Are you suggesting that a bad thing?"
No I'm not, where did you get that idea from? I hope they find something and find it fast but my comment was why limit trials to just one drug, hydroxychloroquine a quinine based anti-malarial, or is the Covid19 virus similar in composition to whatever is passed from mosquito to human that causes malaria?
Fair enough, I miss read your post.
Hydroxychloroquine is being trialled because doctors are already prescribing it for their covid19 patients and claiming positive results. It is not just a trials of any random drug.
Trump is taking it as a preventative, as the 1000's of Australian medical pers will for the trial. So this is different to patients that already have the wuhan Flu. It is worth studying.
For covid patients, this drug needs to be combined with other drug/supplements. One of those is zinc. Hydroxychloroquine helps carry zinc into the cells. The zinc is having an impact. Zinc is also good for treating the common cold.
Because Trump is also taking it, people like Logman and bono are being triggered and are trying to undermine the drugs potential. People in influential positions are undermining it, doctors are being prevented from prescribing it in America due to their Trump Derangement Syndrome. As per my previous popular funny meme:

There are other promising drugs being tested as well. Hydroxychloroquine was actually found by a Brisbane research team when it killed off the virus in lab samples. Australia doesn't have enough cases to actually do much meaningfull testing though and making that work in a human body is always a bit more challenging. Results are nothing but anecdotal until proper trials can have results analysed.
It's a known drug, needs no human trails to ensure safety and is cheap, so it's being used. Which is smart. Any new treatment has to go through massive tests before being considered safe and effective.
Unfortunately because Trump thought it might be a usefull drug many are dismissing it, and even outright attacking it. Which is crazy, who cares what your political views are, if it helps then great.
People are dumb.
This is something to thank the China flu for...

Yep, a little way to go yet before I give up on logic and analytical thinking and let some website tell me what to think in the guise of preventing me falling for what everyone else is being told to think.
Mainstream media telling me what to think = brainwashing
Alternative media telling me what to think = educating myself
Trying to understand what any media is telling me and applying my own thinking to it = what a normal person does

Trump is a perfect example of dumb self-administration of drugs that is by all accounts, unsafe outside a hospital or trial situation.
At present anecdotal evidence indicates the drug may be killing more people than it's saving.
The political ideology of those who are generally of a conservative leaning mean that when a buffoon like Trump speaks, you tend to listen. You may even see this as some sort of free thinking when in truth it's just dumb.
How many times does Trump need to stuff up before you stop listening?

Holy guacamole ! - that's practically empirical then.
Case closed.
The science is in.
Whoooa....it's just the Federal Drug Administration issuing a warning to dumb people against self-administration of drugs....
Empirical evidence you say Carantoc? Well that's better than trying to come up with a story to fit a pre-determined result, wouldn't you say?
Empirical is something like...."Osama bin Laden was the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks". That kind of thing. Or is that in fact, a conspiracy theory?

Why the obsession with Bono? Cher's definitely more attractive. What about Cher, you always seem to forget her?

Just as a question, because I don't know...how do you know Trump is/was self administering (ie without perscription or professional dose regulation) rather than taking the drug as prescribed by a medical professional? ie as advised by the FDA?

Now I'm guessing you're going to raise the semantic point that the White House Medical Officer (an Osteopath) consulted with the president but the prescription, whether "official" or not is without a scientific medical basis.
Therefore it's no more guaranteed than self-administration.

Trump's using pseudo-science. Doesn't matter where the story's coming from.
Encouraging people to use an un-proven treatment is reckless nonsense.
According to The Lancet, hydroxychloroquine is a little worse than useless.
www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)31180-6/fulltext
10?698 (11?1%) patients died in hospital. After controlling for multiple confounding factors (age, sex, race or ethnicity, body-mass index, underlying cardiovascular disease and its risk factors, diabetes, underlying lung disease, smoking, immunosuppressed condition, and baseline disease severity), when compared with mortality in the control group (9?3%), hydroxychloroquine (18?0%; hazard ratio 1?335, 95% CI 1?223-1?457), hydroxychloroquine with a macrolide (23?8%; 1?447, 1?368-1?531), chloroquine (16?4%; 1?365, 1?218-1?531), and chloroquine with a macrolide (22?2%; 1?368, 1?273-1?469) were each independently associated with an increased risk of in-hospital mortality.
Trump said it would work, so it wouldn't. It doesn't.
Next: "Magic", and then injecting sunlight, or bleach.
...it blows my mind none of that is made up.

You do realise that Noel Cowards "Blithe Spirit" was a fictional piece involving seances, spiritualists/mediums and ghosts, originally written as a play for the stage, later adapted as a movie, radio and TV series.
