Yeah, that's pretty dodgy by the banks. Clearly protecting their own business at the expense of people doing it tough.. and in a way that makes it harder for them when refinancing and reducing the rate would actually help.
I was told by one of my family that the banks were discriminating against people that withdrew from their Super during this time. I.e. if they withdrew anything the banks treated it as a sign of mortgage stress. I was at the bank asking about changing something with my loan and was asked this question, so my clear reply was 'no'. Dodgy so and so's.
As for 1% loans, is anyone really getting them? I have heard of 2% honeymoon rates, but surely no one is getting less than this?
Banks suck sometimes. I tried to refinance a credit card debt with the same bank with my mortgages and they said no because I had only been with my new employer for 6 months. Clearly its better business for them to keep that debt and not refinance it, not 'more risky'. I told them that I would try and move my loan to another bank and they reconsidered. No kidding. Banks are just about profit.
