So KS down-trowed the poor fella - could not happen to a nicer bloke

Don't think I have ever seen a heat where the bloke who got the interference won the heat

Should have had a crack at making it

These are terrible waves. Absolutely crap. Such a lottery - no way for a world title to be decided IMHO.

Bring on Fiji and J Bay where the best surfer wins.

?WE?LL MAKE SURE THE BROADCAST IS BEST OF CLASS AND THE INTERACTION WITH FANS IS BEST OF CLASS AND WE?LL NEVER SACRIFICE ANY OF THAT FOR BAD WAVES.? ?CEO PAUL SPEAKER

Paul Speaker is CEO of Zosea owners of ASP tour and a bit of a fibber cause a lot of this event has been surfed in ****

2 wins from 5 starts for the Spartan...if he can get some more good results and avoid early exits like at Bells he might take it all the way...you knwo he only gets better in big lefts like chopes and Cloudbreak

Thats comp surfing for you Chrispy, not always dose the best man win and from experience most comps on the straight beaches on the GC are run in crap surf, hang around waiting 3 hours for your heat only for the wind to change and blow the crap out of it,been there done that, its a waste of a day imo, where you could be surfing better waves elsewhere. My old mate did very well in your comp the other day.

I like how they'd get a .2 for a paddle and get smashed, .64 if they get feet to board and get smashed.

Crazy stuff and i haven't yet watched the last few rounds but a few picks of that place are just crazy..The sweep is stupid crazy..

I cringed when poor Parko snapped his board, then took a beating next wave..

I read this morning they are putting the wins down to ultimate fitness in the two winners and i can see how that could be the case

MB now onto his home turf

I will add the bits I like....there has been some hell air drops and some.great hand drags from the takeoff to get into the tube. I do like seeing how they surf waves we do,like seeing them paddle against the sweep and bailing a board when that lip.was gonna land on them, even saw kelly do it. I like how they approach different waves, even the way they paddle for a wave, how they wait to pop up, or keep their chin super low to the board. All things I take on board. Am also loving them getting nailed and falling from turns....
I think I just like to see how they surf so I can pick up pointers to help me. You can see the ones who don't surf less than average waves though,it really showed to me...well I think it did

Oh the fox sport wooden desk is the biggest circle jerk I have seen...it's not the nfl

I agree 100%, the desk is especially ghey and what is with all the US commentators.

But as much as I like watching them in average conditions FFS ASP it's called the dream tour. Surely there is a better wave in Brazil they could hold it.

Anyway next few events should be good. Great to see Jbay back as an event, the big first turn of Bourez will be dangerous again.

Thanks for passing that on Captain. A great read thats for sure.

After watching the quarters and semis that morning - drove to work and missed the finals - I was completely shocked to receive a press release in my inbox saying

BARRA DA TIJUCA, Rio de Janeiro/Brazil (Monday, May 12, 2014): An epic Finals day at the Billabong Rio Pro and Rio Women?s Pro presented by Billabong saw Michel Bourez and Sally Fitzgibbons claim victory after a day of barreling waves at Barra Da Tijuca.

Jeepers - who are they farrrken kidding. Great article - really set it straight. This bit was pure gold - thanks for posting.

The waves weren?t marginal, nor contestable, it was plain horse****. But therein lay the beauty of it. It meant everyone was suddenly as mad as the lineup. All pre conceived notions of surfing were thrown out the window. Heat strategy: gone. Wave choice: gone. Form guide; check ya.
