Second session on the Foil. Waist to shoulder high waves that wouldn't all break. Most started to peak but wouldn't break. Swapped the large rear wing for the medium rear.
The first hour was quite difficult trying to get onto waves that just wouldn't break enough to get going.
I just concentrated on surfing only by keeping the nose down. Then got onto a few with just an upward twitch. The foil rose no problem but still I wasnt quick enough to point the nose level or back down until into my second hour. Then the riding started! Yay!
The best waves caught were the ones that broke with the whitewash receeding as the wave was re building.
Got a few more longer rides & found this foil more stable than my Slingshot H4. And much more lift that was the hardest for me to get used to. Lol.
But the good rides I had blew me away & had me ****ten when the foil got up high enough for me to think it was going to breach any second now. So high in fact I was sure the wing would have just been below the surface by just a few mills. But I kept the board level with the surface & at times pushed the nose down when going down the swell before hitting the shore break & kicking or turning out. Loved it!
Looking forward to my next session.

Just had my 1st session prone & kite on my large with small rear. Very easy to waterstart with the kite riding strapless - as it floats on it's side but only got onto 1 wave prone...that's going to be a challenge.

Yes this Foil has tons of instant lift so best to slide it back in the tracks to start . Surf with an Allen key in your pocket and bump it forward when you get used to it . You also could put one of the washers supplied under the rear bolt on the back wing this will reduce lift a bit. The foil is really fast compared to the H4 so will feel strange at first but you will settle in pretty fast .

Very interesting thread!
I'm looking at upgrading from my SS H4 and this looks like a better option than just buying a new SS wing.
Can anyone tell me where I can see one in Perth (Rockingham) area or are they only ordered on line?
If this is the case, does anyone know;
- The best website?
- the price with shipping?
- how long for delivery?

I have looked on line and written to the email on the site but they said they would reply within 10 days! I'm hoping one of my learner friends on Seabreeze will be a bit quicker.

Thanks all.

Exactly right Piros. Faster than the H4. Put my foil all the way back too. I noticed when going straight. Left the wave for dead a few times which had me stall & drop before the white wash caught up. Or I would surge forward a good distance but still have enough speed to lift off again & just kept going.
Still got to try controlled turns. Did one accidently in the right direction so went with it & had me bail out of a shore dump. Acted if I did it on purpose. Lol!

Contact kiteboarding or windsurfing shops that sell Cabrinha kites, JP Australia windsurf boards, or Neil Pryde sails. These shops should have the foils.

Neil Pryde is not known for foils, so they can be hard to find, at least until more people learn about their existence

soooo confused - so many options.

Long time windsurfer and have been wave SUPing for the past 10 years.

I have towed behind a boat and windsurfed the Naish 120 ('17 version) in a straight line only.

Will the JP Foil Slate & NP Wing cover both and if so, which set up for 5'10" / 175 pound rider?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Neil Pryde have been doing wind foils for quiet some time and Cabrhina one of its companies has been doing kite foils for many years and I'm surprised Cabrhina hasn't released a surf version.

The wind foil guys are now actually using the NP glide small surf wing which is same size as the Go Foil Kai. The medium would probably be better if you want to do both wind /Sup foil . The large would be too much on the wind foil unless it was super light breeze.

I'm windsurfing the large NP foil with Naish LIFT sails 5.7m and 4.7m. It is great. It is fast for a huge wing.

btw, huge wings work wonderful windsurf wave riding. Windsurfers have a lot of rig weight compared to surfers, so the big wing really makes foil SURFING a windsurfer possible.

Just be aware, it needs tracks moved up somewhat. It's not suited for windsurfers with foil mounted right on tail. I think the Naish hover boards have the tracks mounted forward enough to work well

if the slate has a mast mount, it would be a blast to windsurf, I'm sure of it. I have a mast track on one of my SUP foil boards.

Just as kiters went to surf foils, windsurfers are discovering surf foils.

Its crazy how it all works so well.

