I very much doubt you would actually read medical journals, as the sort of person that reads those tend to have a bit more logical approach to applying drugs to diseases, not just random 'suck it and see' hail-mary attempts. Its very unlikely that someone reading medical journals would ignore the normal logic of running trials on them and seeing the result before claiming they work.
On the other hand, a conspiracy theorist spoon fed stuff from other people would make such a claim. It's easy to make a claim. Much harder to back it up with evidence.
