I sent for a horue version last season but have been too busy to use it much.
Few times I had a go it went straight up on foil
Looking forward to spring

What size board is that setup on?
I'm told that about 120L would be the minimum required.

why 120 litres? you see kite boards get up on a foil. As long as it floats you with no wind what would be the problem with a foil?

It was more an issue of width i think. Enough width to apply leverage against the foil was the general statement. I didn't get into the technicalities, I was just chatting with the guys at Zu Boardsports.
I've got a 107 Isonic with deep tuttle that i wouldn't mind trying, as i can just uphaul if that would do the trick (hence the question above).

leverage against the foil? better mount it sideways then

If it is a good board i would not use it long term with a foil, the box will give way, due to the force of the foil.
That is why all manufactures are selling big boards this season with " Foil Ready" boxes, i.e extra reinforced.
Stick on foil plates like "The Zu" sell maybe a different story.

Russ, you will have plenty of foiling company. There are 12 so far that will be above the water down south here.

Awesome, Tasmanian Naish Hover one design racing? Max 6m sails with no more than 5 battens

I could really see the advantage of the 120L convertible board that does everything. I've given thought to a SUP for those endless boring glassy days that have prevailed for months... but,...

In pic #1 the mast tracks are at relatively similar locations on all three boards (relative to the tail).

In pic#2 the foil slots are quite disimilar ( on the RH board) and make it hard to understand how that could be "optimal" for windfoil on the convertible.

As an interested amateur, it looks like two sets of foil tracks would be required to maintain the balance/leverage? Has anyone given the convertible a try?

Hi Mort
Its 127 litres and almost balances on the fin on its own
Almost magic
Ive only used it a bit but its wide at the tail and got up on the foil first go.
Deep tuttle though and seems fairly strong.
Lot of leverage though.
Tried the 110 and that worked too although the wider one felt better.
Damo is probably right don't know how long it will last.
Got a lot to learn

With the NAISH GEAR.
No one locally has tried the Convertible. Must remember there are none available in Australia yet .
The Video shows it well though. The convertible has been very popular according to Naish Australia.
First delivery is in 3 weeks and they have sold out around the country. Second delivery is in October and is nearly sold out, so if anyone is thinking.....
Fanatic/North, Neil Pryde and JP, Slingshot and Starboard all have options as well.

Not windsurfing specific but nicely made and a reasonable price, maybe a windsurf one in the pipeline.

Yes there is a windsurf one from North this season and it is similar price. It is the one that is shown on the gecko 133 on the fanatic website.
A few of the Tassie guys are getting one.

Thats right Alan, and all the larger Fanatic Slalom boards have reinforced foil ready boxes in 2018.

Balsy...looks like a double machete under the board. Could be very nasty if you chucked it

Damo, anything can be fixed with a roll of gaffer tape, a leatherman and a 6 pack.

Is this whole foiling thing going to work in reverse, when you buy new gear the wind stops. So, if you buy new foiling gear does that mean the wind will crank that hard that you can't use it. Damo ,can you please issue only one new foiling kit every Friday for as many weeks as it takes to fill all of your orders. It should work out to be the best summer on record that way ??

The naish hover is a bit trickier than robbie makes it look in his video. I've had 3 seconds of amazing silence before coming back to earth with a big splash. As Alan says "a lot to learn".

Went out at Sandy bay for 3 hrs in 12 -16k and had a blast ...it's awesome fun.
Used the 127 slalom board and a 6.2m wave sail and felt right in that pressure.
Got a horue foil .....cruising stronger wind front wing version.
Very much a beginner but it was just clear of the water almost the whole time
Towards the end starting to work out how to raise it up a bit.
Long long way to go but felt great doing something new
