Not sure the Perth boys have the equipment for the waves we have had recently. There's been a bunch of days like this. Shame it's big and fat...

Yep 6'3 boards just don't cut it. The 7'6 and 9'6 has definitely had the summer cobwebs blown off them.

Ahhh you guys are obviously part of the geriatric convention at margs main and yalls main

Nah. They are older than me.

And don't really talk to me.

Like that stonking left in the pic? Zoom in. There's a bloke paddling into it. You'll need a bit of foam for that, don't you reckon?

To me it looks like there's a bloke on the shoulder going over the falls coz it's as shifty as hell and he's out of position

That comment has had me laughing. Either you are having a laugh too or you really have no idea what you are looking at in that pic. I haven't been able to tell - the net doesn't do tone real well.

But then, given your comments a few weeks back about in between swells being too big for lefties and Big Rock being big and fat, well...

That pic above...a mate surfed Lefties that day too...wonder what makes it too big for lefties...

Like I said shifty, big fat burgers

ps you guys are hilarious, so easy to stir up, take yourselves and surfing far too seriously

Well if we are going to have a pissing competition...........in the 70's in the SW my setup up was a 7.0, 80's onwards with thrusters 6'6" was my gun guys with telent went way smaller it was and still is a matter of timing only issue was if the offshore was howling.

Always felt more comfortable on a 6'4" even when getting pitched at NP

Still if I did it all again would likely have a 7'6" / 8'6"

Off crook for a couple of days so doing a bit of browsing through the forums. Happened to glance at this topic a few months ago but didn't have the time to go through the whole lot. Ha! Now that I have I can see Greenroom would be such a joy to surf with. Out there glaring at everyone who he doesn't recognise as a local and being a SUP degenerate he'd go out of his way to snake anything that'd come through. I see that at my region. Not even sure why you had to start this topic in such a tone. You could've gone about it in a much more conciliatory way. Whatever you said was never going to change anyone's behaviour. Wonder what your attitude is like if/when you surf somewhere else?

www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-08-18/china-announces-anti-dumping-probe-on-australian-wine-imports

Maybe a few locals relocating back to the big smoke if this continuation of the China tanty plays out. Would be a shame, I was over there many years ago and it is a beautiful spot with some great waves, wines and wineries. Spent more than a few arvo's sipping red and listening to tunes at one or two wineries.

I lived and worked in (ahem) Bunbury for a while and couldn't quite get transferred to Margs as it was a stay till you die position. (Telecom)
So had to make do with driving down and back or staying at a friends place. Back on the Goldie now for some 20 years but I wonder where I'd be if I ever did get that transfer, probably still 10 years out from being called a Margs local.

Good luck to those of you that are lucky enough live there and call yourselves locals.

I lived in Margs for 6 years in the mid 90's, few years in "The Blue House" Tunbridge st, great location for the Wednesday "Soup Kitchen" just down the road & bands on Thurs nights at Settlers, so many good bands in the 90's. Before moving down the end of Railway Trc...There were always heaps of backpackers & people from overseas filling positions & now with this Covid BS. I think you will find there is more work than ever in the SW region.

And China!!! Fark'em We're actually exporting more resources to China but the MSM probably aren't telling you that. Dunno coz I don't watch TV, their BS makes me too angry...

The house is still blue, laden with fruit trees, and sells honey on the roadside from time to time. Those Thursday nights were always a big decider on whether you went to work on Friday, or Not.

I mainly worked about june to Oct, vine pruning & then training. Then in summer assisted Geof & his Indo wife with their market shop selling samosa's & operating the Margs Drive-In snack bar. Was cool coz I never had a tv through those years but got to watch all the latest movies playing...Michael's been making honey since before I met him in '92. We had a good thing going there with the fruit trees, honey, eggs from the free roaming hens. Plus food brought back from a chef & bakery assistant. Saved heaps of money to blow at the pub. Had an arty girlfriend who used to bring a bunch of coloured pens to draw that weeks stamp to get in to watch the band lol

Arty chick was Nat, she lived with her parents around Rivertrails retreat. Kinda early BnB, family moved into a big shed when someone booked their house. Very cool chick.

I think 1/2 of Margs back then lived in the rammed earth dwellings at some point or another back then

I don't remember Story Time, whats that?

I ended up doing a trip to Vic, stayed at Cactus for 6 weeks on the way. Worked for Apollo Bay Bakehouse from when it started for 2 years before coming back to WA due to a death in the family. Got married, lived in the Mid West for 8 years before settling not far from you. A good compromise for me. Although I do have to deal with traffic lights, which sux. I think you guys still only have one set unless the Margs st reno farks things up.

Yeah. Pretty good band aswell.
Still no lights, the bypass and new town thing put an end to that idea....looks like a dogs breakfast at the moment though.
Wouldn't be surprised if the bottom roundabout causes a few anger management issues either.

I don't remember them, were they a Margs band?

I remember the 10c Shooters...one of the members lived across the lane from us running behind Railway Trc. He sold guitar strings & made very nice accoustic guitars.

A friend & I used to Jam with a few people accousticly. We had a jam night down at the cafe/food joint over the road from settlers for a while. I think it was the Pumphouse cafe, had an ancient fuel bowser out the front like Gracetown, but the buildings gone now. But yeah got too popular/big & managment closed it down. They didn't mind a couple of accoustic guitars, but once it got too the point of 3 or 4 bongo drummers in the mix it was GG I like to blame them, not my singing lol

Standout bands I remember;

Beaverloop
Fireballs
Shihad ( but as Pacifier - changed name for awhile coz sounded too much like Jihad)
Rebeccas Empire
Tumbleweed
Cordrazine

But I'm a little embarrassed how little I remember in regards to bands, just remember a lot of great bands we heard on JJJ would do the Settlers Thurs before playing Perth. Reminds me of this convo a couple of young blokes were having in the surf last week. One guys was like telling a story of a big night out & his mate replys, YEAH I was there with you...LOL...I was that guy

A new (to me) scratch recording of Beaverloop from the 1996 Big Day Out (Perth Oval) arguably the Best West Oz BDO ever imo between 1992 & I think last one I went to was 2001 with the White Stripes playing a quiet little side stage at Claremont Showground which was awesome but 1996. Storming the fences for the Rage against the Machine during Killing in the Name of, Tism with their massive balloon costumes, the Radio Birdman playing first gig for about 20 years. If we could have just one big show like that every year it would be epic

Lineup (Epic)
Porno for Pyros
Rage Against the Machine
Elastica
The Prodigy
The Jesus Lizard
Tricky
Rancid
Billy Bragg
Reef
TISM
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Tumbleweed
Regurgitator
Spiderbait
Radio Birdman
Shihad
Dirty Three
Sidewinder
Magic Dirt
Ammonia
Custard
Even
Powderfinger
Pollyanna
DJ Sugar Ray
Single Gun Theory
Southend
Amunda
Continuum
FSOM
Groove Terminator
Manic Suede
eyespine
Pumpkinhead
Loves Ugly Children
beaverloop
Blowhard
