of rocker on a 220 -.... and kauli would have tripped every rail .... remember when Kauli's riding was revered and unique .... it was in some part because his boards were so different .... apparently , another top guy jumped on his board at a DTL contest - and his sailing started looking identical to Kauli's - like a clone ! (think it was boujma) , so there you go .... boards make styles .... take Marcilio when he switched from singles to twins - his riding totally changed - then to quads - another leap again
Nowadays - the differences in what everyone is riding boardwise is much narrower (your statement would hold true more today) - but back then (that actual moment) - you had multifins just emerging with MUCH shorter lengths (And more rail use) ..... and guys like Angulo still riding the old paradigm of 245's pintails with uncooperative single fins ..... Kauli was already riding something more his weight - with a 4.4 .... angulo was stuck on tiny singles just to get it to turn (vs his weight think an 85 chango on his 100 kg wgt) ) with a 5.8 .... that contest was 'the moment' .,... everything changed for the better in wavesailing ,... (multifins , higher volumes , more forgiving , more mobility , more rail use , better turns ... better times ! )
Seems like Josh is on Quads now.
In their gallery they show details of the board. It's a 95 liter quad.
