gath also good for winter warm and ear infection.

Some extra warmth is nice.
I wonder if I can still wear my ear plugs whit a Gath helmet, I have to push them back in sometimes...

Do you all have the Gath SFC?

I had both eva and sfc and I prefer the eva. The sfc is rounder shape inside and out.

I tried the XL SFC, it was too small...

Yes I wear a Gath all the time surfing. Large in the summer and XL in the winter over my hood. Well made, light and seem indestructible.

Ok. Need some advice. Foiling on and off over the last 8 months but hitting it hard over the last 2. Up and having controlled flights in the waves on a Takuma 7'10 139 litre board with a budget Gong foil. I find the Takuma super stable with the foil, even in chop. Looking to get a shorter board to take things to the next level. The JP 7'0 looks the ticket but concerned about dropping from 139 litres down to 115. I am 85kg and an intermediate SUPer. Only been SUPing for 12 months after years of surfing. Only changed to the SUP to allow me to foil. My usual SUP is a 130 litre Pocket Rocket. What do you guys think? I am in the UK so wearing a 6/5/4 suit at the minute and have no access to a demo board. I would be looking to get a large NP foil as well. Would be interested to hear your thoughts? Hope to try flat watering a mates 105 litre SUP to get an idea of the volume. Thanks in advance
ps Thanks for the great review Piros

Weight wise you are fine for the 7-0 plus switching to the NP Large foil you will get more stability from the larger wing and wider mast . Don't be worried about the litres , 115 is plenty for you at 85kg + wet suit. I'm very close to your weight and the 6-8 at 96 litres floats me fine . Remember the foil acts as a keel . The board will be a bit more tippy than what you are used to but you quickly get used to that and it will feel so much more balanced in flight. Having heaps of excess litres on a foil board can actually make it harder to balance , sitting just that bit lower in the water with less foam does make it easier to paddle around on.

Thanks for the helpful advice Piros. Have been looking at a number of boards and the JP stands out. Not that keen on going sub 7'0 at present. The board and large NP foil do look a great combo.

Good stuff and I wasn't suggesting go sub 7-0 just saying me at 83kg the 6-8 floats me above the water line .

I wonder if you wouldn't be better off just switching to foil surfing, not foil SUPing then?
This would allow to drastically reduce the in flight weight, with immense benefits, but at the price of a new learning phase...

My JP Foil 7'0 and NP Glide Large Foil arrived, assembling it right now.
Should I use the assembly grease that I use for my mountain bike to screw it together or should I get some special grease?

The screws to attach the foil to the board are very short really annoying!
They are 25 mm long and should have been 32 mm long. like the screws that attach the wing to the fuselage.

The board came with 2 foot straps btw...

The bolts are Titanium plated to reduce corrosion but I still use thread tape and Tef Gel or a marine grade lube. I've left my bolts in for weeks with no issues doing that . Yes the boxes are deep and the bolts only just reach , I replaced mine with hex head ones 5mm longer. Also on the 7-0 I put a washer under the rear bolts on the plate just to get the mast perfectly plumb to the deck. If you move mast forward in boxes it doesn't need it but I generally set it half way so back of mast is flush front of kick on the deck . Good news about the straps .

Thats what I thought, 30 mm screws are much better its M8 isn't it?
Are they for a 5 mm allen key?
And what are they made of? I could get titanium ones just like my bike...

The marine grease is not easy to get here in Capetown unfortunately....but i really have to get some tomorrow...

Yes M8 thread & 5mm Allen head , thread tape on its own is fine for now.

You can also remove the rubber pad. I did. I like my foil mounted tight with zero flex.

Please pardon my ignorance, why use both tefgel & thread tape - wouldn't just one or the other suffice ?

The tape just helps seal it and stop the water from getting in but Tel Gel is fine on it's own. I rarely pull mine apart as it fits in the back of my car fully assembled to my board so I when I do pull it apart I always reapply both. Better safe than sorry and I've never had an issue doing it this way.

