Hardie, wasn't the comp originally supposed to be a winter storms comp?

How about we have an informal Speed comp/BBQ at Hardie's run at the begining of summer along the Dutch ESM lines. Just social/gps get together and that way the draw can be public.

If Thommen or you want it to be later for more exposure or because the comp is now to the end of the year then just make it later.

Surely one needs to validate their registration by posting at least one session. After all the prize was supposed to be for competitors (ie:competing) in the GPS Team Challenge.

The stoke of the original concept was to get people included, the sponsors then stood up and made fantastic and very generous offers which to the best of my memory was a genuine donation for the participation of everyone at some stage, by simply joining the comp, or as some of us are full on hardcore and some just enjoy challenging themselves, I think that the draw should encompace everyone on an even scale who signed up under the original terms.

Why change it? Are the sponsors threatening us with something? I dont think so, they must be stoked with the extra interest this awsome West OZ idea has brought to windsurfing. I know there is an international GPS challenge but this more Australian based comp is generating interest here.

I really enjoyed the why we are doing this and the mateship / getting fellow windsurfers together for a social bit of fun competition, that was the original idea, see how fast you can go, we will put it up and teams can have an excuse / motivation to sail even in the crappiest of winter times, the real racers can race and race hard, the feeble and average sailors can compete amongst themselves for freindly bragging rights and the guys n gals who want see if they can top 20 knots should not be left out.

The guys who developed and are currently maintaining the competition should really get the board, they are the ones devoting their time and rescources to everyone for nothing, other than thanks.

Lets keep the draw to the way it was originally said it would be drawn and worry about how we can all get some ideas together about ensuring the sponsors are very well noted, publisised, exposed to the world and more importantly thanked for their donation.

mkseven has a point, are we all individually numbered through the registration process? if so lets use that system.

Hardie I thankyou for sticking to your guns re the draw, dont be swayed, I doubt you will.

My wife works for the West Australian, I have asked her to see if she can get me a sports writers contact details, if that happens I will forward the details to Grumps and Hardie as they are in the know more than I on how to promote this to the paper.

Now, time for a beer

PS - If I have upset anyone re my ramblings I apologise, but you better start building that bridge

Cheers GT

A note from the sponsor!!
Just for the record there is no threats or anything, just a genuine concern that the comp is fair. The only concern I do have is that one of the shop owners wins it and just puts it on sale in their shop. That would not really be in the spirit of the idea. Also I think everybody should at least post a time. I know it's not what was said but why be in it if you don't sail. This is not a dress rehearsal. I would like to see a yearly get together say at Sandy point or in WA for a team showdown, extra to the main comp.

any other ideas put them up. We will draw out of the hat and make sure everybody is included. The date is yet to be fixed.

IMHO
This comp was about team participation so lets reward those teams that have contributed. I believe that at comp end the big prizes should be raffled to teams that have logged results as a team prize. There is still plenty of time for those teams that have not logged results to do so and be eligible.
I personally would be happy for the comp to end before 25, slowboat and the rest of the swan lake mob get to post again.

Thank you Hardie for organising such a great comp.
Thank you Ben for the fantastic web site.
Thanks to the sponsers for putting up the prizes.

Cheers,
Chris Reiffel

Bit of a,I duuno, maybe slant that isn't including the overall Australian majority I.E. NSW, and Queensland crew in the comments.
Need some input guys, we are onto page two forum and its reeaaal quiet
The board is over here,(WA) so they don't sound they are getting much of a mention in the Forums.
Maybe I am a cynical ol mungrel, and have read all the comments wrong. But you guys on the East Coast, and SA, "You are included" and your shops over there have supported us all with Monthly prizes (hint hint WA shops)

Just so we don't get nailed after a prize draw with a dispute,( The item has to be one of the TOP items ever offered for no outlay by participants other than nominate in a general fun water sport) Gybesports your support with this project has too be commended

lets just stick with what the original requirements set up was, and that is, you had too be registered by X date to qualify. I know this was put up many times, and it took me some effort to get my team mate in by the dead line.

And any chance me getting my mitts on it, probably NONE (haven't built enough Carma)

Fantastic idea, would give us a chance all to meet, draw the prize and the younger ones amongst us can party!
But don't see how it's possible, unless somebody also comes up with the airfares!!!
Then there's finding a time that suits most people, trouble with Auz it's just sooo BIG!!!!

Heres another point
It is my understanding that Hardie (definitely) and Nebbian (almost certain) as organizers of this wonderfull competion have removed themselves from the prize draw so that there is no conflict of interest.

Without the HUGE amount of work and not quite so much grief they have put in and recieved we wouldn't have any of this to talk about.

Sooooo, it is my opinion that if Mr Gybesports does the draw then they SHOULD be included

What do Ya reckon Speedsters??

Yay

Or

Nay

Maybe all the people posting times/speeds could pay a registration fee as well as a fee for each time/speed posted to the competition organisers... Then Hardie can have a new board and nebs can have a new sail + mast paid for from the revenue... It would be a big thanks for their time spent organising etc etc

Maybe this is ALL a bit silly It is MEANT to be FUN after all!!!

I completely agree with Mineral, keep it as it was: "enter by x date to be eligible".

Also, I completely agree with Elmo (sorry Hardie), in a random draw, all comers (by said rules) should be welcome, including Hardie and nebs... That's a big YAY!

BTW, I don't think anyone would (or could) think that Hardie (and nebs) has done what he has done, simply to receive some free kit!!! Geez, for hours spent, surely it'd just be easier to part with the $$

Thanks for your support guys

Yep Hardie and I discussed this, and we both decided to remove ourselves from the running of the draw, just to remove the conflict of interest aspect. I still stand by that.

I did the site for a couple of reasons:
1) To give my company some exposure and hopefully get a bit of cashflow
2) Because I knew I could do a half-decent job of it, and wanted the competition to be run properly.

Regarding 1) -- Because of the site I've gotten a big contract in Brisbane

Regarding 2) I haven't heard too many complaints yet

So in my eyes I don't need any prizes or anything. The stoke is enough

Ill chuck in my 2 cents worth.
I reckon if we dont stick to the original rules and conditions set out at the start of this thing then it wouldnt be fair.
Obviously Hard's and Nebbian have put a bloody lot of hard work into it so I think they should be included in the draw.
At the end of the comp get David to pull the winner out of a hat just like any normal draw. Simple, easy and fair.

The decision....... is to select a name from a hat on the 30th of November, as per the original conditions of registration.

As a recognition of competition the Gaastra vapour will go to most improved, read thread.
