Agree the mote look great. The mct El Verde look alright too.
Saw a bloke ripping on one of these at a local reef yesterday. Not really my thing but looks like a decent option for the ageing shortboarder or someone wanting to take a more performance approach to midlength riding.

Love this design, for me a toss up between this and the Cosmic Twin.
I think the chilli wins though with versatility in design.

Yes it looks very versatile.
I'm loving the mid twins though. The Chilli I saw was set up as a thruster so the bloke was in that "locked and loaded" thruster stance (he's a very competent shortboarder). If I'm riding a mid I much prefer moving around on them, trimming and adjusting from the middle etc. I think it's all part of the fun of riding a midlength. Single with sides or a Cuttlefish twin/trailers set up on the Chilli could be fun though. Be warned, the Chilli gets zero "Hipster cred" compared to the Cosmic Twin though![]()
I was just thinking this morning before going for a paddle I'd write a response about the Chilli midlength versus the twins and the 2+1's with the different approaches to riding them and them providing different feels which can suit one's previous boards but Toobz has already nailed it.
100% agree in regards to how mid lengths can be enjoyed, the glide and trim with good paddle power is what I like, some side bites or a twin are handy when you need some grip but even then some super tiny side bites gives me that with the same cruisy feeling.
Wonder who's selling their Tajen 7'?

Yeah the cosmic is the buzz for me, just something about that shape and the triple stringer that sets it apart.
Joel can even set her up as a Cosmic Quad for me.
Having said that I tried my Webber Diamond as a quad on the weekend and was dissapointed, not so much in the quad performance but that I have gotten so used to the feel and flow of the twin I was dialed into that and craved it more.
Only got a couple of waves and dropped quads for my trusty big flex twins, they carve and drive through a bottom turns and cutbacks like butter.
P.S I'm not a hipster, think more Mikey Wright bogan mullet but with a Santa beard ;-)

I have a 6'10 hydro with the glassed on keels as well- it would go really well with a mullet

Board sounds nice though, would ride way better with a beard.
Gives you line up cred even if you kook it.
That aside what's she ride like?
I'd love to try a 6'8 at around 45L with futures boxes set up for twin or quad. Single concave into double through the tail and a vee.
And most of all triple stringer. If it's a retro look nothing speaks louder than the triple stringer.
Just need to find a couple of G to get it made.
I have been on my 8ft Vish the last few days with a set of these: www.s-wings.surf/en/produit/twin-520-red-carbon/
Incredible combination, I would like to try the power fins one day as well..... I am starting to regret ordering my 6"10 with glass on keels- it seemed like a great idea at the time!

Errrr....why?
What twin fins do you have in the Webber?...I forgot.
Ran a set of Futures EN twins with nubsters in the rear quads on my 7'6" Millsy yesterday morning. Normally I have ridden it with Sanctum flex twins which feel amazing. The EN's although a great twin template for me in other boards didn't give the board the loose but drivey feel of the Sanctums. I really love those fins in the board. A case of the right fins elevating the feel of the board to, "Oh yeah!"
After that paddled out on the Sunova 8'er with its Modii twins and small bonzer runners in the rear quad plugs. After surfing it with the Asher Pacey twins and bonzer runners yesterday it was a case of a small difference in fin template making a huge difference in how well the board surfs.

