Thought I had enough trouble with Mal and Kari, what chance now???

1 Andrew Daff 11
2 Kari 17
2 Decrepit 17
4 Mal Faulkner 22
5 Keef 32
6 Norman Clarke 39

But at least it should give Aus the international category, surely the Northern hemisphere mob, will be getting frozen out soon.

1 Andrew Daff 18
2 Peter Cutts 22
3 Jacques Pellen 24
4 Decrepit 32
5 Kari 33
6 Normski 38
7 John Overmeer 40
8 Mal Faulkner 41
9 Günter Jansen 52
10 Keef 55
11 Norman Clarke 68

Dont bank on us getting frozen out yet.....its quite warm here still.......no frozen hands and my toes are fine, they are the first indicators of the cold for me due to high doses of warfarin (blood thinners).

I was out sailing today with Norm Petty and he was just having fun on an old board that he 'must' get wet once per year which certainly isnt the sort of thing you do in the cold. ;-) I am quite jealous though, it seems this year had a very quick summer for us but the spring was fantastic and was hot from march through to the end of june.

I think there should be a complete rethink about all the age divisions..
Really there are about 3 divisions covering sailors between 18 and 60, but in reality, little changes in ones ability in this age span. For instance there are plenty of 60 yr olds that can run rings around 20 yr olds.
I raised this subject several years ago, but at the time I was the only septuagenarian and it was not taken seriously. Also I think there may have only been one other Legend. Now there are sailors popping into the Legend class fairly often and I doubt they get much satisfaction knowing that they are up against some that are up to 78 years of age. I haven't looked at my personal ranking for some time now as I know I will be well down the list.
Bump the age up to 65 if you will, but it will only be a stop gap action. In a few years the same quote (above) will appear again.
Think about it and there may be a better way.

Haha yeah and also NOT have sponsored and heavily subsidised sailors with the latest greatest gear
Maybe they should be in an open class

while your looking at age divisions,I think the kids need another division.
0-12 and 13-17 are the present categories. 13 and 14 year olds competing against
almost 18 year olds. The younger ones will not be inspired to participate .I think they should be 0-12 13-15 and 16-17 or something similar

Alex just turned 10, but when he turns 13 he might not bother with GPS and only do other disciplines as might other kids that age.A 13-15 division will allow some fair and healthy competition to inspire the young teens and continue with GPSTC even while exploring other disciplines.

Actually not a silly idea Hardz, maybe even 70 ?
I think anyone who sails at 70 plus is a dead set Legend, any clown can sail at 60, hell I'll be 60 in a couple of years and I'm no legend that's for sure, I just look like a worn out old bastard

That's not taking anything away from Junior Daff, well done

KA360....Well said.....The reason I confined my comments to above 18 Yr olds is that I am no expert in this age group. The powers to be should take on some expert advice as to setting age groupings.
Sheartip its good to hear from you. I too could live with it if there were no age groupings at all.

how about a new division 60+ geriatrics( medical certificate needed) and maybe a point system and give them % for there achievements
10% for a knee replacement
15% for both knees
10% for a hip replacement
20% for both
10% open heart surgery
a certificate for the closest parking to the rigging area
and make it mandatory any 10 to 40year olds sailing on the day to help the geriatrics while beach starting

Me too but it doesn't matter, in another 20 odd years you'll be a legend anyway, or an old worn out bugger like a lot of other 60+ year olds

Great idea, I'm at the opp end of Aus at the moment and beach starting is doing my head in

All BS aside though Keef, I do know an old guy with only one hip (one removed) who the younger ones carry his gear down and help, makes me warm and fuzzy He's a good bloke to mention when someone is complaining about a sore finger

But we digress

I was in you position when i stated Alex, i was looking at the individual rankings all the time and gradually climbing up the ranking list. The all time junior ranking is great as my targets were set out and have reached my goals quite quickly. Slowly my pb's are getting harder to get You will be flying on another good day at Sandy Point.

Daffy agree about Alex, but you're looking at the legends overall, I've been building that result since the GTC first started.
You on the other hand have only been a legend since the last time I looked, (sorry don't remember when that was).
And this is where you are for 2011 after a mere month or so.

1 Andrew Daff 18
2 Peter Cutts 23
3 Jacques Pellen 24
4 Kari 28
5 Decrepit 33
6 Normski 39
7 John Overmeer 40
8 Mal Faulkner 42

Aussie
1 Andrew Daff 11
2 Kari 15
3 Decrepit 18
4 Mal Faulkner 23
5 Keef 32
6 Norman Clarke 39

And I see Kari has got 3 points ahead of me since the start of this thread

Alex's board is 32 cm wide and about 35 litres, an awesome looking waterski.
We are planning to get back to Sandy Point very soon,we had a fantastic time when we were there, cold, but met so many nice people.Victoria has a great windsurfing community.Alex has some unfinished business,30 knots is his goal.

Ninkinonk-I have been making a youtube video(search ahalank1) of Alex approx every 6 months since he got his first board for his 7th birthday. It shows his progress from when he was your sons age.Kids seeing other kids really help them believe it is possible.
