Just thinking here, in light wind (8-9 knots) I pump the AFS W95 foil with F1080 wing, using a Goya Bolt 135 with cutouts, initially I have my foot in front of the front foot strap to keep the board level, but once the foil starts lifting I move back and take off. Now in the transition from "on the water foil pumping" to "taking off", I wonder if the cutouts help to channel the water backwards giving forward motion, versus a board with no cutouts that would push the water maybe more to the side when pumping the foil with board on the water.Just throwing that out there!
