Hope to see you all at the event.

as well as the GPS champ and Formula One, the radar racers class has been confirmed for the sunday. the local police will be at the event with radar gun at the ready between 12 noon and 3pm. all competitors entering who don't own a gps can join in to see how fast they are and have their speed clocked by the local police. all you need is some form of mark on your sail.

Caloundra wind and surf also have some KA and NXS gear on offer for demo and will be bringing along the laptop for instant uploading of tracks at the end of each day. emailing of tracks to myself is also more than ok.

A pit stop at a local pub is on the agenda too for everyone to get together and see how the results are tallying.

p.s. don't forget the bbq's

happy sailing
Justin B.

hi Sonic,

we've definately got our eyes on the forecast and hear what you're saying.

Tomorrow is definatley going ahead, as they say the show must go on. there will hopefully be enough wind to get some intial times on the board. the scoring system is based on an average of all days of the comp sailed to even things out and give everyone a chance to bring home a prize. this method is the anti vando method. no matter how many days are sailed we will still have one discard. there will also be a wind limit so if no one gets mobile that day won't count. We will review sunday and let everyone know what the plan is. at this stage sunday is not looking good. but we still have next weekend too.

I agree that we need some wind for the event to be successful. unfortunatley the windy time of the season hasn't been windy.

So tomorrow is definately on and definately watch this space.

hi guys,

well we all gave it a red hot attmept today but the wind was not co-operating so by 1pm we decided to postpone the comp due to lack of suitable winds.

We will be watching the forecasts over the next few weeks. when we get a weekend with enough wind to allow for some serious speed attempts we will send out a post informing everyone of a green light. the wait shouldn't be too long.

best regards
Justin B.

Hey justin, I assume this means tomorrow is off as well then? I was planning to go up then but from the looks of things it wouldnt be worthwhile. Pitty about today.

hi hobie14t,

yep mate, means tomorrow too. it shouldn't be too long till i blows again. we'll se what the next few weeks brings us.

we did have a good turn out today. everyone was into it even though most didn't get on the water. we even had channel 9 come along, they've agreed to come back when the winds blowing.

At the end of the day to be fair to everyone it was better to postpone rather than waste everyones time. A serious event like this with over $2000 worth of prizes from the sponsors needs the right winds.

Guys,

I don't know what all the fuss about no wind at Golden Beach was - my young fella (11yo) posted a solid 5 x 10sec avg of 5.3knts on a Starboard Go 170 and a 2.5m Cruiser sail!!!! Any chance of a me holding the 6.6 Koncept in trust for him until he is 18 (tipping it will be a little blown out by then though). Vando was there and he saw him carvin' up.

Regards to all,
CD.

some of us planed no worries in the morning. and the light ones planed all day.

although when i saw pierres 26cm fin i figured there must have been some smaller gear hidden away somewhere.

hi chris,

there is a line up for the Koncept. but i am sure i can accept bribes. pete had a 5.0m koncept there for demoing too!!! would of loved to had enough wind to get that going. wouldn't it be irony if someone on one of the demo koncept sails got the fastest time and then won the 6.6 koncept.

I'll do my best

but all that wind is going to waste as its out at green, not on the coast due to the amount of rain we are getting.

hopefully it clears 2mora and we get some at the beach and then I might make it out to green on Wednesday for a sail.

It seems there may be good news towards the end of the week as the first of the east coast lows for the season starts to make it's way southwards. at this stage there is a chance it may even turn into a cyclone. and even more fortunate we could get 2 or 3 as there are also more lows following behind.

the low currently being watched is situated in the coral sea. it popped onto the radar about 7 days ago. I am told the computer predictions have it moving closer to the Qld coast and intensifing as the week progresses. also helping it along are the high sea temps. higher than 26.5 deg. but it is moving very slowly so we will have to wait and see.

currently there is a large amount of chatter online suggesting that all the pieces are falling into place. there is also a suggestion that the BOM will start cyclone information bulletins soon.

so at this stage we have a yellow light for the speed event. towards the end of the week once things are more clear we will have a better idea to what is happeing. but at this stage the predictions are for 20 knots on sat and 20-25 on sunday.

lets hope this is the real deal.

as we have lost the first weekend to the 2 weekend format the intention is to change the scoring system to the 5 best 10 sec runs. so competitors can use either or both days to clock their fastest times.

hi troppo, do you get much sailing done in cyclone season? we are far enough away to get good winds but you guys must cop a flogging.

generally in cyclone season wind is from NE an not much over ten knots until late march when trades start. might get one or 2 days a month to sail.

if there is a cyclone the wind here depends on what the cyclone does.

its pretty hard to explain what its like until youve been here for one.

if it goes south of us and crosses the coast then the wind is going to be coming off the land..not good.. very gusty... i went to the beach straight after Larry smashed innisfail and it was like a mill pond in cairns.

they really need to sit out to sea for a few days north of us to be any good for sailing and to blow up a bit of swell.

the wind is really gusty on the coast because of the rain. Theres lots of **** in the ocean from the creeks flooding and if the cyclone looks like its going to hit then you cant go to green because the boats are all in port.

its only in the lead up that you can sail. it gets to strong

Tinaroo dam is sometimes a good option its inland an hour but i havent been there for one yet and prob wont bother.

i'm keeping an eye on that low out in the coral sea at the moment but looks like you guys might get all the benefit from it going south.

Show me the green arrows!!

These lows are interesting and we can get the tail end sometimes on the Gold Coast which usually compresses the two systems to generate wind and swell,Usually a high to the SE Bringing onshore winds pushed by the low above strenghtening it.(as you know one spinning clockwise the other anti clockwise) We got about three days out of one last year coming from the SE,We even got a picture in the local paper stating "not everyone hates cyclones" and a picture of the "touch up guy" zipping along grinning from ear to ear. As you said you need to be on the edges or it just rains hard.
I think by Thursdays updated forecast we will all know wether to dust off our small gear.
