We are now in lockdown
looks like the bad uk strain.......
Old mate had quite an extensive list of places he has visited many of which are high human traffic areas ....... not good
What really gets to me is that if everything is so knife edge , why are sports like tennis , cricket and the likes still permitted to take place on an international scale ?
The shops are a mess again, but the first person to say anything about my panic buying gets my dirtiest look.
And you filthy students and teachers who get to remain at the beach when my turn for a quiet wave has finally come....??
Woe is the essential worker who thought life could get back to normal.
So, once again it's the quarantine hotel worker. Probably a poorly paid, relatively unskilled worker, but holding the economic fate of the country in their hands. Surely, it would be worth investing more in this area and not have to keep shutting down businesses?

Why not have quarantine located at an area it's not easy to get in and out of? An island comes to mind. Islands and peninsulas were once used to hold people who were at risk of spreading an infectious disease.
It really does not make much sense to use a building like a city hotel as a quarantine holding centre. Someone in the hotel can walk out and almost immediately come into contact with many people in the city. On an island or peninsula people would get fresh air and not be stuck inside an air conditioned building breathing in recycled air from the room next door.

Yep agree if you are doing any shifts in hotel quarantine I feel they should be paid enough to stay home between shifts and get items delivered. Should have to sign a form and companies should have to pay them for 50-60 hours a week and work max 40.
this would ensure benefit to all.
Their is a massive list of places they have been , and all of them packed....
Apparently they do rideshare as a side job...... perfect

The problem is that you have 4 shifts of support staff to cater for as well as the quarantined people. And you still have to keep them isolated from each other to prevent the infection having a chance to spread.
And you have to transport people who do turn out to be infected to a place where they can be more closely monitored and treated.
But I'd say it's a no brainer to get the security and catering staff to do only the one job with danger and isolation money paid on top of the regular pay.

Tassie springs to mind
Hold the tennis and cricket there .

Yup over here in queensland the govermnent wanted to use the brand new mining camps up north. Not sure what happend to that idea but i think that is what is going to prove most effective.
The hotel quarentine is good but the mining camp system would/will be better. Hoepfully it would stop us going into more lockdowns.
The costs involved in setting up a proper isolated quarantine area operated by staff who are professionals paid at a rate reflecting they too will be isolated and at risk, would by insignificant compared to the harm these lock downs & the rest have caused.
The only exception to isolated quarantine would be having quarantine accomodation close to the airport. This would be for airline workers flying in from overseas. They would stay there till their flight out. No exceptions either. We suffered in Sydney because, though who really knows, a worker on a flight from overseas, infected with Covid-19, decided to go home after getting out of the airport. This action resulted in distress and dislocation for many people. I still do not understand why passengers on aeroplanes coming in from overseas go into quarantine while those working on the plane did not have to. What was the reasoning behind this decision?
As I relatively new West Aussie, I did the right thing once I learned of the impending lockdown. I went to the bottleshop.
Sure, you can buy it when you are in lockdown, but who wants to be the last one who cannot buy their 12 bottles of wine, 2 bottles of spirits and 3 cases of beer for each night? My neighbours would laugh at me!
If they did home delivery toilet paper, people would have nothing to do.
Does anyone know if kiting or windsurfing qualifies as exercise under the rules? Do I need to wear my mask out in the water? Maybe I can paint one on in sunscreen? From a distance no one will know.
Oh yeah, the idea of remote areas as quarantine camps is a good one. If these new strains show themselves to be very contagious, it will have to happen, no question. Pay people to serve 'swings' at quarantine facilities is cheaper than shutting your businesses down every other week.
As an ex-NSW person, I think its good that Mark McGowan sees that its not as simple when you have to deal with it, and hope he learns that NSW and Vic have a heavy burden when dealing with it.
I remember reading that Qantas were still pushing to use their own hotels and monitor their own people when this was going down. I guess they want to have their staff happy, but unfortunately it was 'all care and no responsibility'. In a time when those people would be happy to have a job, things need to change to minimise the risk for everyone.

Can't we staff it with Covid-deniers? They won't catch it as they have good immune systems/eat organic food/ don't watch mainstream media.
Jokes aside, it may get to the point where these shifts are needed. If they can do it with mining camps, they can do it with quarantine places.

Nice idea if you could find a pleasant island 20 minutes away that had previously been used for quarantine...
i think there might have been a few kiters who rolled straight into their 1 hour of exercise at 6pm tonight....!
Is an issue with the whole hotel quarantine system is that it is continuous rolling thing ??
People arrive everyday on a rolling system of 14 days. Staff are looking after people who have been there for 13 days and then also somebody who is on day one. Exposure and turnover is significantly inflated.
Surely it would make more sense of one hotel, one group entry day one, all stay for 14 days, everyone tests clean, all leave, then clean the facilities and repeat. Staff do a 14 day on : 14 day off roster, only have contact with one fixed group.
???
Only works if noone tests positive. If that happens they are staying longer and you're out of sync. Similarly as soon as you have a border closure and people get sent to quarantine from interstate outside of that cycle you will have the same problem.
How about making the "regular" pay level decent enough to live on comfortably?
The vast majority of these "essential workers" who keep getting given the hero label, are perpetually struggling to make ends meet.
I work alongside a lot of these "heros" who would dearly love to have stable shifts, regular hours, and single employer instead of juggling 2, 3, and even 4 jobs, and not have to juggle credit cards to feed, clothe and house the family.
Pats on the back from the media and government poobahs along with warm fuzzy feelings are appreciated - but warm fuzzys dont pay the bills.
So .... can we get in the water then? That's all I care about.
Although I agree that those that work to feed and watch people in quarantine should not then be roaming about the bloody neighbourhood. I think the evidence is conclusive that this is a massive weak link in the entire process.

There's nothing on any of the reports that says anything about what type of exercise, just the need to wear a mask at all times when outside.. could be interesting. If you see some idiot kiting in a ski mask it will probably be me.
Its exercise in your neighbourhood with one other person. What constitutes a neighbourhood? Wonder who the other person will be?
Your neighborhood is a 5km radius.
Swimming at the beach is still deemed exercise so assume kiting will be again too. No mask while in the water but wear it all other times.
1hr limit from when you arrive/depart the beach.

Slack, where did you find this info?
Is it current?
I've searched the govt covvid site and can find no reference to exercise let alone in the water

Staff could do a 3 & 1 roster similar to mining.
1 week working, 2 weeks quarantine & 1 week at home with family etc.
Going home daily to mix with family & driving an Uber is crazy.

Good stuff... 2kms for me, and all is well. Hope the wind hangs around. Maybe not today though.
Down side is that it takes me an hour to rig up and then pack up... I will need to be streamlining that. Maybe arrive at the beach with the kite already inflated? ![]()

Hey Decrepit, it is in the police direction (Stay at Home and Closure [Perth, Peel and the South West Regions] Directions).

As the police commissioner has said in today's conference - police will apply the 'knucklehead rule'. If you're not being an idiot and complying with the principles then no-one is going to make a big deal of it. Be a ****wit and ruin it for everyone...
Wear a mask, don't hang around in groups etc.

Thanks Slack, that's good to know
