87 degrees? So it has built-in rake?

Its a starboard C300 ( new branding of the current "standard" mast) there will also be the C400 (new branding of the current IQ foil mast, and a C600 (brand new Uber stiff mast, which I've only heard described as "ultra expensive")

so the new branding is representing the carbon content. Have also heard there will be some slight mods to the mounting of the front wing to fuse, so "better built" but if you've got the current gear and want a new front wing, or fuse then you're up for the other as well

Yep, pretty sure I heard there will be built in rake too, hence the 87 degrees

I'm sorry I don't understand your last sentence. Are you saying that the old and new components will be incompatible ? Like the new front wings won't go onto the current 95+/115+ fuselages ?

Mast rake is not new. If you mount a bunch of foils to boards and measure them with some king of right-angle tool (like a drywall tool) you will see that most of them are a degree or two off 90 degree normal. My old AFS-2 has a full ten degrees of forward rake.

That said, targeting 90 degrees makes the engineering design and manufacturing relatively simple.

This new carbon stuff from SB will be very interesting to watch.

Yes unfortunately. Old won't fit new. The mast to fuselage join, and stabiliser to fuselage join remain the same, but the front end is being altered.

so a new main wing won't fit an old fuse, and vise versa.

The current masts are 87 degrees. No change.

My understanding is that SB is reducing drag with the new way to fasten the front wing to the fuselage. I wonder if they will stagger the four bolts to increase stiffness as wellthe good news is that IQFoil will remain the same so at least the 900 and 800 wings, the 115+ and 95+ fuselages, and the iQFoil masts (alu and carbon) will be around for a while

yes new (called Evolution) won't fit old, the fuselage nose is reshaped to reduce drag.
there is a very high end & very high modulus mast coming out !
and there is another angle available for the masts on top of 87?

Is that forward rake or back?

3 degree back from vertical
If it was at 90 degrees then the front wing would move further forward ;)

On my specific board (Hypernut) I need the opposite because of the tail rocker. I've managed to get it with a shim.

Just a tiny sneak peek of the new fuse...
But enough to see that this is not compatible with the "old" front wing.

What I see:
Fuses got rid of the front lip so the leading edge looks lower profile/sharper. Going by the marks on the wings it also gets narrower at the front
4 screw system still, yet...
Front wings have a chamfered notch at the back. Looks like the new fuses have a matching feature to keep the older wings off the new fuses, likely because the fuses have less material than the old design. But, that feature doesn't seem like it would keep new wings from being used on old fuses...

Edit:
Front two screws don't have an even spacing, so the 4 holes won't line up with older fuses

I'd like the mast to fueslage design to be standardised so all brands can at least swap wings without masts and vice-versa... anyone know how to get hold of Larry Tuttle?

If like me, you've no chance of getting through the pearly gates, probably easier to cut a deal with the devil. (Thats presuming you've still got a soul to sell).

So Starboard added a 4th fuselage to it's lineup, with front wings not compatible to older front wings. That's fantastic ... for anyone with an addiction to buying new stuff every year, and perhaps for Starboard's revenue. Really makes me wish the Armstrong windsurf fuse was available locally.

PWA racers gonna PWA

New fuses are gonna be less draggy from the looks of it. IQFoil gear will still be the same

Doesn't look like it.

So far my IQFoil gear has been fine without a lip. The slingshot tuttle attachment with a lip, however, has definitely rubbed/eaten/cavitated away the bottom surface of my Blast right along where it meets up. I honestly don't know what that lip is gonna do for a properly toleranced tuttle head connection.

The lip definitely helps to easily set the mast at the proper angle when the mast head does not touch the top of the box.

Since the new starboard foilboards are designed for the mast head to touch the top of the boxes (at least for the race boards), there is no need for the lip. But when you use a board where the mast head does not contact the top of the box, it can be a pain to sit the mast at the right angle.

In all fairness, it's the first modification to the starboard set up since it came out 4/5 years ago !
Other brands did the same over much shorter periods, I think it's just that the product came to the end of it's possibility speedwise, time to move on to stay competitive.

Everybody is looking for "latest and greatest".
So why do we think the OLD parts still have to work on the NEW stuff?
Embrace the new.
