Thanks for that :-). Any suggestions the best place to source a hot knife and for that matter your material, thread and zipper? As is usual prices seem to vary wildly :-(.
I bought the hot knife off Ebay.

The Weathermax came from these people.

Thread and needles came from Sairite but took 6 months to get here. I would use eBay next time!
SS D rings and various size webbing and clips are all from eBay. 20mm PVC pipe from Bunnings. I'm not using zips, they don't last well and after replacing two on Ramona I switched to clips instead of the zip. Sail slides and leather I just had laying about in my sail room.
Hi Ramona
I am thinking of making a new main bag and would like to get rid of the zipper. It is always the first thing to be replaced and is a bit of a pain when it gets a little old. How did you do clips? With a sort of double breasted suit arrangement? I think an alternative to zips sounds great.

The stack pack on Ramona had a zip for about the first 3rd, the rest was open but the sun was kept out by tying the two PVC pipes together and keeping tension on the lazyjacks. I'm doing the same on this one. I cut off the zip and replaced that area with 50mm blue seat belt material on both sides. Then stitched 25mm webbing with clips across about 200mm apart and the blue webbing acting as a flap. In practice, it is easier to do up compared with wrestling with a zip.
I'm planning on sewing the flaps on the new one this afternoon but this time I will sew the 50mm webbing underneath the Weathermax and allow for the overlap to get the double-breasted arrangement. It's more critical on this boat as the boom height of the deck would make using a zip a pain without a step ladder.
I'm also not using any cringles or anything else that is likely to fail. I'm using a fair bit of webbing and SS D rings so that this goes on the boat and won't need touching for 25 years!
Finally fitted the new engine, installed 400amp lithium battery and new charger, new start battery, new prop shaft pss seal, new exhaust system, re-design of engine beds, new windows fixed wiring problems from previous owners and installed 400watt inverter.
Blues Banned is a new girl I get 7.5 knots from the new engine

Love your work
Brew break this morning. Just showing off my new curtain. Dell monitor in portrait.

That's nice Ramona, that would be my favourite spot in the boat.
I've been trying to learn CGI in my spare time, so have been learning what makes objects or imagery appealing. If you threw a Fibonacci curve over this I can see why this looks so good.

You architect guru you.

Would love to see a picture
Looks nice Ramona.
When you can I would also love a pic of the cover. Thanks for the description. I like your Dell monitor. Is it just a computer monitor? Does it run off 12 volts? Off a Pi?

Not sure if Fibonacci Curves work too well with charts :-)

The monitor is a 20-inch 4x3 computer monitor, 240v running off an inverter. There is a Leveno Thinkpad running windows 10 just above the keyboard.
I've got a couple of hours left in the stackpack to go. Should finish today so I'll put a photo up later. Probably 15 hours of labour for an amateur. Easy to see why they cost so much from sailmakers.

This is the bottom of the stack pack. Loose footed main so the slugs sewn onto 75mm webbing just slide in the track. No conduit in this shot.

This just laying on the side with the conduit temporarily in place. 4 D rings for the lazyjacks each on 25mm webbing. The rear D ring attaches with a line to the topping lift. The front around the mast is open to let the air circulate. The gap at the rear is for the reefing lines.
The camera angle makes it look rectangular, it's not

This is the top showing the flap and clips. This goes back about a third of the way. The rest is held together by the conduit and when leaving the mooring to go home a line is used to tie it together along with the halyard. I leave the halyard attached and it's held clear of the mast with the same bit of line attached to the SS ring near the second D ring.

I tacked the lot together with a longlife outdoor polyester blue thread. Then sewed the lot with Sairite's Black PTFE Lifetime thread. Not sure whose lifetime they are talking about.
The black thread shows up in the photos but in my sail room, it's damn hard to see on the Captain Navy Weathermax!

There is 50mm webbing under the Weathermax along the flaps. Yes, I will finish off the rope with a hot knife.

You've gotta be happy with that - certainly looks the goods!!
I'd be a bit worried about the ends being open. I get swallows making their nest in mine so I have to fill all the open bits with netting.
Do you get swallows down your way??

Awesome job thanks for the pictures :-)
Exciting, just ordered a new Genoa.... previous one while ok, and usable, needed the UV strip needed replacing (bit kept falling off), and a vac wash, which was almost the same cost as this brand newy over stock item...absolutely perfect sizing too, and get it in a week!! Crispy New sail!!! #spoiltmooringminder

Been a bit of a saga. Inverter died shortly after buying the boat, finally got the replacement up and running tonight. Still have to install the new battery monitor and shunt. Racing windsurfers tomorrow and taking Wapiti for a sail Sunday so looks like a job for next week after work.

Looks good. So where do you source these overstock sails?

Thanks. Followed them for a while but never had anything my size.
Lazyjacks and stackpack in place. Mainsail is still on the sewing table but is ready to reinstall. Boom strut is just sitting there while I work out the adjustment once the main goes back on. Aries will be adjusted for height the next day or so. That green boat over the bow is a centre cockpit Roberts 34.

Looking marvellous since I last worked on her 15 or so years ago. A credit to you.
Lord Howe next year???

This one will take a few years to finish!

I will probably go past Lord Howe on a cruise ship again next year.
