Item 18 might catch a few SBer's out..

I had a lady at the dog beach tell me that the rangers fined her 200 bucks for letting her dog walk in the car park without a leash..

I also copped fines from those w@nks for parking in my own driveway (partially blocking a footpath which was part of my driveway) and parking facing the wrong way up the street.

I did a 10km DW on the sunny coast yesterday in 22 kts, went pass 3 people on the beach

No one goes to the beach here when its windy except me

Not even other kiters Hahaha

No just joking, but I dont know where the other kiters were

Guess its windy most of the time in WA in season

So if your a beach goer ,will probably be windy if your at the beach

Not sure how much the fines are

Why the all this fuss now? Flying a kite was banned by the Taliban many years ago.

One person has an accident that results in death and they then decide to ban kiting. Can't people realise it was an accident. Why don't they also shut Marine parade that goes past the beach in case someone gets hit by a car. I recon we should all ignor and assemble as many kiters as possible on the banned section on one particular windy day as a protest.(except the main swimming beach).

I love WA, but geez you guys love your segregation. Windsurfers are always whinging about kitesurfers.

At least in Sydney Windsurfers and Kiters hang out on the beach and are dont carry on when we get in each others way.

Who on council windsurfs.. Or am I just being racist?

There is an organisation called "International Sailboarders In Society", we need to form a coalition against them.

The challenge is to get more people of Western Australian origin to get involved. Unfortunately kiteboarding media was stamped out about 3 years ago when Isis got involved.

Now we must bind together and fight the division of Isis and kite in all Isis' flagged windsurfing areas. Burn their signs. Even take dogs on the beach

I wonder if the intention is to ban it but not enforce it. That way if any problems are caused by kiters they are always in the wrong.

At Mullalloo they did have a ranger handing out fines though

But I assume if you have a serious accident your insurance won't cover you or anyone around you... You could be up for BIG $$$'s

Especially in Cott! Imagine if your runaway kite took out someones modern art installation in the front yard of their 12 million dollar manision

I called the council and put a story up at inmycommunity.com.au. They are investigating if the signs were put in the wrong places, after a request from WAKSA that old, faded ones be replaced. The council still considers the old, unofficial agreeement with WAKSA is in place that the 200m opposite Salvado Rd is for launching and landing.
On a side note, just stay away from Telephone Box, between Rosendo and Dean streets and where Marc Sprod was killed, as this is prime site for swimmers, oldies and families who love the pool in the reef break there even in moderate wind conditions.

Was sprod killed where the tree memorial is ? If so that's where the majority of people kite/launch from - never seen swimmers or other beach users there apart from the odd guy with a metal detector - as its a **** beach covered in reef & rocks

Yes, the decorated tree is where Marc was killed. That bit of slighly curved beach with its sandy opening in the shore reef in front of the nearby CONCRETE steps (where the old public telephone box used to be) has become increasingly used in winter during north westerlies/NNW'lies - Mea culpa: me included, and I was cr*p in those conditions - despite the dangers of the on-shore winds and tight beach close to the footpath. In summer, a group of guys kite there early in the afternoons, when there could still be a few swimmers, have used the spot to get away from the pack, when the main launch site is about 100m south at the end of Salvado Rd.
Perth's population is increasing and once barely-used local spots like the Telephone Box, and it' accompanying pool, are becoming increasingly popular for all beach users.
Cottesloe is always in the spotlight, just like Bondi or St Kilda. So have a good hard think when using a tight, potentially dangerous spot like Telphone Box.

Cheers for the reply - yep - "phonebox" is a great spot & has provided for some sick sessions over this past winter - only for experienced kiters- most of the crew I see out there know what their doing. Hopefully their has been a mixup & that sign will sorted - kiting is a dangerous sport - always going to be high risks involved.

Wow! That place is a beauty! I was checking it out on street view.
It's a real shame this crap goes down and WAKSA sit on their hands about it, it seems. I mean, look at all that space! Plenty of green grass to rig up and a walk into the water and off you go!
It just doesn't make any sense.
Fear I tell ya, it's all fear mongering.

Is cottesloe harboring terrorists? Have the Talaban arrived? Do they really think $100 fine will deter someone using a gun. WTF!

I still argue that there is a lot of grey area there..It wasn't as simple as that.. The garage had a 3 metre setback from the front boundary so any car that was parked would stick into the "path". The footpath was replaced by the drive way cross over..

The rangers have been pretty firm over the past few years, parking and dogs are a pretty easy target.

No longer a resident unfortunately. Just well experienced in reading their by-laws...

Jeez, what a load of crap this topic has turned into..

In reference to the above..

Lawn mowing is alive and well in cottesloe. There are regular get togethers where they dress us in budgie smugglers, seat harnesses and bucket hats and short tack everyone at Dutchies...

Can't wait for summer!

There is no grey area. You own up to your cadastral boundary. If you park on the footpath then be prepared to be fined. The footpath is for walking on whether it has been replaced by a crossover or not.

Footpath was still trafficable and only partially obstructed.
