The original question was about centreboards. The hijack was started in the third post by a foiler who slung **** at centreboards. Raceboard and LT sailors then responded by specifically saying thAt foilers were great but that boards with centreboards were also good.
it only fell apart when people like you - who feel the need to abuse other people's kit - got involved. Just go back and read the first page. No longboard sailor insulted anyone's gear. Most of them clearly praised foils. Guys like Sailquik - who probably has spent more time going fast than anyone else here - also gave balanced views.

If you find plodding around on an LT entertaining then power to you. Just don't pretend it's a performance or even affordable option (my Equipe was free).
The internet is a strange, strange place. I'm sure in other contexts in your life you can cope with people having preferences that differ from your own, without denigrating their choice.
I have a short board, an LT, and a dinghy (a laser, also a 'slow' and 'antiquated' boat that gives me what a want from it: fun, close racing). It's all good. If windy, short board is the go to. If not, maybe the LT. Maybe I'll surf. It's ALL GOOD.
Why this is so hard is beyond me. Some of you just seem threatened by the current numbers of LT's. Relax, your short board/foil/floatie is still awesome!

maybe if you're a flag officer, or going to be training kids, but just to join up? I doubt it. something must've occurred at your club to prompt it.
kids are generally one (important) part of a club, but the club doesn't exist purely for them, or because of them. usually they operate junior programs at different times to the scheduled race times.
The more hoops a club places in front of prospective members to jump through just to join up and pay fees/race, the less likely it will be they'll get new members/survive.

I dunno what the go is over in Victoria, but here in WA they don't just do WWC checks willy nilly. You have to actually be in the situation where you will actually be working with children. Not just in the situation where you might be at the same location, at the same time.
So im interested to know how your yacht club puts it to the WWC government people that a member who will in reality have nothing whatsoever to do with children needs one? But maybe im wrong and its different in Victoria....

Bit off topic but are we serious! A working with children card just to race at a club!
What a great way to put off prospective sailors. Tas recently had their LT states. Infrequent sailors are seriously put off by all the existing memberships and insurance required and some don't even use Facebook etc to be able to enter. Without the help and encouragement from others they wouldn't bother. These initiatives are always well intentioned but people forget when you add them all together they are often onerous.
How about we just use that age old thing called common sense and tell any dodgy types they aren't welcome.
I've lost track of all the online annual subscriptions I need to maintain for my families sailing, windsurfing, working with children, soccer, nippers, swimming, 2 x epirbs etc etc.
2 experienced kayakers here recently found themself on front page news because they went for a downwind paddle on the Derwent in 40knots. Dopes on social media went into a frenzy about their interpretation of safety. Next we will have to register with authorities to go for a 5km windsurf.

Regarding WWC checks, I work in secondary education. Trust me, passing a WWC check doesn't keep all the "weirdos" out. Once again, trusting an authority body to keep us all nice and safe is about the most naive thing you could do regarding children.
Lets not forget that at the end of the day we are all winsurfers and all have a common interest in keeping or sport/hobby alive in all its glorious forms, united not divided.
