So I dropped some coin on one of these in the 7'0 before I tripped across the Keyo.

www.sanctumsurf.com.au/castaway-twin-fin-glide-fish-eps-epoxy

Was wanting to get a Moonfish 6'10 but too long a wait.

Besides this one was nearly 1/2 the price, so it will be interesting to see how it rides.

Hydro,
I'm keen to hear what your thoughts are on the Sanctum.
They look good and are a great price
Are the Aussie made, can anyone advise?
Has anyone else here had any experience with them?
Looking at the reviews they seem to either get 5 stars or "don't touch"

Hi Gwatto,

I'll give you a heads up on how she rides once I've got her and had a few surfs.

As for aussie made that's what the boys told me when I spoke to them.

For me the shape looks good, not a wide in the nose as the Seaside and Beyond which is great because that thing just kept rail biting on our steep WA beach breaks, more designed for a rolling wave like in the Machado clips.

The only "concern" I have with the Sanctum is possibly the fins. It comes with the large flex tip twins which I loved in my Webber 6'10 double diamond, lots of drive and loose.

But hated in my Torq 6"10 mod fish, too much loose and little drive.

Could be diamond tail had more drive than swallow? Could simply be where the boxes placed the fins?

The Sanctum seems to have the boxes placed back towards the tail more, so I'm hoping this will give good drive but still pivot well when I step back.

If not then I'll mess around with some of noel salas HP Keels, or maybe have a crack at some S-Wings Twins. Just depends on if I want more drive or pivot?

But the overall shape, box positions, rail shape and foil, as well as the build quality and cost effectiveness hooked me over the boutique offerings in the Christiansen and Moonshine boards.

Fun days ahead, watch this space.

Hydro

The Seaside and beyond's nose is just fine for steeper drops. Commitment and placement required is all.

Good to hear yours is working for you CF. I just couldn't gell with mine at all.

It just felt all wack and no matter how far back I weighted my drops and turns the rail grabbed on every second wave.

It will be interesting to see how the Sanctum Castaway goes in comparison.

Awesome work Locky24, there is a great sense of satisfaction from riding your own boards
Question - is the palm tree art work material? Either way it looks good.

In May 1966, I bought a used 7'7" deep V bottom diamond tail, 23" wide.
It replaced my 10" Oneill Intruder.
By July, I was riding my self made 6'1"x22"x3' square tail.

Good stuff!
I started shaping and glassing in 1966.
Ended up at 200+ from home and another 150 for Wise Surfboards.
It's great to try all your designs within 3 days.
Keep up the good fun!

Excellent post with another photo, I was hoping for another photo of bottom rocker line & guessing thruster set up?
Yes the material makes great artwork.
Suggestion would be to come up with logo and name to put on your boards as will increase your resell value.
What is # 30 shape?
Cheers

I'm a late starter... didn't pick up a plainer till I was 41.
but totally enjoy it. Did my first few in a pop up marquee in the backyard. Then built my little bay.
I shape and glass in the same area which is a hassle, but it works.

VERY nice shape!
VERY nice job.
Glassing. Just light vacuum and you're ready.
Sand outdoors, preferably at a deserted beach.

Funny, I'm only a few km's south. Often surf on my own in the beachies.

Your right Mac. Quite a few locals who would have been out front driving to more populated breaks. On one occasion I did get out the back and see a lot of bait fish and bailed straight back in again but otherwise I have just applied the "Shark Eyes" and stripes and still surfing out front with a few other stalwarts. Quite a big gutter atm so the bank is a long way off the beach which doesn't help.

I hope this doesn't come back to haunt me.
