Yes that's the one. Good value though a little light on sail handling fittings/gear.

Would be interesting to find what the inboard is, and what's wrong. I don't know anything about these as far as yachts, would like to see more inside photos... maybe a project for someone

One of the better half-tonners. I reckon the engine would be a YSM12 same as in this half tonner.

Both those 1/2 toners where glamour boats in the day.
Cost of repower is so cheap now you would just do it.
Think I paid $11 400 for the 28 hp Venus with all the hoses, strainer, fuel filter, filler lock and pong box and coupling and mounts all thrown in the deal at the time with Defiance

Amazing looking boat here: www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/bundall/sail-boats/duncanson-33-racing-cruising-yacht/1276700885. Seems to be a one off, but a great mix of racing & cruising. Some more photos on this listing for it boatdeckwebsites.com.au/yb/listing/duncanson-33-3/

Think it's priced a little high though, given what you can get for around the $40k mark. Hard to say as I've literally never seen one of these for sale before.

Unfortunately about 1500 kg over design weight
quite nicely built but way over weight with all the gear too heavy
never really got up and went

Oh really? Like I said, I've never seen the design before at all. Do you know of any other ones about the place? Anytime I search on duncansons, I only find other, more cruise oriented designs. You'd think that if they're going to the effort of water ballast etc, there'd be loads of weight saving done. I was sorta surprised to see a full galley & lounge belowdecks.

Looks like it'd need a fairly extensive electrics/electronics refit too.

This will get people going.
These do not have an AVS of 90 or greater ie less than 90 degrees depending on rig weight

So is it the boat or how we measure AVS?

Now we are talking! That is a seriously well fitted out Tophat and worth the money. The standing headroom will make all the difference.

Now I'm on the right track lol..it's definitely over engineered for Sydney inner waters but I guess that's not a bad thing.
I'm 6ft so indeed, that headroom is perfect as well :) thanks Ramona I've lowballed the seller with my maximum offer will let you know has fast the reply of 'no!' comes back to me

The furling head sail and all the reefing lines back to the cockpit is actually what I would consider the bare necessities for single handed sailing [or sailing with a wife etc] even in Sydney Harbour. The anchor winch is a bit over the top for a 25 footer but shows that the previous owner did not scrimp on fitting out.

Agreed, I did actually want all lines running back to the cockpit if I did get a yacht

Now I've found this one:

www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/4417054438323109/?ref=facebook_story_share

Which was sold last year for $4k less via Grays
www.grays.com/lot/0001-10080148/sail-boats/circa-1986-24ft-pacific-707-yacht

Comes with mooring in Gladesville however boat rego has run out 6 days ago. Current owner has put a new motor in it as well (new, not sure how 'new')

This via Facebook from the current owner:

'Yes the motor starts easily, the sails and all rigging are about 15 years old in reasonable condition'

Thoughts?

These are just Southerly 23 hulls. The outboard is excellent but way too big. Boat is overpriced!

Yep, put this one at the top of your list for sure!
Even you you pay a little more now, it'll be nowhere what you'll pay bringing the TB up to anywhere near the same as this. More space, more headroom, more everything....

Yes I think a bit if the running/standing/rigging + sails will need to be replaced at that age?

Go and see him and the boat.Tell him your predicament and that you love his boat. Write up a simple option contract. You pay him 4000 now for the option to buy it for 2000 anytime in the next 4 months say. Explain to him that if you fail to come up with the extra 2000 he keeps the 4000 which pretty much assures him that you will go through with it and meanwhile it stays in his name. Then you come to a separate agreement to lease it for a dollar for the next 4? months. Presumably he has it insured. Options are often used in real estate and of course shares not to mention many other things. If you are short of money you do not want one that you have to fix up. It is far far cheaper to buy one with everything you need on it and already in the condition that you want. Take a look at the price of things on the internet such as anchors, rope, sails, turning blocks, winches and antifouling paint...

Hi Jules, I'd played around in my head with exactly that plan since seeing tge yacht and after your post I might give it a crack today, after all it's only $2500 more. Do you think take the TH MK3 over the Pacific 707?
FYI as I mentioned, sails + rigging on the TH MK3 is 10-15 years old!

The Tophat is twice as good as a Southerly 23. The Southerly 23 [707] is the equivalent of an Endeavour 24. The tophat is an older design but a better boat to sail all around. The fit-out sets this Tophat apart.
