Good to see the girls riding powerful waves...but cloudbreak looks a little bumpy and ugly today. Still way better than most locations.

The chicks are on at Restaurants - this should really show us which of the girls have balls especially as the tide runs out

I agree !!! So far it looks like 2-3ft wind blown and tough conditions. Very hard to throw your board around in conditions like that as you just get bounced off if you put too much gas on. Pottz is good but he still is a bit whimpy at calling it as he sees it - always very politically correct. Also he loves Sally more than anyone !!!

Hey has anyone here surfed cloudbreak? I've been thinking of going but have family in tow (wife and 2 young kids)...is it doable with the family? Keen to hear if anyone has any info.

Loads of options these days. You can get boats out from the mainland, stay on Namouto or Tavarua. Mainland boats arrive later in the morning and head home sooner so if you actually stay out at Tavs you still get the early morning to yrself and the evening final session. I have not been to Fiji for over 10yrs now but have loved my time there previously. Several friends go to Tavarua every year at the same time and absolutely love it. Fijians are lovely people and their baby sitting is second to none.

Hey bro if you stay on the mainland it can cost $100 fj a day to go for a surf and its a full day pick up early get home late so factor that in...if you stay on one of the islands closer to the waves it cost's a lot less plus the boats are going alot more often...its a fantastic place for kids and the Fijian people are awesome...we go every two years and stay at my father in laws time share in Denauru Island (meet Richie Macaw there last time)....have had fantastic waves with no one else in the water quite a few times...

Chicks are back out there - very windy and small Restaurants. A shame they are not out at Cloudbreak. Why put them out in 3 ft crap. So much for the dream tour.

Wow - these chicks are actually really going for it !!!! Hats off to them !!

Seems like the judges have under estimated the chicks here - they gave Sally such a big score initially and now have been forced to go big twice more. Personally I think Sally was well overs corded compared to Laura and Paige. Laura just killed it on that last wave.

Bit windy for Cloudbreak...those cross shore lumps at Restaurants would be twice the size out there

I have been trying to watch it all day. Rd4 heat 1 and yeah they are really have to fight the waves in all that wind Super cool to watch though, they are showing some real class..

I agree Sally got over scored. The waves really started to stand up in the last part of that heat. Im rooting for her though

Whats yr name - Trent Merrin ? Those American commentators are so useless that today they interviewed Sally about all the sports that she is into and how she loves Mark Webber and went to the Australian Open to watch one of idols Raffa - but they failed to mention that she loves leaguies and is actually dating one. Could have been an interesting interview - but again they blew it.

Tux - I hear ya - I was watching it for 15 mins and it looked small and crap - then some nice sets started to roll in

Its the Firewire thing

Not 100% sure about the last heat though I don't think that wave was 9.4

I just watched the replays and I must say that Laura now has my deepest respect after that display today. When its small she looks a little light, today with some grunt and chop she just went bonkers. Absolutely smashed it. Well deserved that heat win even if I thought that Paige did not get the roll of the dice. Best surfing of the day that wave Laura got.

After initially dishing the chicks a bit about this comp its fair to say I have completely changed my view on it now. They did very well - impressively so. I can not wait to see them back out there next year. They will charge even harder. I actually stopped driving yesterday and pulled over on the side of the freeway to watch the last 15 mins of the final - what the hell is happening to me

For me the final was a little of a let down from a few previous heats. Sally vs Mellia was also a good one. Sally got one of the best tubes and Mellia charging with a broken wrist , OMG

It was really good to see a few different names pop up in the mix, biggest respect for sure.

Interesting to hear Steph Gilmore talk about her short comings in big surf....it seems like since she was attacked at home her confidence has been totally shot....

For me Steph is very smooth and i love the flow she carries. I guess she should be happy with a final birth finish

Smart man is kelly....now,how much sway does he have with this zosea mob? Is this just a prelude to what will happen?

On the chicks they have been blowing me away for awhile, unlike you ted.....this year is just a step up again.

Tux on the confidence thing, well I think it makes a massive difference. I have suffered some horrific injuries through life and nothing ever fazed me. Just went on as normal. Yet after my fin chop, well my confidence was shattered. I would pull back from waves, look for the smaller ones etc.....the brain is a beast that is hard to master when it's not being your friend. Will be intresting to see how things pan out for steph.
