From KA72 Facebook page

"We're teaming up with LOCOSYS Club and WindWanderers to bring you the October Nautical Mile Challenge, open to any sailors in the Pacific"

Not sure why WA coastline is regarded as "in the Pacific"

I registered for the nautical mile challenge on 10-5, and got an email from my credit card company about the charge so I though everything was fine. I sent an email to Dylan a couple of days later, and everything still seemed to be fine. However, none of the sessions I posted show up in the challenge.

Did anyone else have problems registering?

Just to clarify: The competition runs for the whole month of October? But one must register entry before the 15th of October. Is that correct?

notepad.software/ www.oovoo.com/malwarebytes/ filezilla.software/
Yes that is correct, runs for full month but you need to register by 15th. Also need to have uploaded at least two tracks to be in the draw.
--------------------------
In order to be eligible for the GPS prizes, competitors must load at least two tracks to the competition during October 2018. Locosys and KA72 are providing three GW-60 watches and five GPS-Walker loggers for this competition.

but i cant see how you could have a opposition in which a few people will be sailing dead flat speed courses in robust 30+knts of wind are competing in opposition to others in bumpy choppy conditions moderate 20knts, its no longer simply a opposition except you spoil it down to kingdom/spot/places.
those that sail in velocity course location/situations have it gained earlier than it even begins.
until i am lacking something??

The current leader in the competition drove for over four hours to get to some flat water for his nm effort and still there was only about 20 kn of wind when he got there (despite a forecast of better). Reward for effort and planning as well as good sailing, I guess.
Boz is a very good sailor and is up there with the best on any course on any day.
Flat speed courses for a nm with a steady 30 knot wind in October are unlikely here too, and most of the speed courses are studded with weedburgs at present, making any nm attempt a risky proposition.
I hope that makes you feel better.

And where are you ONLY? new to the forum?

I drove 250km to get to a good location (I was lucky that it was windy too) as my usual is open bay water or 1hr either way to flat water when the wind god is happy.

The NM Challenge is a great initiative by WW. It's a pity when people try to pour cold water on something positive. GPS speedsailing will always be strongly influenced by "the right place at the right time", it comes with the territory.
If you don't like GPS speedsailing, do something else...

Thanks guys, a great competition again held by the Windwanderers and KA72, good to have been part of it. WA is fortunate to have some great NM places if the wind and tide align. Albany top of the list but Glory Holes Coods and Boombas not too far. Best thing was sailing with so many talented sailors just all having fun, a great community of people across Australia. Stretchy/Dave we might have to do Lake George I hear it's a place for NM??

Well done Boz on the win, would kill for a spot like Albany here. Do I get an award for fastest naughty with a jibe in it, The Gorge isn't wide enough to get a full nm in without going way downwind.

Congratulations Boz! Big effort in watching the forecast and driving all the way to Albany at the right time. It was a great tactical move, and a good thing you stayed overnight (aside from the 4+ hour drive each way). The nm PB you scored on the first day would not have been enough to win. It took the second day's effort to do it. A well earned win.

Thanks Anita, first day wasn't possible tide too low made the run short and weedy, plus the main panel on the 6.3 was blown out which made it more like a 5.7 sail. Quick visit to Albany Bunnings for some tape the next morning patched the sail for the second session, bring on the easterlies this summer down there it will be epic.

Time to get ready this months sailing with so many things happening not forgetting the Screemin Leeman (I'll try not to break anything this time)