Yes, it's really amazing how SUPfoiling and Wavewindfoiling are merging together right now.
I tried my SS FSUP for windfoiling and it's fun riding waves with it but i find it harder to ride (more instable) than my regular, dedicated Aeromod windfoil, because of the shorter mast and fuselage.
Do you use the NP Glide Surf or Wind (longer mast + fuse) for Windfoiling?

Do you think the NP Glide WIND (longer mast + fuse) will also work for Supfoiling with a L or M wing?

I don't find any difference in stability between a proper windfoil (I used to windfoil Horue) and the NP surf large with large tail wing. With small tail wing, yes...less stable.

I do ride strapless with all forms of foiling, so my feet are free to be where it's stable and surfy.

Here's a quick video of the NP medium wing in action , this thing is insane . I was doing 32 knots behind the boat on the way out in the river . This thing is so smooth and stable . I definitely won't be getting the small now the medium just handels excess speed so well.

Nice Piros. Now that's fast!
Just wondering how that wing would go on a 7ft 115 litre paddleboard.
Had my NP Large, medium tail out today in shoulder high peaky waves but sloppy water with whitewash hitting deeper water. Whoa! Nice rides. Still learning to balance but forgot to test the turns when under control due to wanting to get the longest rides. Lol.
Compared to the Slingshot H4? Better stability, more lift & higher speed.
Definitely a good choice.
Not sure if I would really need the medium wing unless for head high or larger waves in which I would go surfing anyway.

I was thinking about how best to describe how foils ride different today.

Truck tires! Some are like my favorite set of Michelins. Quiet, and so smooth my van drives like a Rolls Royce. Haha. Other tires make it drive like a van.

Same with wings.

Neil Pryde is my Rolls Royce.

Thanks Piros

Great video. The camera perspective really shows off the wave, rider and speed of the ride. Almost like being there. More rides like that and you will have us all wanting to learn to foil!

cheers

Yeah just stick to Large front and rear for now then change to the smaller rear. You will notice a big difference in stability straight away with smaller rear , it's a lot more twitchy but turns much harder and is faster . At first it's a bit harder to pump but once you get used to it you will actually pump faster. Switch to the medium wing from shoulder to head high.

FRP/ Bob :- Thanks mate it was the first tow session on that wing felt just amazing . That Garmin cam is pretty amazing hey . I prone paddled the same set up next morning at Kirra in shoulder high waves heaps of fun.

32knots is fricken crazy fast Most kite foilers ( like myself) will never get to that speed. if this wing can handle that much speed it could make an amazing cross over wing.

How would you rate it in terms of carving? Is it more locked in or is it easy enough to carve?

I am really considering this as a cross over setup for kite and sup, the fact you can get a complete foil plus an extra wing for the same or less as the other main competitors charge for a setup with 1 wing is very attractive

That's 32 knots flat water ,wouldn't attempt it for a second in the chop . It's the tightest turning foil I have ridden yet especially when you have the small rear on. Haven't kited it yet but leaving on a big trip in a couple of days and will kite it for sure . I'll keep you posted. The extra wide mast feels really comfortable in the turns as it's a larger area to lean on taking the pressure off the wing .

Very interesting thread!

Does anyone have some advice or experience regarding the most suitable size NP surf foil wing for some crossover sup and lightwind windsurfing... Looking at a 6'8 crossover board perhaps... Probably more sup surf to begin and learn and more downwinding and windsurf later on... I'm 65kg...

Do I go the large front wing? Will the 2 sets of rear wings give me enough tuning for sup and windsurf or is the large wing just too big to windsurf?

Or go a medium wing but is it too hard to learn on sup?

I know ideally two front wings would be ideal and I know I'm asking a lot for one setup to do it all, but just maybe for now?!
I can only afford one wing for now.
Thanks in advance ??

I own the NP large and medium. I kite, windsurf, and SUP them.

The large is my choice for windsurf and SUP, with large rear wing.

I use the medium with kite, and on larger days, with SUP.

I'm 84kg.

hanza111, at 65 kg, probably, medium is all you need.

Would like to see some pics for a NP foil cover. I would like to see a main wing cover & a cover for an assembled fuselarge & tail wing.
Oh , and a cover for a mast.
