Hit the water, but only got planing down the wave face. Haven't got an aqua-pac for my GPS yet, so can't see how slow I am...

They're thin on the ground around here!

How did you go at Golden Beach?

Also, can everyone who's in this team post, just to say Hi? It's a bit sad when the team captain doesn't know who else is in the team (except Gestalt).

Hi Nebs, real gusty today, I got 25.83 knots. I had my 8.0 on a 117 screamer. I need a bigger fin for it though , the biggest I've got is 38 and I was having to go real gentle on the fin or I would spin out. BCF in Maroochydore had a good selection of Aquapacs

Fitz, Maximus is in the team and myself. Must be quite big. He was on the water today at golden beach. and always keeps the GPS on. I was filming VRT at Scotts on his new wave kit. The only man alive who can plane such small kit in so little wind.

i found a new speed run, well actually it's a channel which runs down the middle of a sandbar.

it doesn't look much on google earth. i've been exploring round there a couple of times now. it is too shallow for the formula gear.

but today when i went there it was perfect. the run is 500m long. you would sail straight down the middle between the 2 banks. will work in a NE wind but in an ENE like today there is a bit of a shaddow effect.

it is very shallow. (maybe too shallow) so big KAHUNA's required. what isn't appreciated on google earth is that both banks are high and dry at low tide and the centre channel has water in it. i am not sure about the exit to the south?

because i am on the 70cm fin i stay west of the western bank and head towards redland bay. the water there is about 70cm deep, (i touched a couple of times) has a sand bottom and was like glass today. not even a ripple. but as i said, wind shaddow.

i've been talking this spot up to vando and this the first time i've really had a decent look at it. next time i'll walk it's length and get a true idea of it's depth.

i am thinking if it works i'll take dibs and refer to it as "THE FUNNEL" because the exit is narrow.

i still hve a couple of more spots to investigate yet. one of them is a 2km long bank which exposes at low tide.

Looks promising G, how much bank is exposed at low ie. how long each side of low would it work?
Near there is 27d 36m 16.88s, 153d 19m 43.93s might be worth a look.

And a few ks North is:- 27 30 05, 153 19 34 Peel Is. which a few of us have discussed that probably requires a boat out and back on big days. This bank should be a go (theoretically) N/E, N/W, S/E, S/W.

The 2km bank you mention sounds very interesting as well.

Looks interesting, I'll give it a go with my 31cm fin [}:)]

If it's blowing Saturday I'll come up and keep you company. Hopefully the slacker doing the GPS Team Challenge website will have put it online by then...

the first bank you've mentioned i have been keen to try for a while, but haven't gotten there yet. looks good too. i've seen guys sail it in a SE. it's one hell of a tack to get too.

i've windsurfed horseshoe bay (i think it's called) at peel. nice spot. flat water and crystal clear. i haven't been to the banks to the north and nor-west. but i guy i work with has and he reckons it's awesome. peel would have to be hell shark central.

oops forgot....

i need more time there to work out the tides. i was there about an hour before low. i reckon at full low it would be very shallow. i've sailed there at mid tide and it isn't exposed.

there is definately 500m of flat water. at dead low maybe 750m

i sailed up to the western bank cause the water was glassy and i thought cool. i'll blast along here. then about half way along realised a channel was in the middle. i went back a few time to have a better look and saw not enough water for the formula kit.

i uploaded a photo of my track from today. www.seabreeze.com.au/gallery/gallery.asp?imageid=4332
the white line is 500m.

Justin dont walk it, grab someones boat and sound it out with that. There are heaps of stingrays and other nasties down there which could put a big dint in you're sailing.

The peel bank is a pain to get to.

good call mk. but when i say it's shallow i mean maybe 50cm deep. could be deeper but it looked real shallow

anyone got a boat?

there is a post in the bank at one end to mark it out but at low tide both sides of the channel are exposed so it's not a problem to see.