I run the Sanctum large blue Futures base in the Webber and they are amazing.
That is all I have run apart from some nubster semi quad or tri setups which felt a lot stiffer and detracted from the drive and looseness of the twins.
Those Sanctums are the ducks nuts twin for me and take the board to the "oh yeah" level for me, but I'm working off a very limited comparison base to the Carbon Jet with the MODII twins. That felt good, but the big blues in the Webber are next level.
I imagine it would feel very similar to your Millsy with them in it.
Just really curious on the things like the AUFIN, Sfin, Powerdrive and Quoba designs, a lot of talk about the lift, hold, drive and release of these designs, but never backed up from an engineering perspective or from any test work.
I can see merits in the claims attached to all of them, when explained from a static perspective of a fin going in a straight like, however from a dynamic perspective of velocity differentials, surface flow effects, angles of attack and release, foil shape, rake, base width hold and drive etc.
Well that becomes a very subjective conversation with measurement based on how they "feel" and surf.
Knowing the difference that alternative fin setups can make in the boards I have ridden only leaves me curious how different designs effect the whole dynamic of the board, a sentiment not lost on many surfing greats who attribute over 50% of a boards performance to getting the fins right, or the right fins.
And for the average punter with the amount of choice that exists in both fins and board shapes this presents an opportunity for discovery and fun.
Hence why I expect you have a reputation for churning through boards and multiple fin options and combinations. A journey of discovery to find the right mix of geometry to suit the conditions and style of surfing that you desire.
Keep it up, and keep giving us updates on how different combinations work for you because I find that sort of thing immensely fascinating.
And while we are talking fins ........... again.
I prefer the twins, or quads even for the paddle as much as the ride.
A not often considered aspect of how fins affect your wave selection and ultimately wave count.
For instance on my last two surfs I picked up late take offs on ripper waves of the day because of the twins.
On the weekend I was sitting a good 3 to 5 m further out than most, a screamer popped up out of nowhere as they do where I surf and I had to do a dash out another 5 m to be in the right spot. I got there late, just as the wave was cresting to break and I was facing around 45 deg out.
But having the looseness of the twins allowed me to pivot the nose around and pick up the wave under the lip. A very late drop with lots of speed and sadly a big closeout.
But if it had held a face it would have been an awesome drop and bottom turn into an emerald tunnel.
Wave aside, the twins (or quads) allow you on a longer than short board to pivot much quicker for the paddle in.
Depending on your wave selection I have found this to be a very big advantage for me in picking off waves that I would have otherwise missed out on with a single, 2 + 1 or even a tri.
Disclaimer first, I don't really like twins. Quads are good in wide fishes other than that I'm usually in the 2+1 camp it suits me and what I grew up riding. Don't mind singles either..
But with 2+1 Depends were you have them set up, a tight cluster on a 2+1 will give you a short turning radius.
If you space them further apart you get a longer arc.
Also depends on what sides and centre you use. Changes the variables change the way they behave massively.
Personally I don't fins affect wave catching at all.
Bloke around loved a no paddle take off under the lip on his single. Just sinks it down and uses the pop to catch waves.

Agree, singles, 2+1 all good in the right conditions.
Where I catch waves it's the quick or the dead, most times a peak that allows one maneuver followed by a close out.
Gotta get in early and fast and have the board set up loose but with good hold, the twin set up fit's the bill exactly for me.
I see a lot of guys my age out there on mids from mid 6' through to 8', most set up as singles or 2+1 as is the current trend.
Yeah they get in early, but slow pop and having to walk down to the back to get the nose to pivot around the single ......... bang, closed out before you even find the face.
Having never really ridden twins before their nimbleness was a mind blown moment. When I first started back on the Cjet I had it set as a 2+1 and every friggin wave got away from me, constantly chasing the face in the foam ball.
Whacked in the quad set up and light bulb moment, speed went up and I could get out of the foam ball.
Whacked in the big twins set up and mind blown, I could take off across the face with even more speed and out run the foam ball.
And these big suckers with their broad base gave plenty of drive and hold, only ever sketchy in the pit if I'm too far forward. Lettin loose but then biting again and very predictable.
So for me the fins have made a massive difference to the kind of waves I will even go for, or for how deep I will attempt the take off.
I can now sit out further and closer to the peak rather than waiting for scraps on the shoulder. last weekend I was at a reef break and a good 5m deeper than anyone else, able to pick off what would not normally be considered because of the ease of paddle, early pick up, and maneuverability.
Have never been able to catch waves like this since I was a 45kg grom on a big single G&S gun in the late 70's. And the big difference is that I can now steer my current board, the G&S was a straight hander down the face waiting for that big heavy lean into a bottom turn.
I have a 6'10 hydro with the glassed on keels as well- it would go really well with a mullet

Well I proved it again.
A beard, a santa style grey beard no shorter than 1.5" gives lineup cred.
You know those paddle in's where given you've got more foam under your belly on a mid you have picked up the wave, only to then have a shorty spin around inside you and take off late. All without even an Oi to let you know they are on?
Had that happen on the weekend, paddled back out and the guys is fuming and cussing me out.
So paddle right up to him and his whole attitude changed from pissed off to saying sorry dude I'll catch a wave in and get out of your way.
Long story short we ended up having a decent chat, told him that if he wasn't gonna call on with an Oi that I would take the wave every time, had too many go begging because insider pulled back, besides I technically had the wave first.
So what are your takes on this situation? Who has the call on the wave if a longboard or midlength has it first only to have a shorty pull inside you?
Also has anyone tried these fins?
