welcome to the new world where big data will be king

Will be? It already is -- why do you think FB is worth billions?

yep id share my data. in the interests potentially spreading it to others. but id be pretty quick to delete the thing if it appeared to be being misused, or if it was clunky s**t software that slowed my phone down.

One slight concern is they may use it for more than just tracing covid contacts. eg working out which locations people frequent (e.g. remote surf spots), and closing them down (even if theres no covid in the area). Which could be ok, and a good public health benefit, but could also be overly intrusive.

actually i think its a pretty good iniative, if we are going to be in this for 6- 12 months and having a widely used phone ap reduces the amount of restrictions on what we are allowed to do, then im all for it.

Imagine the scenario - pubs + restauraunts etc can open, the footys on, whatever... but only if everyone has the app installed..... or similar.

Until the police start throwing you in jail for not carrying a phone
Nevertheless this will get critical mass because most people don't see the risk in giving up personal freedoms is that you will never get them back.

Can't you just delete the app once we are through this?

yes. you allready share your location etc to google or apple or any number of apps. when you install you grant whole permission. google for example has permission for most stuff even your camera and mic. so they can listen if they wanted to! Theres such a thing as too much data. Google uses it to work put your spending habits, demographics etc for targeted ads. They have a profit motive to do so. the government would have little to gain knowing that cisco sometimes exceeds the speed limit on back roads or flysurfer smokes weed on friday nights. the amount if resources to mine interpret and action everybodys minute details? seriously. Its just about covid. delete the app when its done.

Voluntary until we makes it compulsory - as soon as we have written the leg and pass it with our authoritarian corona powers
Can leave your phone at home until we make it compulsory to carry phone out of house - police will be given more powers
Can delete the app when we tell you you can - police will check for app on phone
It is for your own good and would be unaustralian not to obey your masters, we know best!
dob in your mates that haven't installed and get a $1000 corona bonus payment
mates disappeared, well, he wasn't a very good Australian, we sent him to Nauru, he can come back when we say he can, unless he gets sick and accidentally dies in detention, Nauru has excellent hospital facilities though

lol, all because people are afraid of dying a little

I will. I am happy to also crack and uncrack my phone to remove *hit...
This is an app about your self interest not fishy this or smelly that....
Most all apps are developed taking as much advantage of stock library routines not written from scratch.. On the face of it it sounds sensible for the development process.. IT is notoriously buggy in rapid development mode.. But the down side is 1 efficiency and 2 access requirements. You load an app and it asks for permission to do everything any of the off the shelf routines need.. Mostly totally unrelated to the app.
Analogy with a multistory office building.. You belong to a business on 15 floor occupying 4 of 10 zones on that floor. The app says off the shelf location global.. Off the shelf business directory global.. Off the shelf records and data management global.. Etc etc so nothing refined about it....
You load TI****OK...that capture your life and show the world app..then u are relying on every other app to work securely...
Some years back a US uni' developed an xcellent. Firewall approach to controlling access to your contacts... But unless it was part of an operating system.. It had a fantastic frontdoor guard and no control over backdoor access...
We rely on the legislature to guide and guard our privacy... The phone as it stands is way to convenient to give up regardless of privacy issues.. That horse bolted in 2008-ish ....
This is an app about your self interest not fishy this or fishy that...
Cheers

I do not own a mobile phone due to valid concerns of radiation. Carrying one in your pocket is a definite no,no.

Funny I recall you failing to capture an image of a "chemtrail" because your phone was flat. Never mind, landlines are easier to tap into anyway, noticed any strange sounds or clicks on your land line lately pete?

Well I know in the industry I work with, oil and gas, the operators will very quickly jump onboard requiring all workers to show a clean trace or the app at least installed on their phone prior to starting work or going offshore. I think everyone will be good with that, we want the work and they are the providers. Will be nice to know the guy of girl sitting next to me on the bus or plane going to or from work is unlikely to be unwell with Covid-19, and I won't be bringing it home to my family.

I agree airmail, it will never completely remove the risk but adds an increased level of assurance. But most importantly, it will allow quicker tracing of transmissions and maybe help science understand transmissions better.

Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country

Sometimes you've got to stop being selfish and look at the big picture. The economy is f#@ked, millions of people are on reduced incomes or out of work and your worried some ones going to find out your shagging the next door neighbour.

Those that don't own, or refuse to carry a mobile phone are just the next generation of anti-vaccers. In the minority and irrelevant statistically.
The current lockdown provisions in WA combined with my work and lifestyle has meant almost no difference to what I can do during lock-down but I'll get the app, because it's the right rink to do for the greater good, and I know big brother can get, and already has all my data anyway.

They are searching sacred texts? I don't mean to tell them how to do their jobs, but any 8 year old child can see that they only need look at Youtube to educate themselves.

Shame on you Rupert for not seeing this and being complicit in this conspiracy.

Well depopulation eugenicist offspring Billy G has got his Dr Evil fingers in a lot of stuff, if he was that evil he would surely covertly at least try and put the number 666 into one of his hellish patents.

And so it is ....
