What is a deterrent is the wheel marks in the beach from the recent attack at my local...the tracks have only been fully washed away on last nights high tide.
It was a chilling reminder each morning when I ran past them...for many others as well I can imagine, as I have seen only one swimmer in the water over the last week.
(Yes, the surf has been ordinary, but the swimming section of this beach normally has a few people enjoying the water daily)
I cannot imagine what Dale and others have gone through and still going through. Best wishes for all in recovery.
I am hopeful that the large amount of press, results in a sound and effective deterrent that we can all use, within the realms of commercial reality.
Certainly a deterrent will be great and deterrent it will be only, as I am too of the opinion having filmed and worked with sharks for many years...the only preventative measures are..don't go in the water!

Abalone diver off Port Lincoln SA was spooked by a 14 ft and an 18ft Great White the day before yesterday- thought all our whites were holidaying in NSW at the moment... seriously, one thing we can all be vocal about is shark cage diving 'experiences'- only experience is whites associating humans with food. I've posted before about this but a netted aquarium, featuring a variety of fish including tuna, has been given approval to be built off Granite Island at Victor Harbor. Will be about 2k from surf spots the dump, Chiton rocks and bullies. Aim? tourism/money- so people can dive in aquarium. The feeding of these fish will bring the sharks in- there are divers in Port Lincoln whose job is to repair holes in tuna pens made by sharks......

Yes I have seen the vid were the shark fought through the barrier but it didnt like being there.

For me the footage with Mick Fanning shows just how easily they can be deterred from biting. That shark IMO stopped biting him, only after getting slightly caught up in his leg rope. Imagine the same result but with a Electric pulse rammed up his nostrils..

The Mick Fanning meets shark was an encounter,if the shark wanted him it would have,hence no attack just a look.
Now I'm of the view that shark spotted the cameras and didn't want it to be used in a court case against it.
