You boys from Brisvagas and Golden Beach should have come up, it was a great day. Near perfect tide and wind, speed course was a little ripply but sailable for 5hrs and I got 4 PB's. Pretty good for a porkchop. ![]()
Vando, I reckon there was 20 knots gusting to 25.![]()
5 hours Trev! You must have sailed a for a long time after I left!
I had a better time on the outside earlier in the day, I found I couldn't run deep enough off the wind to stick with you fast guys. It really was a beautiful day, I hope I didn't throw you Brissy guys off with a dud forecast on Sunday morning ![]()
Before yesterday I really didn't get the attraction to speed sailing, now that I've had a taste of balls-in-your-throat, sphincter-puckering, sailing-on-the-edge-of-disaster, I can see what you guys get out of it. But you won't catch me strapping on a GPS any time soon. I must need to get some advice from uncle chop-chop ![]()
As "Knot Boy" said about 20-25. Yes, after "KB" went in I kept sailing until the sun disapeared and it just got better as the afternoon went on, the water got flater and the wind was more consistient. If I wasn't so far out on the speed course (7klm) from shore I just would have keep sailing as I was on my second wind. But the other guy went in. Sailed 196klm and with another 30 klm it would have put me 2nd on the individual "Distance" ranking. Damm the sun!! Bit tight in the arms today!!
Bugger...sounded good, better than the crap wind we had here at GB.
Its looking like next weekend is going to be 20SE again. What time is low tide, I assume thats the best for speed runs in a SE'r. On BOM which tide time marker do you guys use?
cheers

Link here of Urangan is close enough for the tides as Knot Boy said and as long as the wind is around the low tide it is generally good. Best around the Full & New Moons as it puts the lows in the mid afternoon, generally more wind late. Bigger the out tide the flater the water, hence FAST>>>

Link here is what I have found is the best for the wind we get at Burrum, don't look at Double Is Point it is always about 8-10 knots over what we actually get but I still use it to see if any thing is coming. Love to see you fast guys from Brisy & GB up here to show us country boys how you do it in the big smoke.![]()
Thanks pork chop, great info
Should we bother coming up this weekend or is a morning low tide unsuitable?
Well, tides aren't good and to get a sail in flat you would have to sail before 10am. Don't know about you guys but I sleep at that time and my travel is only 20mins. Love to have you all up here for a fortnightly pilgrimage but this weekend is the off weekend. Unless you want to sail in chop or go off shore in the great waves. I'm a bit bored with the waves so might give it a miss!!
I will be there for high tide both afternoons, in the chop....
I really enjoyed it last weekend, it doesn't matter if your jibes are terrible when the runs are 3 kilometers long in either direction!
Sorry "Knot Board" I've been calling you "Knot Boy". Think "Knot Boy" sounds better off the tongue. Might just call you "KB" sort of like an each way bet hey. If the wind's up I might see you there after lunch. Got a spare GPS if you want to strap it on and I have some other fast boards if you want to try them. More fun going fast!!
Rule of thumb for Burrum Heads tides = 1 hr before Brisbane tides.
The week-end 24,25 Nov best for a sail if the wind is in. 2-3pm lows
I will be home alone if anyone wants to stay o|nite (females preferred)
beware the full moon!
Locals are working on a prize for the first to crack 45 knots.
Local Grand Master has clocked 39.5knots
Now is the time to book for Easter.
By the way Burrum has speed runs for all wind directions.
Hooray for now.
Mr Slow Boat said a Sandy Point during Speed Week (Thanks Al) that as soon as we get 40knots (not 45knots) that he would be there. Must have been a slip of the finger Hooray, 45 is pretty hard to do when you're not on a Jet Ski especially for us mere mortals up here on country QLD.
It was Geoff but I don't think it was able to be down loaded to Real Speed to check for any spikes. Pierre I think you are the man to do it as I think you are on the top of the pile up here in QLD. So the pressure is on you!!! Us mere mortals will just try to follow in your wake but be warned we're all real keen to go fast up here and we think this is the place to do it. You got a good run at 37.5kn one day but you were still in the rough water and no where near the speed course. The potential is huge up here in a good South Easter with a big out. Let's all keep in contact for the perfect weekend and we'll just help you do it (and others of course).
I think everyone has the potential to hit it big up there you just have to be set up right and have the right conditions , we shall see when the day comes.
Need to have the runs on the board first and the people with the most runs on the board, at present, are you and Vando from Brisvagas and of course our very own super hero, the fastest Grand Master in the world, yes you all guessed it Al Green. You mentioned that when the day is right you will be at Burrum, well I think you should plan to stay over night as there will always be places to stay up here and then the whole weekend can be used. Even if the wind is still in I think Monday is always a possibility as work is over rated.
Al is not the fastest Grand Master in the world, he is the fastest Senior Grand Master in the world (sorry Al ).
Pierre, you still have a couple of cans in my fridge which you should drink before your speed run at Burrum as they will calm you down whilst doing 40k.
Trev, nice work on your distance last weekend (196klms) If you were to spend a day at it you could easily break 311klms at Burrum as you appear to be at your peak condition with all the sailing you have been doing lately.
I will be sailing at Manly this weekend before heading up to Burrum during the week to prepare for the invasion next weekend. Who knows with the cyclone up north even Firebob might get blown down to Burrum Heads.
Heading up to Burrum tomorrow. If the winds are on the tides are perfect.
Anyone going to Burrum, leave a message on 41295639 with your contact number and ETA. Not too many computers at the fishing village.
See you there.
Hi all , ring me at Burrum and I will give you the local forcast.
Its an amazing place and the wind is mostly stronger than any sites.
This week-end is the GPS for Windsurfing Qld calendar.
Looks like winds are improving so dont be lazy its an easy drive.
Records would have fallen...
But I was all alone ![]()
The speed run on the Northern Head was most defiantly ON, Low tide Sunday afternoon.
Broad reaches behind a mile lond long sand bar in 20+ knots and not a GPS in sight![]()
I don't know how quick it was but I was overtaking the 4x4's on the beach ![]()
20kts all day. King tide 0830hrs bump& jump.
Low tide1500 Flat water speed.
Look out for Julien, a young French sailor with pleanty of talent & his girlfriend Hanna. They will be staying at Burrum for the next week.
Would love tyo comeup but it my partner is worried about the caoson the roads for Christmas EVE, she may be right!
I'm at Woodgate the first weekend in the New Year so will sail at Burrum if the winds there, how about one of your famous forecasts Gesty
