Windsurfing has finally progressed, THE FUTURE OF WINDSURFING IS NOW HERE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well done guys, good to see you guys trying new things and not just getting bogged down in the same old same old. This new enthusiasm and progression might get the younger guys interested again and bring back the fast decreasing numbers in polers,,,,, maybe??
Or will it be like adding bluetooth to a commodore 64?? Time will tell. Good luck.
Really interesting Q & A here with Sebastian
apologies if if its been posted before
Where can I get one of the new boards? JP or NP in the video and how much? or would I be better off getting a local custom board?
Formula test failed, box was too far back to far in the board. Slalom didn't work real well, knee deep sinker. Any suggestions?
After I had this season always too much or too little wind for foiling, I had now several days good wind for foiling, 8 - 13 knots, while my trip to Sardinia.
My setup is a Boardschmiede Custom Windsup and a foil from thewindfoil.com, an aluminum mast + fuselage and glasfiber-wings.
Meanwhile, I can do long runs on the foil, but still with the occasional wipeout.
The exhausting rides morphed into fun rides with both feet in the straps and hooked in the harness.
Important tips: mast foot to the front to control the rising nose, counter gusts more with pressure on the frontfoot than the backfoot, moving the boom higher or shorter harness lines to stand more upright to avoid to push the foil laterally.
I can’t make my jibes so far, but I have now analyzed my errors in foiljibe videos: I have the rear foot too far on the rail, so I cant the board too much and fall to the inside.
After all, I don’t need my 8.2 sail anymore, in light winds the 6.9 sail is enough (for 90kg), with more than 14 knots it goes with the Goya 116 or the Windsup without foil but fin.

First go at foiling today- Patrik 128 hull with a KFA foil ( flat front wing). Huge fun. Gotta do that again. Thanks to Marvin from KFA for trusting me with a foil for the day. Fantastic to see an Aus company involved. This will revolutionise light wind sailing I think.
Trimmed the carbon from the other night today, easy enough to do with a good Stanley knife. Put down the carbon tape on the other side and had a go at fibreglassing the base.
Off to Bunnings now to get some rougher sandpaper...

The thing with kids these days is that they only know the easy way out !
God help the future race
While it is important to have a nice location where water gets deep quick.
You can come back in on foil to Shallow water but you have to lay down to windward into water rather than the dignified way of stepping off.
But the foils carve so well that this can get even more undignified when you backwind yourself.
Anyway I can see carving 360's from the talented guys in not to near future.

Why do the masts have to be so long?
Firstly it takes a while to get a smooth steady altitude so a longer mast gives more room to manoeuvre in the airspace.
Then there is chop and the need to stay above it.
Then when you are trying to crank upwind with some board lean to windward, the longer mast keeps your rail above water.
some people are saying there is a great deal of stress on the fin box
IF one was to use a standard windsurf board rather than one built for foiling
any comments on that ??
when can one just use a 120 litre 70-80 cm wide board ??
90% of the stress is upwards. So you have to make sure it is a tight fit with no room for the foil head to move.
Like he said in the video : 120/130 Liters and around 80 wide you'll be fine, especially to begin. I use a 77 w 110 board and it works; Just a pain to uphaul with my lightweight....(92 kg)
I've figured out waterstarting so it's all good now.

and THAT is why you designed / made that block discussed earlier :-)
@ 105 kilos , I would go with my 120/80 board ...
just need to save and decide - which foil ??
How much do you want to spend?
Regarding pricepoint the windfoil.com is a good offer.
I use it and am happy with it.

I had a bit of a marathon session of foil building this afternoon. Couple of hours fairing the tapes in (including a trip to Bunnings), then a quick pause for fried rice and then starting on the fibreglassing of the main parts.
Really enjoying this project so far, I reccomend it!
Greetings from Denmark.I have been windfoiling for about an year.Started up with a 80 cm wide, 130 l board (Hyper X 130) and nocam sail.In Denmark we are only 3 persons windfoiling + Sebastian Kornum, who is a pro windsurfer. No one to ask, so had to look at youtube and try for ourselves.
After a lot of training, we are now windfoiling a lot better.I am using af 89 cm and 148 l board (Speedster 89) and a Horue foil. And a Np Rs Slalom 7,8 as my favorite.I find a bigger and wider board much easier to handle, and controll. Now using both footstraps and my harness. The small movie I post, is about 6 month old, showing how it looks in choppy and cold conditions in Denmark.Love foiling
does the Horue come with a deep tuttle so as NOT to require filling the fin box ??
and did you make the plate on top or it came with the fin ??
in foiling what happens if you put a bigger sail - heard it does NOT make it faster ...
am REALLY enjoying these foiling videos
looks like it is here to stay !!
am surprised AHD does not have more presence
they've been at it for years
Joe if you measure a deep tuttle you will see that they don't "fill" the box in the board.
Deep boxes are empty from deck to bottom. So whatever tuttle you use (normal/med/deep) you'll still have an empty space at the top.
Windfoil.com now come with an insert to fix a "plate" to prevent it from going up. I still put the wooden spacer in though (re assuring)
I remember reading Horue had a similar fitting:
@Joe Windsurf: Horue does come with af deep tuttle, but you still have to fill the gab in the box.The plate is something I have made. The foils gives a lot of lift opwards, and you have to make sure your board can handle it.My board could not, and this is the reason for my plate.Bigger sails means earlier foiling (Lift) and better foiling when lulls. When you are "in the air" I find it much more easy when you have a sail with stabil profile. Trust me, it is not easy at all
So can you put a foil on a newer generation freeride and bump n jump board now? I see there are all kinds of adapters made for power box setup. Do you not have to buy a specific foilboard anymore for this to work? Just the foil and adapters?
I see there are all kinds of adapters made for power box setup.
where exactly ?
The pryde ones are deep tuttle
Look on windance Boardshop's site. They have an adapter that screws into the powerbox, then the wind foil mast screws into that and your set to go. Looks like a pretty clean setup. A little expensive though. I believe it is around $2000.
Interesting, top Kitefoil & foil brand:

as far as that power plate goes ...
the screws/bolts on the bottom of board will be short
so as NOT to go into board
the portion holding the foil to the board is still one screw from the top
this year i hit a rock full on with a power box
which left the fin in the water and the board with the screw and round brass insert
the foil is bigger, heavier , etc
with a fin in the power box, what happens if you hit a rock or bottom out ??
something will break ...
there are now so many options out there ....
once again
is there one place that lists and compares them all ??
from AHD, NP, JP, Horue all the way to foils that people put in current deep tuttle boards ...
pros, cons, costs, etc are all of interest
feels like there is still TMI and not enough consolidation
if someone is interested, it feels like a tough beginning with expensive errors if not careful ...
