Yeah, well I used to be able to. I recall planing continuously for over an hour at various times.
That's the point of that idea, to see who can plane through all their gybes.
I'm not sure if the GPS units would be able to assess that, but my thought was to set a minimum speed cut-off of 12-15kts to monitor it. Of course, you would not really need a GPS to do that, just a witness, but the GPS would provide hard evidence.
Twas just an idea.
Conditions would play a big part, of course, but that is true of all these disciplines.
Of course, a massive downwinder might also provide a good strategy, which would only be fair too.
Both ideas are about getting people on the water, and honing technique.

As a not quite yet GPS sailor, but getting closer, I like the idea of distance based comps. Need to see what kind of speed figures I can come up with, but I'm not sure they wil be too impressive, but dsitance is something I could be better at.
Maybe another one would be greatest distance sailed while continuously on the plane ??
Not sure how that would fly, but in my glory days, I could plane for a long time, and I'm sure there are other people who can too. It's a way of assessing gybing as a skill aspect of sailing.

id say who eva wants to sail the furthest out to sea would win that . unless some one can continualy do full on planeing jybes all day

The carton of beer should be for poor Nebs who has to do all the work when we come up with these ideas.

I'll drink to that!