That will also make it easier to attach the foil to the board with screws that are too short !

I replaced all the torq screws with allen. Reason for me, is my wrenches always rust. But I can buy stainless steel allen wrench, but cannot buy stainless steel torq wrench

Wera stainless steel Torx screwdrivers and bits au.rs-online.com/web/c/?sra=oss&r=t&searchTerm=wera+stainless+torx

Bondhus tools aren't stainless but the Proguard finish doesn't rust. I use the ball end hex t-handles for quick assembly then a Wera stainless bit in a ratchet driver for final tightening. I use these tools almost every day for the past few years.

I've just ordered some Torx screws and a bit to try them out. The foil hex screws last ok, but the phillips footstrap screws get chewed out too quickly.

Hey up. Ive got a JP 7' which is working out great for me 5'11" 12 stone. I was riding 108 ish L SUP's before and find this more stable with the foil (Naish L ). I'm in the UK in Pembrokeshire if you are anywhere near, you're welcome to have a go. FWIW I can get away with a thinner wettie SUPping / foiling compared to prone surfing, but if you're in the N sea you need all the rubber you can lay your hands on.

Matt at the SUP Hut in Swansea stocks these and has loads of knowledge /experience that he's happy to share. Definitely worth a visit of chat.

Good to hear the JP 7'0 is working out for you Mwstard. Thanks for the offer of a trial. Down in Cornwall but also spend time in the far North hence the thick suit. A few local guys getting into foiling but it is still very early days here.
Bought my present board from Matt.
Think I was interested in your converted Naish Hokua but decided not to go with it in view of the volume. Certainly a lot more to choose from board and foil wise in the last 6 months.
If you are planning a trip down South let me know. There are a few good spots down here.

My first session yesterday
My JP/NP toy doesn't fit in my Ford Mondeo station wagon, I put it on the roof rack for now, lots of downforce!
You really have to be careful going in and out of the water even when the waves are small
Balancing is very different compared to my 7'2 x28@105liter Hypernut , it feels a bit corky but the foil gives some extra different kind of stability.
I had the foil to far forward at first, moving it 2 cm to the rear was a big improvement....
I am used to move back once I have caught a wave but with the foil you have to stay where you are it seems.
I was airborne only for a few second at the most but hope I will get the hang of it.

The Medium wing is in stock now I was told, I wonder if I should get it or keep on using the Large only for a few months?

As I said in my video start with the foil further back in the tracks , that large wing has tons of lift . Stay with the large it makes flights very easy at slow speeds, you will get used to it. The ideal spot it back of mast is flush with front of kick on deck. Your whole paddle centre will change as you get used to using the foil as a keel for balance again you will get used to it. Have you had a chance to get towed behind a boat of jet ski that really speeds up the learning curve .
No problems putting it on the roof rack rigged up it's not as much force as you think , everyone drives around here with them on the roof . Just remember it's there when you get home parking in the garage.
Keep at it you'll get it and pick your days with small clean fat waves are best.

After viewing your review another time I went out with the back of the mast in line with the front of the kickpad.
But the wind picked up and the waves were shoulder high and messy, no airtime today..

I am also interested in the Medium wing for strapless windsurfing and for my 20 yo 140 lbs daughter who wants to have a go at supfoiling..

I am thinking about installing the footstraps on my 7'0 Foil.
I bruised my ribs in my 4th session

I just don't know which holes to use...Back footstrap as much to the back???And the front?

Put the the back strap all the way back and diagonally mount the front one mid way and just keep it loose see how that goes and adjust from there.

That is what I did but the back footstrap still seemed to be too far forward..When peddling for a wave I was in the front footstrap and behind the back footstrap.
I always paddle for a wave in surf stance, feet a little more than 2 feet apart but I found out I am not exactly on the centerline of the board and the footstraps will help with that.
I windsurf for 30 years and have 25 years experience with footstraps but still I managed to damage 4 footstap holes, the screw won't hold in them anymore.
The footstrap screws are quite short and not very thick and the plastic of the inserts is very soft.
