Dur - it was US dollars so ended up being c $212.. oh well haven't received it yet but looking forward to seeing how it goes.

I'd love to hear what you think of the fin. I like BP Weedies and have had less-than-perfect experience with Makani in the past, but a friend who sails Falcons in chop swears by Makani weedies, and returned most of his BP WS fins after trying Makanis. He likes the lift, says they are close to pointer fins in feel. Maybe the blurb on the Makani website is not just fluff. Although reading "We also used a more precise way to manufactured the fin to get our tolerance respected" does indicate that they may have had problems in the past...

I've bought an excocet RS2 for the chop so will be using that fin in it. The 89 falcon is in buy & sell although if it hasn't sold by the time the fin arrives I'll give it a go. The bigger fin should make a difference.. I'd love to keep the falcon for flatwater sailing but had to get one board to do all and with my lightweight the exocet is less lively. Also the only way I could argue re getting another board was to get rid of one of my others!
Daffy had a go on my big freemove ( 115 /75 wide excocet Xcross) with the 38makani and commented on how well it hung on in the chop.

Tried the 34cm Hahalua Makani weedie in the 90 ltre Excocet RS2 with the 7.8m overdrive today. Technically I bought that size fin for the 7m sail so a little smaller than recommended. Should be even more solid with the right sail size ( if we ever get enough wind to use a 7m again! )
Gusty 10-17kts small chop 6-8" at canton.
It was great! Went upwind great , only spunout once when I waved at someone and lost attention.. .. I'm still a little careful of fully loading fins after my previous history with small fins but what a difference to be able to trust the fin and load it !
I usually shuffle upwind with not a lot of fin or sail pressure but today I was sailing upwind like everyone else.
It's not a speed fin so probably not as fast as BP etc . It has a 43 degrees rake and no worries picking up weed although it's not that thick there at the moment.
I haven't tried it in 2-3' chop yet but so far I'm really happy with it's performance for what I want it for ! ( upwind / spinout resistance)
