Like Hardie said, you're doing really well!
One tip for going faster: Sail downwind. Like, really downwind. Like, keep turning downwind until you can't feel the wind anymore... then just a bit upwind of this is the correct angle. You'll probably find yourself hanging off the back of the board, straight front leg, bent back leg, and a wicked smile on your face ![]()

I was hoping for more easterly, damn, had to work in the morning when it would have been nice and flat.
Really? Serious? I just gotta figure out how to download to my pc. Do I need an sp card? I tried without one and just bought one but haven't used it yet.
I KNOW I've been faster on the morning easterlies before my gps.

Conditions: Little inconsistent, took wind a long time to come in. All rigged big sails so wasn't that windy.
Equipment: 2004 7.0 Gaastra GTX, 2001 6.5 Neilpryde V8 (which is now destroyed after today and prity much a bin job), 2004 JP Freeride 158 and 2002 Naish Quatro 105.
Details about Self: Just 15 years old, about 65-70kg.
Comments: First time out with GPS, was prity happy with the time because it was not a fast day and no one there, even the fast blokes who have sailed for ages, went realy quick. Defently wasnt the slowest out there so i was happy. Not used to the new sopt, never been there before and was very different. Quite choppy to what i'm used to and directly horizontal to your board so quite difficult conditions to go fast in. Wasn't very much wind either hence me rigging up 6.5 and 7.0 even though i'm prity light.
Anyway good days sailing other than the fact i put a irepairable hole in my V8 and my dad put a HUGE dent in his JP board. Not really fast but happy for a first shot, and also considdering conditions.
Cheers
Bubs

Comments: Out at the speed strip at Viccy Point. Wind was a good direction for bearing off but the wind there seems a bit lighter than at Thomo's beach where I launched. I guess Macleay and Garden islands soak some of it up.
I should have rigged bigger but I'm not used to chasing speed, more into fun, and sailing over powered is for the most part a pain in the bum. But this bearing off in smooth water is different. It qualifies as fun. I must do some more. My immediate plan is to grow 20 cm taller, put on 30 kg n ... no. I'll clean up the fin a bit, stiffen the battens a bit and see what happens. (Cajones are adequate for these speeds)
Hey Notwal,
I've done 35 knots on my 5m Ezzy wavesail so speed sails aren't essential for going fast...
Rig big, lots of downhaul, bag the sail out. It feels like a big sack of potatoes but when you're going off the wind it's fast ![]()
Also put your harness lines back further than you normally have them, you want to sail along with lots of front hand pressure. This helps to prevent spinout at speed, which can be quite frightening...
And join the challenge, you know you want to ![]()
You're not fooling me in with your steenking lies nebbian. I know you are a dweebing geek n everyone knows they don't go fast. ![]()
Yesterday I went to the same place with the same gear and 5 to 8 more knots of wind and after applying your dubious tips I went SLOWER. You are a steenking lying geek and not to be trusted.
Actually, rudeness aside, I think I over did the downhaul. Ezzies don't like to be over-downhauled.
Yes I am a steenking dweeby geek but hey I've done 35 knots on my ezzy so ner ner ne ner ner.
Were you really bearing off? Like, not just sticking to the flat water near the bank but sailing stupidly broad?
I downhaul to the max recommended setting (crinkle goes all the way to the end of the swoosh) and put on about 2cm outhaul, your Ezzies might set a bit differently to mine though.
Basically take off outhaul until the sail feels really bad, CE wanders all over the place in gusts, and then you're in the zone. Sounds wrong but it works for me. But this only works when you're really bearing off...
It was a bit like that but none of that woosy stopping the crinkle at the swoosh business. This was macho downhaul. I took it all the way through to the luff. Outhaul was about 1 cm. I will try again with max recommended dh. That has always worked in the past. I think I will try and stiffen the battens though. Should be fairly easy. I'll let you know how it goes.
