Got sent a couple of good pics that were taken on the 11.01.10

we had a solid 25knts WSW. It was bit square but really smooth.

This spot is as good if not better than hardies and has smooth water for 3NM's

Great pics Bender.

So is this just a tease or are you going to let loose on details...?

Direction, tide, weed, launch spot, dangers.

Its the lechenault Inlet at Australind, 10mins north of Bunbury.

Mid to low tide sailing in knee deep water. Its best on a SW, or NW but is really fun on WSW or WNW. As we have had a major bloom of the snot weed you need to use weed fins but in winter pointers are fine ( no rocks).

Grumps the pyramid in the back ground is Bunno's one and only high rise and we call it the Milk carton

Devil fish - that must of been what i stepped on last time i was there! agree with the 40 mins of pain. this is a great spot for blasting though, just watch out for the sand bar coming out of the boat ramp area. saw a guy last summer tear straight into the sandbar and snap his mast - ouch!!!

Can vouch for Bender's hospitality, had an epic day XMas eve 2008 in 20-25 and pulled my first planing gybe. Bender, who I had never met before, lent me a weedy for the day . With the new freeway it's now about 25-30mins quicker to get there. Less wind than crabland but less limestone too. Awesome spot on its day - just keep going and going.

Due to the amount of PM's i have received. I though i would give everybody the heads up on what conditions you need for the Lechenault Inlet to turn it on with butter smooth water that goes for 3NM's

WSW, W WNW
Any wind with westerly in it is a bit square but loads of fun as you can sail close to shore (tide permiting) and fang along in knee deep water for up to 4NM's

This happen quite alot in winter and is grerat for alpha's and 1hr's

SSW, SW, NNW
These directions are the ones you want for speed. The inlet runs north/south so you need these wind directions to sail broad without running out of water.

Tides
During summer we have nice lowish tide, these combined with a good SW'er give you the perfect smooth speed strip. Most of the time you are saling in waist to knee deep water. Due to last years snot weed growth weed fins are needed.

During winter i mostly use a pointer. As the winter fronts hit it turns it on, along as we dont get too much of a storm surge, as this makes the run really choppy (just like the swan)

I hope this is helpful enough.
In winter if we get a good forecast i would love to organise some informal racing especially in a westerly as we could drag race for three NM's gybe round a mark and drag back. Perhaps even a 1 hour challenge. The sailor who does the most laps wins

let it blow i'm keen for a drag any time. Come down and show me how fast you can go. I might be able to keep up unhoked and out of the straps sailing upwind

i would like to see you keep up. Thats if you can sail broad at about 130deg off the wind that is
