Yes, sorry, not meaning to downplay it - more trying to say that there are already significant powers to track and monitor what you do under the surveillance act - this predominantly bring the capability to actively engage and impersonate online, which is more of a social media issue. Much harder to pull that off when you're doing a video call on signal for example. And if you genuinely have concerns about your privacy than get off facebook, twitter etc before you start worrying about this.

If you could show they have egged you on in anyway, or tricked you into committing a crime the courts would (should) throw it out.
I would guess, for example, you would have to ask for a hitman before they offered. If you saw an offer, even if it was somebody offering their hitman services to a different party and telling them how good they were on facebook, before you directly asked I reckon you'd have an arguable case that they acted to incite crime.

They could prior to this, but they needed a judge to approve. I believe the crux in this policy is that the judge approval has been taken out.
Well if it helps the police stop say, a terror attack, murder or drugs into the country etc. quicker without having to wait for a judge, sound good to me.

Some murder is actually self defence but sometimes the courts don't see it that way.
Some drugs should be legal but aren't.
This one might really blow you away, some police are not 100% on the level.

To say it "does not need a judge's warrant" is hype - plenty of search warrants can be signed by JP's, and some by magistrates so we already have a hundred cases in Australia of police being able to exercise similar powers "without a judges warrant"
If the author needs to play silly word games to make it sound worse than it is, then maybe they don't have much of a case to complain about. Trouble is it gets reposted again and again by people who don't understand.
