This is true. No vaccine is 100% effective. No surprise.
However, if vaccinated you are far, far more likely to have much milder symptoms, if any at all. For example I've had only the 1st shot of Pfizer and that should give me (on average) an 92% chance of not even catching it. I'll have an 8% of catching it, and having very mild symptoms.
So, if my chance of hospitalisation unvaccinated was 2.00%, it is now 8% of 2%, or now 0.16%

No, that is not an answer at all. Is it that you don't understand it yourself?
I will anticipate what I think you and Kami are saying, because you sure don't seem to want to come up with an explanation for what you have been told.
You are saying that because vaccines are stopping a certain variant of Covid that this then allows other variants to take over because they are not being prevented by the vaccine.
Okay, here is the salient point; you have and plenty of others have said that the vaccines don't prevent you from catching Covid and passing it on. So how does that prevent any strain from getting passed on? I would suggest that it doesn't.
Now the second point is that these variants are coming from huge countries where rates of vaccination are low. Therefore the vaccines should have minimal effect on whether certain variants get passed on. How many do you think were vaccinated in Brazil and India when these variants became dominant? I would argue that it was very low, yet these variants took off, clearly because they were more transmissible. Nothing to do with vaccines.
Now to concede something because I want to argue logic not just "my" point of view. If we were in a society where there were large numbers of vaccinated, I could see where other variants that were able to evade the protection of existing vaccines would be able to take hold and become dominant, even to the vaccinated.
Did I get it right? Did I hit on what you think you are arguing or did I miss it?
Unless you can argue I am wrong, I think the notion of 'the vaccinated are killing the unvaccinated' is just catchy because it aligns with the feelings from some people that vaccines = bad.

Just back from walking the dog, currently in lockdown in SEQ, masks are optional outdoors.
Probably a 50/50 split of mask wearers and those not wearing them. I have no actual data but possibly those vaccinated don't care about wearing them anymore. I got glared at heaps by those wearing them, guess I'm going to have to get used to that, though with fewer and fewer mask wearers out there in the future the glares should subside.
The unmasked seemed happier, said hello etc, the masked not so, if not doing the glare would avoid eye contact altogether. Some even crossed the path to keep well away, almost like the unmasked were leper's. I guess we are as we could possibly have Covid and not even know it, or care.
I guess it will become a badge of honour, I choose not to be vaccinated and I choose to wear a mask.

Okay, here is the salient point; you have and plenty of others have said that the vaccines don't prevent you from catching Covid and passing it on. So how does that prevent any strain from getting passed on? I would suggest that it doesn't.
Now the second point is that these variants are coming from huge countries where rates of vaccination are low. Therefore the vaccines should have minimal effect on whether certain variants get passed on. How many do you think were vaccinated in Brazil and India when these variants became dominant? I would argue that it was very low, yet these variants took off, clearly because they were more transmissible. Nothing to do with vaccines.
Now to concede something because I want to argue logic not just "my" point of view. If we were in a society where there were large numbers of vaccinated, I could see where other variants that were able to evade the protection of existing vaccines would be able to take hold and become dominant, even to the vaccinated.
Did I get it right? Did I hit on what you think you are arguing or did I miss it?
Unless you can argue I am wrong, I think the notion of 'the vaccinated are killing the unvaccinated' is just catchy because it aligns with the feelings from some people that vaccines = bad.

Apart from, it's not my point of view. I'm just willing to accept that it's a possibility.

Errrm. No. That's why they're not a problem. They used to be a problem. Ask anybody over 60 about the kids at school with leg irons or the relative in an iron lung. Vaccines got invented. People got vaccinated. Problem solved.
I had my second AstraZeneca shot. After the first I had side effects similar to a mild hangover. After the second, zero side effects. In fact, I feel great. Had a couple of awesome foiling sessions. I haven't felt this good in weeks. I reckon they might have cut it with a bit of speed or coke or something.
Hmmmm just another cunning way to increase uptake, I wonder if it will catch on ? Either way can wait for me 2nd dose coke or no coke !
Good question. Like the CT nuts say, do your own research. Maybe measles and mumps are still infecting lots of kids without causing serious disease.
Another question occurs to me. Why don't those viruses evolve in response to vaccines? Are they just less mutable than flu?
