I was at military jetty south of Golden beach yesterday and there is some potential in a S/E providing there is enough water. Its flat and wider than further up so the tide was running out slower

Hey Salty, I Didn't have my sailing gear, we had a bbq and did some fishing. It would have been hitting 15-18 knots at times and flat
This Sat i'm keen to go to Vic Pt. Justin told me a bit about it last WW meet. If there is wind I'll fill the car with kit and go down for some speed testing. Can you get down that far south?
Anyone going sailing on Friday
Thinking maybe Golden Beach.
Saturday at Vicki point, tide looks low around noon, where is the best place besides your funnel Gestalt ? Do you just launch from Thomsons beach and off yonder to the mud banks
?
yep launch and see where the wind take you.
some hangout near thompsons. some sail out to the bank. just depends on what you fee like doin.
the funnel will only work in an Easterly so sat is prob the strip.
Hi Haggar, I should be able to make Golden beach after lunch Friday. Wind against tide should be good
Fitz,Bill & Co. if you're thinking "Tim's" -- VP speed strip for this w-end it's only speed flat about 1 to 2 hours each side of low tide when Tim'a mud bank is exposed. A S/E is very square for high speeds but is very, very nice for a good blast on heaps of flat water. Several of us are sitting waiting for the winter S/Ws to kick in which should give an almost ideal broad reach.
Could spread plenty of PBs around and 40kt plus for the fast dudes.

Hi Bill,
VP is a great area at any time, in fact I would love to live a lot closer. Coochie would be my choice but then the purchasing dept. also has a vote so unlikely to happen for a while yet. Just have to wait until she's senile so the change of address goes unnoticed.
For flat chat blasting perfect is just a small ripple so the deeper the water on the bank the better it is as a B&J spot.
Great spot with a low tide speed strip bonus.
hi bill,
low tide tomorrow is just after midday.
plev is right. it's a great spot to windsurf regardless of tide.
at high tide there is still lots of flat water around, especially at the western end. the bumpy bits are between the eastern end of Thomsons and the strip and best at high tide.
at low tide the strip is dead flat. even in 30knots close to the bank is like glass because the bank sticks about 10-20cm above the water. at low tide the water right beside the bank is 2m deep. the flat water continues for about 1km. also at low tide most of the place is flat cause there are lots of sandbanks that kill the swells.
i reckon tomorrow is our best pick this month for speed. ![]()
if you come tomorrow park at the eastern end. that is the best place to launch from at low tide. you just walk about 100m across sand and launch straight into the channel.
at high tide most park at the western end. there are maps and stuff on the wanderers website in the locations guide.

cool, i'm bringing 2 speed boards with me. one is a 1990's needle and the othre is my new proto which is actually an old slalom board cut down and reshaped.
everyone is welcome to have a blast.
i thought i'd also mention that the various speed runs around victoria point and redland bay are actually old sea-plane runways.
i am not sure if the strip was man made. that might explain the vertical edge to the bank.
the other runways are where the other runs are that ive mentioned lately. i have a map that marks them all out somewhere around here.
so when we sail we are actually sailing old runways.
hmm. that sounds like a good name. the runway.
maybe the train should be the train too.
the speed run there is a runway for the seaplane as well....
Should be good. Maximus is making the long haul down for it so I hope it gives some good wind. It is very hard to chisel him away from his beloved Golden Beach.
I doubt the bank at VP is man made, the vertical edge is more a result of the current running through the channels there. Also it only drops off for about 50m of the bank around the green beacon. The size of the bank could possibly be sustained from dredging out the boating channel though.
Well we had a great day
and it was also great to meet at last so many guys from the forum and off course the team ![]()
. The speeds may not have been earth shatering but quite a few above 30 knts, probably all we can expect with the course being so square and the wind so gusty, and another 5 knts would have been great. The speed strip is a great place for a blast and is very flat. Bring on the next one. Oh and Haircut I think was videoing a lot, looks like he is a budding spielberg, can't wait see this.![]()
Hi guys, I had a great day once I recovered from almost hitting the 'nobby clarke'. Just downloaded results. I did 28.32Knots. See you all soon
Great to meet everyone finaly! I ended up with 30.52 for 100m and 31.66 for 2 sec. Yes agree that the wind was too square, so a SW will be ripping
Next big SE I'm off to try Burrum heads
Fantastic to put faces to names, and see so many sails out on the water.
I managed a 29.3 (2sec) on Chairman's iSonic, after doing a great job 'modernising' the nose of my board in a huge catapult on the first kn run... Also took me a while to realise that a GPS down the front of a rashie doesn't get a good signal.
Please PM me all your scores. I'm not sure if it's ethical for the webmaster to be the first guy to post on the site... but it would be nice to have all your data.
What a great day. Viccy pt is definately on my list of places to go again. Fitz and I had a good bit of gybing and sprint runs at the end. Up wind beats and a bit off wind. It was great fun and great to have someone pushing that bit harder. The wind filled in to make it more consistant but sadly not stronger.
Nebbian I'll down load the GPS tommorow and sent it straight off to yourself and Gestalt.![]()
Can't stop smiling. Won't be a PB but over 30knts I'm happy.
Sorry for the edit spelling mistake...
it was a blast for sure. can't wait for when we can sail on a reach down the bank.
27.83 for me on the kult and the needle. so now we got our runs on the board. let's hope it blows again soon.
you guys with realspeed can output an excel table which is great for emailing to the skipper.

Hey Gestalt,
Those numbers sound pretty close to me...
Certainly no more than 22, never really felt overpowered on the 7.0, would have liked to have felt the "Oh sh!t" feeling 'cos then I could have beared away ![]()
This speed sailing lark is fun!
I don't think it got over 20kts. We weren't fast enough. I got 30.1 out of the computer for 100m, but the best thing was 34.4 N/miles travelled for the day. Not bad when we didn't even think of that side.
Ben sent the GPX file to Gestalt as I don't have your Email.
